If you are standing on the boat I expect it will assume that you want to get into the boat.  If you stand on top of a car, it might assume you want to get into the car?  Thing is, when you are on the boat you are inside the COL boundary object for it, so the game might always think that it's the boat you want to get into since you are already sort of inside it.

 

How did the boat handle with this line, though?

It turned a little too easily and went as slow as mount chiliad.Thanks for the feedback. I will make it much faster than it would be in reality but it will still feel very slow compared to other GTASA vehicles.

 

I think the mass I have given it (60,000 kilograms) might not be enough; that's only 60 tonnes. Aircraft carriers are normally about 60,000 tonnes! In my new setting I will me the Mass and TurnMass ten times larger. I will halve the Drag and increase the acceleration by five times. Everything else in the standard data will be kept the same. I will shift the traction bias even more towards the rear.

I've only just remembered that this section is in the handling file! This means that a negative TractionMultiplier (column J) makes the boat lean toward the outside of the corner. The aircraft carrier should not lean when turning, so this should be zero. The TractionLoss (K) shall be halved. Column R in GTASA is the EngineType so I think it must mean column R in GTAVC, which is the BrakeForce column. This is column S in GTASA. Did you get all that?

 

Anyway, I will make it zero so that the boat should not rise and fall with the waves because boats use it as the Vertical Wave Hit Limit setting. I've made column T zero as well, which translates back to the ForwardWaveHitBrake. A boat this big bascially goes straight through any waves. I've kept the multipliers for water resistance and water damping the same.

This is the new handling line for the standard data section. Does the ship sit a good way down into the water or is it just sitting in the top? The submerged setting is now 20% instead of 10% but it might require a larger setting for the boat to look right. Screenshots of the boat taken from another boat would let me see if it is sitting in the water nicely. smile.gif

To stop the wave motion affecting the boat, I would have to edit the special boat data for the Tropic. I have never experimented much with it, so this will be a voyage into the unknown. I've included the original handling to the Tropic and a couple of other boats for comparison.

 

The first three settings are Thrust for all three axis. Next three are Aquaplane settings. There is a WaveAudioMultiplier value which I think I will increase to a large number since a ship this big would make a lot of wave noise. After that are the MoveResistance value for all three axis, follow by TurnResistance for all three axis. Finally, the SpecialCamHeight sets how far from the ground the left, right and behind camera views are placed at. This needs to be very high because the ship's deck is so far up.

This is the new handling line for the boat data section. All I have changed is the WaveAudioMultiplier and the SpecialCamHeight. If you are using NotePad, replace the line which begins with %Tropic.

 

If you are using CFG Studio then do not include the percentage character (%) when you copy the handling. Use View > Boat Data and find the Tropic line. Click on TROPIC in the first column to highlight that row. Go to Edit > Paste, or right-click and choose Paste or press CTRL+V to replace that line with the data you copied from here.

as i've said

it's a great mod and project... actually it's a great mod project

but I have a feeling it has too many poly's and it will lag the game with it's size/weight/performance

 

if i am mistaking plz tell me so but I ain't d/ling it anymore... sorry biggrin.gif

if it's any consolation, I haven't d/led the crossbow and laser sniper for the same reason, so you're not the only ones

2)how do i get out of the boat? i got in but when i press enter again to get out cj is in the air and he can't come out because of the walls

I changed the handling to those 2 lines, and my boat won't move anymore biggrin.gif It's just sitting there, floating, as if it were stuck between 2 walls.

I suck at making handling. I tried to make that last handling work (the one that was slow), and when I got in it and tried to move it the boat would go flying up in the air and the please wait thing would come up.

I thought that getting the GTASA patch would, like make the game better or something. Now it crashes all the time and there don't seem to be any trainers or spawners which work in it. I delete my patched install of the game which I've been using for modding and copied the original install I kept as a backup. The game crashes whenever I try to load a saved game. My internet connection crashed because of it, too. I had to unplug my modem from the power, then plug it back in and reconfigure it.

 

Even my original, completely unmodified install of GTASA doesn't load saved games now! Just when I was starting to hate GTASA a little less. dontgetit.gif

he cerbera i did your last handlin line then i opened gta ultimat editor and selected tropic the acceleration was only 0.1! so i made it 30 and then i spawned the tropic (air craft carrier) and when i accelerated, the boat started to turn around like a top in the water and then it propelled itself into the air the screen when from white to blue an i got a dialog box saying loading please wait then the game died . ps: i still can't get out of the boat

All boats have very low acceleration because acceleration works differently for boats. An acceleration setting of 1.0 is EXTREMELY large for a boat! Since this boat is so heavy, a value as large as 1.0 might be required but definitely not something as big as 30.

I reinstalled my GTASA and installed the carrier. I tried spawning it in many different places in the map; I even swam out to see and tried spawning it in a completely empty stretch of water. It crashes my game every time. I think the problem is my 64MB GeForce 3 graphics card simply isn't powerful enough to deal with such a complicated model. Good thing I always make multiple installs and never change anything in the original install, so I always have backups for everything. smile.gif

 

NikT added me to his MSN and we've spent today developing better handling setups for the standard data and special boat data sections. Making it faster without it getting silly is the biggest challenge at the moment. I will set the CollisionDamageMultiplier to zero (0) so that if you crash it into things because of the slow steering and braking, you won't blow up. We are also trying to reduce the rocking motion because a ship this big does not move much.

 

Someone should donate an awesome graphics card to me so I can work on this mod directly!

 

(EDIT) After a lot of testing we are making very slow progress.

All this will be possible when the vehicle is heavier... and that's a handling edit I'm going to try and get onto Cerbera about - I understand he's God in that area... unless someone else here wants to rise?  turn.gif

Glad to see you took my advise of contacting Cerbera. Hopefully the handling problem will be taken care of soon now. Can´t wait to get back from my Vacation to try the new test handlings myself biggrin.gif Well, gotta get back to the pool with girl and cocktails now tounge.gif

my laptop's sh*tty onboard 64mb card runs it without even lagging...i spawn it at the end of the san fiero airport runway(you have to be in water though,otherwise the ship spin's high up in the air)and i can walk around on it

without any troubles...

Nah, I doubt that's it. I run the game on a 32mb card, I believe it's a Nvidia GeForce Go 420 or something like that.

Lagging my ass, I have totally no problems with it on my computer. And min isn´t very high tech also. Maybe when you get the visual FX Quality down a bit it will get better. That way it wouldn´t load all the details biggrin.gif

hmm...with that new handling line the boat doesnt sway back and forth at all...nor does it move at all.I was able to land a hydra on it with no prob though.

Mut7... All I can suggest is that none of what you describe happens on my install, or any other I have heard of - at this stage the SAM launchers are not expected to be working, but we're still in the very early stages of development here.

 

Tonight I will be working some more on the handling - now that we have the beast sitting stably, and nice n heavy, I'm going to work on trying to get the speed up.
