Demarest
Isn't this GTA? Grand Theft Auto? Wouldn't you like your game to be mean? We're playing the role of criminal after all... Now I recognize that everybody's going to do what's cool with them and that's awesome. But honestly, am I the only one that thinks that the name "Claude" sounds a bit swishy for a guy? Maybe I'm just relating it too much to Maude, but still. For years, people called him Fido because we had nothing else to call him. Now that SA has shown that it is Claude Speed, many people call him Claude. How could you do that? It's bad enough that R* gave a main character of a game where you're supposed to cheat, steal, and murder an *ahem* "soft" name to begin with. Why should we perpetuate it? They left us in the dark for a few years, so him being called Fido would be justice. Or at least Mr. Speed, eh? That at least sounds dutiful. I know everybody's going to go on calling him what they do--I'm glad we have that freedom. Just wanted to see if I was the only one who thought it didn't fit. 51L3N7 4554551N
Your right, Claude is a bit of a 'posh' name. I would of thought that would call him something normal like 'Jack' or 'Robert' not Claude. -

The_Real_Deal
"Claude Speed" is pretty un-inspired. I never thought the name was soft, it's just French, but it's not his name. R* are a bunch of punks for trying to officialize it in SA. I say he doesn't have an official name, so call him whatever you've been calling him all along. I never called him anything, because he was just me. But I refer to him as Fido or GTAIII Guy.

D Jones
What did you expect his name to be? "Alfonso Kapone"? Or something similar, Claude Speed is just a random name, doesn't make a difference. But, I did call him Fido for a while. But then I seen that his name was "Claude" in San Andreas .
Superilldude
Nop, not the best name but I think it's actually better then Fido. Fido, the cell phone man
Pyrrhus
I still refer to him as either "Fido" or "The GTAIII Guy" despite his actual name being "Claude Speed".
Venture423
I was thinking the same thing, it doesn't suit him at all. I remember hearing everyone call him Claude Speed and I was wondering how they found out his name. I completed San Andreas, but I must have tuned out at the part where his name was mentioned

And you don't know if he can't talk or not. Anyway, I like his last name, Speed. i have nothing against Claude and nothing against Fido. I call him Claude though. And it is kind of clear that it is his name.
51L3N7 4554551N
How about Fido Speed. A mixture to keep everyone happy! (Or you could throw pies at me and tell me no-one wishes my tuppensworth ) -

Spuds725
I was thinking the same thing, it doesn't suit him at all. I remember hearing everyone call him Claude Speed and I was wondering how they found out his name. I completed San Andreas, but I must have tuned out at the part where his name was mentioned They never said "Speed" in SA-- but he was referred to as "Claude" by Catalina numerous times-- remember she kept calling CJ on the phone. Claude "Speed" is just assumed because of the name in an earlier GTA (not that I've played any of them).... I seem to remember that there is a a "Claude" folder or file on the GTA3 disk-- I heard this mentioned (I've never checked it myself). I like "Fido"-- yes its silly but its just a way to refer to him-- you know its not his real name-- so he is more of a mystery by not having a name. Demarest
Or we all just call him whatever we want and f*ck what everyone else thinks. And that means we can't discuss it? I thought this was a forum. Sorry it's a bit more pensive then asking what your favorite hideout is or whatever. And we're not talking clarity here. We're talking about styyyle. Like not changing the way we do things just because some multi-national suggested that we should. Or not changing the way we do things because it simply doesn't fit. Besides, this thread wasn't even supposed to be "what do you call him?". It was asking who else out there thinks it's soft, if not a bit... whatever. F-s-X
Demarest, i didn't mean it that way. of course you can discuss it but I don't see why people would have to convert people to their uhm ´Name calling´. I just think people should be so independent to decide for themself. But I see no reason for it not to be discussed. Anyway, Claude is quite soft. And I think R* was very clumsy in their try to shove the games togheder.
Xanarki
I've always called him Claude. I been with GTA since GTA2, and at the end, the credits, where it says Claude Speed, you'd think GTA3 and GTA2 would tie together? And the game files in GTA3, where someone found the name "Claude" in one of the games. And then the San Andreas hint.
XcR
I agree, Claude does sound a little.. 'softcore'. Something like 'Ripper' would suit him better
Demarest
I been with GTA since GTA2, and at the end, the credits, where it says Claude Speed, you'd think GTA3 and GTA2 would tie together? Well I've been with GTA since the original and 1 and 2 weren't tied together at all. So when 3 hit, there was no reason to suspect any ties. Then when VC hit, it was certain there were no direct ties. Oh and "claude" is not in the files of GTA3 at all. @f-s-x: I agree that name-calling is too far. I never enjoy it when people take things so personally
GritSandWiches4Breakfest
LOL, I never knew what he was called and I didn't pay too much attention until my second time playing SA lol during that race where you learn his name. Iron Man
i called him Diablo. makes ense, he raised hell in Liberty, amde every gang hate him (except the Yakuza) and he lived through it. he has a load of weapons, and has a whole bunch of cool cars (well, it depends on what in ur garage) but still, think about it, he killed gang bosses, disrupted drug deals, and got his revenge on his girlfriend. snaporaz
i'm going with claude speed. claude is a great name because it makes no attempt at being cinemax cool like "jack" or some sh*t. diablo? ripper? that crap sounds like a thirteen year-old's aol nick. the only reason claude is "soft" is probably because so many people want his name to be hardcore-to-the-max or something equally foolish. how about just being randomly inventive? as for fido...what a f*cking insult, man. he's not some lapdog like maria implied. he's the boss of liberty city for f*ck sake. 51L3N7 4554551N
Chill out. We're just saying that we still call him the name that he was called before his name was verified in SA. snaporaz
Chill out. We're just saying that we still call him the name that he was called before his name was verified in SA. Fido is not an insult, it's a name, and to most of us, his name call him what you want, i don't care. i may have seemed uppity, but i like cursing so...anyways, it puzzles me as to how some people can't see how "fido" is insulting. you do realize it's a classic dog's name, right? and you understood why maria called him that, right? did i have to state the obvious? simply put, i like the guy. awesome character. and i wouldn't want to call him something degrading like that when i play, i'm him, and i don't want to be known as some gangster's chump and be called something like i'm fetching this and that for him like a trained monkey.
