[WIP|MOD] Easter Bay Aircraft Carrier Boat Convert

I have to do some stuff today, but still haven't finished the .col file, and I really don't want to leave you guys hanging, so I've released this beta for your sakes... there is still a lot of work to be done, and I'm steadily doing it, but this is just a prez. for the short term... enjoy.

looks good but i cant find where to get in the drivers seat :S all i can do is walk around.

 

oddly enough i had it working ingame before (without driving) and now when i try to spawn it the game crashes :s

Yeh, there will be a lot of rough edges in it still at this stage.. keep in mind this is really just a beta to try and get some help with the handling, and by no means a final release.

Definitely needs some new handling lines, and some more col work. Those are my only complaints. Until now, I hadnt thought of or seen a car mod worth creating or dling to install for SA. This thing just looks amazing, I didnt really have a problem with too many spawning, I just jetpacked out to sea and spawned one. I can't wait to show this thing off in one of my new SA movies.

Unfortunately it still cannot be landed on - mainly due to the weight of the carrier handling being so low... if anyone can help me fix this problem handling, I would be eternally grateful - please email me

nice ship...very nice indeed,dousnt lag my game at all,

one thing tho: i spawned it,got in,and started "driving" it,i went under the bridge,and when i got to the other side,the ship magicly lifted up,and then started spinning up in the air like crazy,when i tryed to get out,i got a message "loading,please wait" and my display colors went gaga...

 

any idea why this happened?

the spinning you refer to is due to the vehicles handling... anyone that can help fix it will be loved by everyone in this thread, I assume.

You can put cars on it with no problem, but you can't get in them. When you press the button to get in, CJ tries to get in the boat.

 

One suggection that would be awesome if you could work it out, be able to dock boats in the back.

I imagine that could be done by making the entrance to the back a ramp with only one very small exit opening. Then the carrier would drag the boats what are in it's docking bay.

But wouldn't that damage the boat in the back and result in it blowing up...probally taking the carrier with it suicidal.gif

 

Shame there isn't some sort of code to lock cars/boats/planes in place until you enter them sarcasm.gif

What might work is using some settings from the AT400. It is extremely heavy with a lot of TurnMass, so it would be pretty stable when other vehicles landed on it. That would give a reasonable base from which to refine the special boat data to stop it from moving around much with waves, make it steer slowly and so on.

 

I recommend CFG Studio for doing handling mods like this because you can move the Tropic line up next to the AT400 line and it will keep all the columns aligned correctly. It also makes it easier to edit the special data since it is on a seperate grid page with all the column headers in the right place.

These are the original lines so we can compare how the massive plane and a couple of the largest boats re set up. It also means we have an easy backup in case anything gets completely messed up.

 

GTASA uses a very simplified Physics engine, so it's impossible to make strong links between real effects and GTASA handling values. With the AT400 we see that a large mass requires an extremely large TurnMass to make it heavy to turn. This is common to all vehicles in the game, so our carrier handling must use this too. We can see that very large vehicles have a pretty high Drag setting, so our carrier will be the same.

 

Some boats have negative traction multipliers. I am not sure quite how this works but as these boats tend to be harder to steer than boats with conventional traction, it might be worth looking into later in development. For now, I think we should use 1.00 and 10 for testing. Most boats bias their traction towards the rear with only 45% of it at the front, so we shall do the same for now. Five gears and a very low acceleration seem common to the slowest boats, so we'll do that too.

 

Very low braking with an extreme rear bias (between 1% and 5% effect at the front) seems common to all boats. Steering of around 25 degrees seems common but I think less turning would suit a bigger boat, so I've set it to 20 degrees.

 

Most of the large boats have very soft suspension apart from the Rio, which has extremely stiff springs. I'm not sure about this effect, so the soft suspension might be the safest bet. The only relevant flags seem to be IS_BOAT and the option of SIT_IN_BOAT which is already set for the Tropic. Boats seem to use the standard character animation class.

 

That's my very preliminary idea. I don't want to install this because I am worried about destabilising my game from editing the IMG. In GTAVC this was extremely annoying because it meant I had to make a new install to make my GTAVC Handling Overhaul. I don't want the same thing to happen in GTASA, so I'll only install this mod if the game won't go loopy. smile.gif

With this line I was able to spawn mulitple cars, but I couldn't get in them cos CJ always went running to get in the boat...

I agree. On the other hand, I can get in cars spawned on the deck.
