Sound Reaction Posted August 4, 2005 Share Posted August 4, 2005 This is REALLY weird... I used to play Half-Life and Half-Life 2 much, and it ran good enough on my machine... AMD Athlon XP 1900+ 1.60 GHz 512 RAM Saphie ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256 MB After installing Vice City it still was good, but then after a few days of playing VC, HL started to lag VERY much.The Half-Life game is a 7 years old FPS, but its still alife because of its mods, so its no doubt that my machine can run it. But now... I dont know....... I havent played HL2 after getting this weird lag, but i think that its better not to try, or the card will just burn. Yesterday i even got a black screen fo a second, and then got a message from ATI Catalyst Driver, that my VPU graphics accelerator wasnt responding and therefore was restarted... Though, the VERY VERY VERY WEIRD thing is that VC is still running as it had before. It still has some graphics problems, but i had them from the beginning, so... Ive looked inside the computer, and the card looks good overall, no signs of burning or any other things... Can somebody help me please? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If that's a genuine concern for you, then your machine is not adequately cooled. To answer your topic title, no. VC did NOT kill your graphics card. My graphics card is right near 3 coolers (cpu, chasis and power, and the last one is really powerfull) and has a huge heatpack(radiator). The problem was very easy to solve, lol. The drivers installed for the card were set on "high perfomance" insteard of "high quality". You'd think its the other way around, but its not lol. Damn ATI. You can lock the thread now.
