Blankhand
This is a nice little guide, and well presented. Though it has been done. What you could do to make it better is add the info that none of the weapon guides I've come accross have had. I have a couple questions about the weapons that I kind of gave up on sometime ago after looking at many such guides on many websites. Would it be possible to give us the actual damage numbers, maybe even just for the guns (since the melee weapons have combo moves that do different amounts of damage, although maybe the melee weapons could just give an average of their different moves' damage). I know this would be a little tougher and involve digging arround in some of the game files or something but even if you just did it for the guns I think it would differentiate this guide from the ones that have been done before. Edit: I notice now that it seems your on the PS2 version so that info is less accesable to you. I see a few other discrepancies too though. The AK47 is missing the category field (no big deal). The MP5 is listed as a machine gun when in fact it is an SMG (sub-machine gun). The Automatic Shotgun (in game called a "Combat Shotgun" on the PC anyway) is listed as having a poor range when in fact it has a pretty good range, I would say medium.. It's range is about as good as the machine pistols. Machine Pistols, are called Mini-SMGs in game I believe, and I am pretty sure that in real life there is a difference, Tec-9s and Mac-10 are not generaly refered to as pistols (I am not a gun expert though so I could be wrong). And finaly I believe that the RPG is a little more powerful and has faster moving rockets than the heat seaking rocket lawn chair. I almost think you should have more than three ranges for the guns - like the regular shotgun has slightly better range than the sawn off and the combat shotgun has better range than either. Unfortunately, the author of this guide has been banned from the forum and so updates are unlikely even though it is a "featured" guide. It's not hard to pull the damage numbers from weapon.dat, but I don't know if there are any modifiers which come into play with them. I can edit in the raw data, but don't expect the first post to be changed to include it. Perhaps Mainland Marauder will add such info to his alternative weapon faq which is actively maintained. EDIT: Raw damage numbers from weapon.dat; as stated above, I don't know a heck of a lot about gun and damage mechanics so these may be modified in-game. Since damage from explosives and other non-guns is almost certainly modified and/or applied multiple times, I'm not even going to post them. 9mm Pistol -- 25 Silenced 9mm Pistol -- 40 Desert Eagle -- 70 @ poor skill, 140 @ gangster/hitman skill Chrome Shotgun -- 10 per pellet* Sawnoff Shotgun -- 10 per pellet* Spaz Shotgun -- 15 per pellet* * - I have no idea how many pellets are fired or any other specifics of the shotgun. Hopefully someone more experienced will weigh in on that. Tec9 -- 20 Micro SMG (Uzi) -- 20 SMG (MP5) -- 25 AK47 -- 30 M4 -- 30 Country Rifle -- 75 Sniper Rifle -- 125 Minigun -- 140 Edited March 24, 2006 by pdescobar
Blankhand
OOps, you replied so fast while I was slowly editing my post.. Going to check out that other faq now then Edit: OK, now we are cross-posting and cross-editing at the same time Edit: Cool thanks, that is great - now I gues I'll go look arround in that file myself. Begins to answer some of my questions though. I am always trying to figure out which is better the Tek-9 or the Micro-SMG, it seems it really boils down to rate of fire, accuracy, and range (though range is pretty much an aspect of accuracy since neither are effective at really long range). Streamer
@ Pdescobar: Unfortunately he was banned? He deserved that ban for ripping GTANet's content. I don't even know why this is open still, Mainland Marauder's Weaponry FAQ and Early Arsenal Building Guide seems much more detailed and is what a real guide consists of. I'd be too kind if I praised the topic starter for his "work."
Bryce.
Hopefully someone more experienced will weigh in on that Oh PD, you make me laugh. No one knows more than you about this topic. But Streamer is right, we just need to use Mainland Maurader's. Silent Assassin was an idiot. Jeez a six month bump, can't believe it was still around. Mainland Marauder
Thanks for the praise guys. Wow. Bumpzilla is towering over downtown GTAFville, overturning cars. I don't have the damage values but I believe those are posted on the GTANet. If I include them they will be credited appropriately, if you catch my drift... I'd be too kind if I praised the topic starter for his "work." You're misreading me, Joey. It's not unfortunate that Silent was banned. It's unfortunate that a featured guide will most likely never be updated because the author was banned. Sorry if my wording was confusing to you; if you want to continue that conversation, though, it's best done via PM as we're going off-topic. As for why this guide is still featured at the top of the forum, you'll have to take that up with the staff. @Bryce: It's not modesty, it's truth. There are aspects of these games that I know almost nothing about, and the mechanics of damage is one of those areas. As for the bump, it's essentially a pinned topic since it's a featured guide and so bumps are fairly meaningless, particularly when they are on-topic like Blankhand's was. @MM: Feel free to use my previous raw damage edit, unless you find better detail somewhere else. Bryce.
PD, I wasn't try to say you were being modest, I was just saying that if anyone knew, it would be you. I think this topic should be locked because it can't be updated and MM's is a bit better.

