Vehicle Database

EDIT: The first page seems to be f*cked up, any way of fixing it?

Large tables can make the forum cranky; or it could be a post length problem. Maybe you could cut down on some of the location text (like the Kart) or batch convert all the "No known location" ones to simply "N/A" with a note at the top or bottom that "N/A" means there are no specific parked locations. Hopefully you have the post code saved locally on your computer since the aircraft and anything beyond looks to be gone.

For vehicle locations, why not just link to the sam map fully zoomed out? It will show them all and cut like 70% off your post length from the links... You could mark one in the link and call the link "Driving school (click for others)" or something.

I've come up with an idea.

Did anyone see my PGC Database?

Well basicly, it was done on Flash and this way I can make a database using buttons that you click to view the information.

Shall I make this or stick with the table problem?

It might be an interesting alternative, but I'd much rather you find a way to fix the tables. I've never been a big fan of things which are done exclusively in Flash.

My only addition request to this great thread (and it might be done already but I'm a newb) but can you add the motorcycles to the list?

Don't stick with it find a way to fix it. Flash could be annoying for some people and having it in flash isn't as convenient, and a nice clean list.

So if you decide to stick with tables you can either;

• Design a whole new table for your data

• Fix what you've got (may have a un-nested tags inside of that rather large table)

I'm currently trying the think of a way to fix it, unfortunately, I can't have two posts to put it all in confused.gif

Now I've really f*cked it up, I'm going to change every one instead of just the SUVs

Can you move Stafford from 2-door section to 4-door luxury sedans?

Also the aircraft and end of the post are all messed up for me in Firefox 1.5.01.

So far you have used 47283 characters

Which I'm pretty sure isn't the limit and with quoting you've got HTML tags in there, unless of course that's just an effect of too many or too broken table tags.

well it's fine when I actually put it in the posting box, but when I actually post it, it dies. It even works when I preview it

EDIT: I've taken Aircraft out and it looks fine now, I've also shortened the introductory discription which should help add some space.

Another idea is for a mod/admin to delete Barbaneez's first post so I have to in row and I can edit my second one and have more space, it seems a bit drastic though confused.gif

There was some discussion of this in the Network area a while back. If the post is stored in the database as HTML, the conversion from ibb code to html may inflate the character count over the 64k limit, and Ottae's guide has a lot of tables, colors, and links. Ottae, for now why not just edit the aircraft into your later post and stick a very short note at the end of the first post mentioning this? They don't necessarily have to be back-to-back.

This is a good thread. I'm glad to see you're still updating it. It is a very important thread as the "official" vehicle guide. It's linked on EVERY page here... No pressure or anything.

I would like to offer some suggestions while your editing, if I may.

First(as someone else already mentioned), remove ALL the locations. One single link to SAM, and maybe a short description of what it is and how to use it, would be fine. I personally would put it near the top with "LOCATIONS" screaming all around it, so n00bs find SAM all the sooner.

As for the space, well, Tranfender(shudder), Wheel, Loco, and none all start with different letters. T,W,L, and N work fine if they are defined. Also, If a column in the table takes too much space, put the letter after the car name with a hyphen or some parantheses or an asterick. Or some sh*t.

I do not understand the 'rating' stat... it is very broad and subjective. Even if it's how "good" they are to drive(for you, or Brady), it still depends on on/off road, cruising or racing, chase or pursuit(there IS a difference,IMO), ect. The ratings would be very different if the rater liked to ram and plow through traffic...

There ARE some meaningful stats in the "Vehicle Stats" thread, which I would ask you to seriously consider incorporating into your list. Data like top speed, acceleration, and drive type(R, F, 4?) would be VERY nice to have in your guide. Mass might be a good one also, to distinguish between the better sportcars, but it really doesn't matter. The dollar values are pretty useless too, since you can actually purchase only a few vehicles IN the game, *BUT* with all the gang stuff and thread games based on GTA here in the forums... well stats are grist for the imagination and provide standards for play. I'm SURE people must use them already, now that I think about it...

And I'm sure all of it is just a familiar toy in the hands of a modder... BTW, what DOES it look like behind the curtain? (And now they made MuLtIPlAyEr?!? WTF?!?) ANNNyway...

HOWEVER, the vehicle stats thread is hopelessly jumbled. It sucks trying to find the stats for a specific vehicle. Also, after comparing the list in the thread with it's source document(apparently some arcane game data) I have found some errors. There are even two inconsistant entries for the POlice Rancher.(Ranger?) The source doc is an eye-sore, but it's more accurate. OR their may be a correct list in the mod forum somewhere, but I wouldn't know because it is WAAYYY TOOO scary in there. (And yet, so intriguing...)

