So another useless patch? Hardly surprising. Rockstar just releases buggy games one after another. To make it look like they actually cared they release a "patch" that contains all the fixes the community has found anyway. Same with GTA3, same with Vice City, same with SA. How about fixing the goddamn gameplay bugs, such as the gym bug? They certainly knew about it since it was there in the PS2 version and it has been complained about a lot. Not to mention all the technical issues.

In fact, the GTA3 and later era games work pretty well for me if you don't count the gameplay bugs. I just feel for the people who can't play without crashes every 5 mins or so.

PS. Ok, it adds dynamic car dirt? Whoa. I never had any idea it should even have been there.

Is your game modded?

NOpe...my game has had NO mods put on it ever. And it was installed after a clean install of WinXP Pro SP2...

Mobo Bios, Video, and sound card drivers are the newest out (went through this while having Take 2 tech help troubleshoot).

Oh and the lockups with radio...are with dEFAULT raido files...not my own songs.

Hey blindfish...post here and let us know if it fixes all the crashes.

Im waiting...being as my game works 90% of the time now..... I want to see if the patch fixesthe crashes or is just a lame A$$ attempt at Public Relations (and not the hot coffee kind smile.gif

Well I installed the patch and guess what? It hasn't fixed the lockups I get when swapping cars - the one bug that makes the game pretty unplayable mad.gif

OK - so I've only played it for five minutes with the patch installed but the moment it gave me the same crash as usual I just gave up... I think it's safe to assume they've rushed out a patch to kill hotcoffee without making sure it fixes all the bugs - so yep, looks like PR rather than a genuine effort to sort out playability problems. I'll try again when I've calmed down but, sadly, I suspect my copy of SA will be winging its way back to R* with a request for a refund.

I'll wait till the problem is definitively fixed (assuming that ever happens) then I might go out and buy it again - by which point it'll probably be on budget - where such bugged software belongs... They should be paying us for doing their quality assurance angry.gif

HEY Blind...thanks for posting back man rah.gif

About your crashing... try this.

1) If you have a creative labs sound card MAKE sure your drivers are up to date. Creative just came out with new drivers this past May or June (after 2+ yrs of NO updates).

2) IF you are running with your Radio on... TURN IT OFF as soon as you enter a car. The radio causes my game to crash 99% of the time in the first 5-10 min of game play. Especially when I switch cars.

3) IF you are running any kind of cheat (like Pizza trainer)...try running without it. I think it may also cause game instability.

Good luck man... I have NEVER EVER EVER had to doink with a game like this just to play it.

For those having trouble getting cars clean/dirty: It only happens if you've got the visual FX quality set to Medium or above.

You know that the gym bug and the basketball bugs have been fixed for ages, right?

Haven't tried it, since i never experienced those glitches.

Ah... Hadn't realised what a mess Creative's site is. The newest drivers I could find for my Live sound card were from March 03 - I'd installed those assuming they simply hadn't been updated in a long time suicidal.gif

I'll have to have another look for the newest drivers - might mean opening my box to check the product code on the soundcard I guess... there seem to be lots of different versions of the Live soundcard and I don't remember exactly which model I bought confused.gif

Funnily enough I got a reply from R* UK support today telling me to update my sound drivers... 6 days to reply isn't too bad rahkstar2.gif

Still I'm surprised their FAQ isn't a little more comprehensive... If lots of people are having problems with Creative's drivers it would have helped to post the driver version # that they knew worked - that way it would have been clearer to morons like me that I didn't have the most up-to-date version and should go driver hunting... rather than contacting them.

I'd also decided the main bug is something to do with the streaming audio on the radios... though I tend to find once I'm in a car and it hasn't crashed then the game runs smoothly. As for cheats - I haven't needed them.. yet, so they're not causing the problem.

What i would like to know is this:

Will the new mods that gets released be based on the new version (1.01) or not?

Coz if that's the deal, then we don't have any other choice then to update our current version confused.gif

if you mean mods by vehicles and textures... yes. because they are based on gta3.img, which is unchanged (and i mean unchanged as in: it's practically the same thing without the components of the hot cophee mod and the dirt bla bla bla), but if you mean by modes as in "car spawners" or trainers or others, they may not work on both versions. probably the developers will release some of these gizmos for the 1.01 or maybe they will make a v2.0 (or greater) that works on both versions... we'll see...

#6 - The black roads glitch is still there!

Agrees, i am so pissed, now i will have to change my FX 5200 GFX card, unless they will make another patch that will fix this sh*tty glitch sneaky2.gif

Rockstar's 1.01 FAQ says black roads are caused by 32mb video cards or low distance settings or forcing Bi-Linear or Tri-Linear filtering to ON, et cetera et cetera et cetera...