pdescobar
Where is the kincaid bridge support. some one please tell me. The Kincaid Bridge is the railroad bridge between San Fierro and the desert. I'm going to assume you want the location of the minigun which is on top of one of the Kincaid Bridge supports. In that case here is a SAM link marking it, courtesy of Mainland Marauder's Weaponry FAQ.
Mainland Marauder
Well, courtesy also of my ROSA Separatist partner in crime and esteemed FAQ collaborator, gillies who produced the SAM links for me. Also, the minigun is on the Kincaid bridge support on the San Fierro side, rather than the Tierra Robada side, if you're just interested in the one spawn. Mind that it can be tricky with an invisible barrier plane around the surface of the bridge support if the desert is still barricaded. Here is the full version for those interested. The one PD linked is the original topic, where I ran out of room after placing the SAM links. RealCharlieBrown
It would be nice to know which weapon goes on each slot. For example, you cannot carry an AK-47 AND an M-4 at the same time. Can you carry an sniper rifle and an M-4 for example? Haven't tried, but will be nice to know if it is possible Also, clarify that although same category weapons share the same ammo, finding a different weapon, vene if the use the same ammo, don't add to your ammo unless it is the same type. errr, sounds confusing, but you know what I mean

The ammo thing works for some weapons but not all of them, for example you could collect some AK-47 ammo, and than find an M4, the M4 would take whatever ammo the Ak-47 had plus whatever ammount was picked up when you found the M4. Mutha4ka
For the camera - there's also one in the corner of CJ's bedroom in the Johnson house... I've got a question (that'll save me making a new thread) - Is that also the only location for the spray can? It's annoying to have to head all across town if I get busted or wasted... I was gutted to find there wasn't one in any of the safe houses I bought.
pdescobar
There is also a spray can on the roof of the shop behind the Johnson house and another in Northeast LS as seen on the SAM image link below.

The Raven
MinigunCategory: Heavy Artillery Range: High Magazine: 500 Dual Wield: No Power: High Location: On top of Kincaid bridge support Run with it?: No A mega powerful weapon with only manual aiming and the stopping power of a tank He forgot to add this is the most powerful personal weapon. That's my favorite one. Anyway the original icons and some info about all weapons are here and the info is probably coppied from somewhere. I suspect he didn't write it himself. And because of that he's 'BUSTED!' now for ripping as the sig says. I think most of you know all that stuff for the weapons.

pdescobar
Where can you find the heat vision goggles?? I looked at Area 69 and in Madd Dogg's Crib and keep finding night vision!!! The IR Goggles spawn in Madd Dogg's place near the video game console, in Zero's RC shop, at Area69 at the little outpost where you went to open the doors, and at the Big Ear under the huge dish. They only spawn after the mission Black Project. Note that each location is a one-time-only pickup; if you get them, they'll never respawn at that spot again. So be careful about saving afterwards if that's important to you.

Stefan.
You do realise that Silent Assasin has been banned for nearly 18 months for ripping. Whatever you say for advice to change the topic is useless. Nonetheless, Silent, wherever you are, nice topic. Rated good, plus I'll put cookies on your grave.
