followed advice on here, still runs bad

I dont post here very often, just mostly lurk/read. I tried what most have suggested for running GTA:SA but still have no luck.

 

my system specs are:

 

2.2 Ghz celeron (maybe the problem?)

640 megs of ram (pc133 I believe)

Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (pci unfortunitly... my MOBO doesnt have an AGP slot)

dx 9.0c

windows XP media center 2005

 

I run the game on 640 X 480 @ low detail (minimal draw distance) and it usually runs ok (still likes to get choppy) for about 10-20 mins then starts getting VERY slow (probably about 5-10 FPS). I even tried setting the color depth to 16K but that didnt really help.

 

any ideas? It's very fustrating.

This is really wierd. I have an amd duron @ 800mhz, 512 sdr pc133, gf4 mx440, win xp sp2, and i play SA at 800x600x32, low fx, draw distance 5 lines, and it runs at a constant 20fps. I don't know how that can be. I have a friend who has a p4 @ 3ghz, 1g ram, and an nvidia 6800, and he has the same problem as you do. It runs(bearly walks, lol) at 5-8 fps at 640x480... R* better release a patch soon, very soon

I dont know either... it's really strange. I can run doom 3 decently at 800 X 600 at high detail with out much trouble (frames skip a little from time to time, nothing major though)

 

do you (or anyone else for that matter) know if I can lower the draw distance even further than the default minimum setting? Kind of like the mod to make it further?

Update your sound driver to the newest version possible. Otherwise it could maybe be your operating system because it is not officialy supported. Although it is basicaly XP with a few added functions so it should work. But the game is buggy and that's the main problem. I don't think Rockstar will ever fix the buggines.