But my GeForce 5200 is 128mb - and the problem is fixed by dropping the Direct3D 'Mipmap LOD bias adjustment' setting to -3 using RivaTuner.

yea i meant mods that change the main.scm and script.img files, and the tools / trainers / etc etc to

ok... i am officially S M R A T!!!

So basically i installed the patch only for the basketball glitch... but along came the "can't use car spawner etc". I found a kinky solution:

before i installed the patch, i made a backup of my original gta_sa.exe. I installed the patch, all things good... basketball thingie works. Then I changed my new gta_sa.exe in gta_sa.exe.101baxup, and renamed the previous file. guess what? basketball works (probably it was just a script thing), and the modes work also. of course, i don't recomand this to noone, because you may get crashes, but if you are willing to risk it, the game works, the settings are the same, the save games are working, the stand alone modes are working great, and the basketball glitch is no more. i don't know about the other things like the dirt/no dirt because i've replace the particles.txd with a clean one, so i don't know if it works, but frankly, i don't give a sh*t. tounge2.gif

I wish that SAAC program worked with my controller. The game runs then crashes with an EXE error. Dammit I hope an update to that comes out soon.

Ya I Hate Creatives site. Not to mention that once I DID get the new drivers they would not install due to a "No Creative device detected" confused.gif I had to manually install them.

What I fail to see is how it could be a sound card driver issue. How could R* test drivers that havent even been released before the game was realeased?

I have to agree..... This is something to do with the way the audio files are streamed. As every crash I now have has something to do with the audio (radio or cutscenes)

Sucks that the clean/dirty cars effect only works on Medium/High detail levels; not much good for those of us having to run with Low settings bored.gif

What you did was un-doing the patch tounge.gif . Not installing the patch would give same results.

To all the people who whine; if you don't wanna, DON'T INSTALL THE PATCH! Geez.

This patch fixes many errors. No, it does not fix the Black Roads problem. That is not a problem in the game, it's in your comp. The patch also includes a handy V2 readme (named SA 1.01 FAQs) which includes instructions to solve that and many other problems.

In short, this patch is MUCH better than nothing.

DirectX hook mods will have to be changed (slightly) to be compatible, yes, same for trainers and other stuff which access the game EXE memory. No big deal, same was with VC.

Nothing to complain about.

I have a feeling more patch(es) will be released. Also notice this is SA 1.01, opposed to VC and GTA3 patches which were 1.1 alien.gif

I had to reinstall my game because it would even start after I installed the patch...the only problem I was having was some sound issues when it rained and sometimes when I had a big wreck so those few problems I can live with.

Okay, this doesn't sound like the best patch ever, but no. 1 for me: Does it fix the audio glitches, or will my weapons still sound muffled and all other FX disappear when it rains?

I had to go out and buy a sound blaster 24bit to fix my sound problems... confused.gif

Um... Did you try the patch before or what? Has that answer anything to do with the patch?

In my experience I was also having the problems with audio when it rained. This patch did not fix this for me.

Also another thing it was supposed to fix was the reverb at certain save points. I never had a problem with this, until I patched. Now I’ve experienced it once so far after a Catalina mission (saving at Catalina’s).

The bugs the patch "fixes" shouldnt have even been there in the first place confused.gif

As opposed to fixing a bug which was supposed to be there, eh?

Well Rockstar still has bugs to fix obvisouly, all this mod really seems to right do from reports is disable hot coffee...

so.. i can fix 2 problems Rockstar screwed up on in the PC version, though not in the PS2 verion, all it has to do is textures on 2 vehicles, no big deal anyone could of fix them, but i guess im the only one to release the files to download, all my fix does is fix 2 TXD bugs.

These 2 TXD's fixes 2 bugs with the Sandking and Bloodring banger in the PC Version of San Andreas

the Sandking's Logos would appear all white ingame because its texture "sultan92stickers128" didnt have an Alpha Texture.

so i simply got the "sultan92stickers128" texture out of the "sultan.txd" which had the right alpha

the Bloodings Numbers didnt appear on the roof, they would be black squares, and there was a white box around the numbers on the Body of the Bloodring, this is because the texture "bloodra92numbers" also didnt have an alpha, in order to fix this, i got the alpha out of the PS2 Version of the Bloodring.txd, which was the exact same texture in it.

Note: Need Gamespy ID to download (its free to regesiter)

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetg...TXD%20Fixes.rar

or from GTAgarage, but the download isnt approved yet so you will have to wait awhile till it is
