Fatality.
I know what you mean. The Hydra can be very clumsy. It takes some practice to learn how to fly it properly. By the way, welcome. Edited August 4, 2005 by Fatality.
g33k
If you are using PC use num 8 to sett it to horzontal mode. If on ps2 I think its right analog stuf up.

Joe<Jo3>
you probably don't have the nozzles up all the way.
Fatality.
First of all, are you taking off properly? You have to have a clear open space ahead of you. Hit the gas, and pull back on the analog stick when the rear of the plane lifts up. Once you're in the air, you have to detract the landing gear, by pushing the "R3" button. Also, the Hydra doesn't go very fast at full speed, so don't expect too much.
FallOutBoy
Dude, the Hydra hovers....So how would you take off at full speed?
EricT
You have to turn nozzles - special control up and down. Up gives you max speed - just follow animation and you'll be OK.
Mainland Marauder
What took me so long to get the hang of the Hydra controls is how I normally use the right analog stick to pan the camera. That controls the thruster controls and it's not fun to be hovering, looking over something, then hitting up on the stick to send it full-speed into some building. That sort of hurts and usually requires some medical attention. It's the same reason why I shy away from hydraulics on my cruising cars, because I like to be able to look around with the camera. "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be."

NUTZ_J98
The Hydra has the jet props movable and when you take off, you just go straight up. If you point the props all the way back first(and make sure they are all the way back) you can take off like a normal plane. Then you can pull up landing gear. Also you can take off horizontally and make sure you are above everything or nothing around then (whatever button does this) point props back and the plane will start to go forward. Make sure once again that they go all the back before you stop or you wont go very fast. They have alot of movement. I use a controller on PC version so just like PS2 version, my right analog pushed forward makes my props point backwards thus the plane takes off in a straight direction. SI MoViE StAr
I thought the hydra was the fastest plane in the game?

NUTZ_J98
I thought the hydra was the fastest plane in the game? I think it is but they aint getting the thrusters all the way back. I know its the fastest thing I fly. Oh yeah and we keep telling him to push the thrusters back to get that sucker to go fast and how about when he wants to stop? Anybody know the button that points them back down to hover? Once again I use controller on PC so mine is analog forward for one and backward for one. You could just land it normally but if you want to set her down on building or something then you should figure that out!

GTA3Freak-2001
Do I hear a echo? While the Hydra has said to be the fastest plane but quite frankly its about as fast as the Shamel it just has a higher accleration I think.
teh roxxors
The Hydra and Shamal have the same top speed of 200 Km/h and same acceleration. The Shamal has about twice the mass of the Hydra, which is to say that while they are equally fast, the Hydra is much more maneuverable. The Hydra has more than twice the drag, so it comes to a stop faster. It's all in handling.cfg.