The vehicle specifics ARE nice to have. You can disect the cars and bikes, and compare them in a measurable way.(without knowing cpp or whatever) Who knew the torismo and sultan have 4WD? OR that the big bad Yosimite truck DOESN'T?(I imagine most players do not casually notice these things... I didn't.)

In short, I think you have a great guide here, and I'm sure you want it to be better, since you're working on it again. I know it's asking a lot, but IMHO, you should put some stats like the mass, acceleration, top speed, drivetype, and costs into the list. In this thread. The Vehicle DATAbase. *THE* official GTAF SA Vehicle Guide.

No pressure, dude.

Just my $2,

So it seems I have two main options:

1. keep the locations in but add a note on the bottom of the first post to look at my next post.

2. Forget the Locations and just add a link to SAM, meaning that the page won't die but it is less informative.

I personally would like to keep the locations in and edited my next post, but you're the people who need the guide, so what would be best 1 or 2?

@Ray - Thanks for the C&C, I have thought about adding info such as top-speed and drive type, but as you can see, the post dies if I add just an extra column! I was also going to add in the prices of each car, but it seemed to time consuming.

Basicly, I only have limited space,If it does work to edit my second post, I'll do so. This means that I can add other stats like acceleration etc.

I would go for option 2; SAM. Anyone who has a link to SAM will go straight to IT if they need to find locations. Anyone who plays SA and does NOT have a link to SAM, *should*, because they invariably start posting "where's the hydra/minigun/ect" (usually in topics with informative titles like "help!!!! or "qeschun..")

Plus, all the "location"s just take up more room. It sucks you put so much effort into doing it, and it does look and work great, but it is extraneous.

For MORE SPACE, I would change the "modded?" and "Sex Appeal" columns to hold more info in each.

You can combine both into one column using only the initials of the variables. T, W, L, for mod garages, and a second letter for sex appeal, like (H)igh, (A)verage, (M)inimal. Or any combination of terms with distinct first letters.

I strongly suggest the second column be used for topspeed, acceleration, and Drive type. All of it is no more then a few characters long per vehicle. Use F(front wheel drive), R(rear), and A(all, or four wheel drive).

car - top, acc, drive

Banshee - 200, 33, R

Bullet - 230, 30, R

Taxi - 180, 20, F

Sultan - 200, 28, A

you could even just append the acc with the drive, like 33R or 28A.

That's a lot of info for five numbers and a letter.

If you've seen the "WangShowroom" thread with a long list of made up prices right here in SA:GD, you would understand how great the need is for the costs, too, IMO.

If I knew how to make columns and all that, I would offer to help, but to be honest, I'm a total n00b because I don't even know how to post crap like links and pics. all that [tech] sh*t and [/tech] crap.

Well, that's longer then I intended. I'm sorry to repeat my earlier suggestions, but I really can not stress them enough. The prices and performance data for the cars and bikes at least should be in here. Just abbreviate everything and scrunch it all together.

My final plea,

Ray

After much deliberation, I've decided to turn it back into it's former glory, adding locations and extra info is more trouble that it's worth.

I am going to add a small contents table as well.

Finally, this topic is fixed and useful again. Good job. icon14.gif

(The closing color tag is missing at the top, but that's a tiny thing.)

Just a thought. If you really want to add more info that badly, you could always put it in another post, then place a link to that other post in the bottom of the first one.

Although I like it the way it is. In all honesty the pics of the vehicles are the only really important part. This is the topic I've always linked people to when they didn't know which vehicle was which.

Again, good job. smile.gif

hey Ottae,

i think this is a great guide...however, you've left out the Sweeper, which spawns at Verdant Bluffs, Los Santos, under an overpass...you actually go right next to it to deliver packages during the Roboi's Food Mart asset mission....also, the Towtruck, but i don't know whether it has a specific spawn location or not...

hope this helps! and if you have included them, please excuse the oversight

There's one missing brotha:

Tahoma | Loco Low Co. | Medium | 7/10

The Tahoma is not a lowrider, although it can be found in the Unity Station lot at the lowrider contest for some reason. Only lowriders can be modified at Loco Low Co.

However, Tahomas seem to be the only non-lowrider I seem to find in traffic equipped with hydraulics.

Actually, the Tahoma is a low-rider. According to the vehicle flags in handling.cfg at least (from PC v1.) And I think it is modded at Loco Low Co on my xbox v1. Is it different on the PS2?

I swear I've modded a Tahoma at Transfenders.

Can you do it both places?

The Tahoma sure as hell doesn't look like a lowrider; it's essentially a four-door Majestic.

The Carolina game's almost over, so maybe Mrs. Marauder will let me test this out myself wink.gif

EDIT: Stop the presses. I must have modded a Majestic at Transfenders and not a Tahoma, because I pulled out my BP Tahoma from the "House Party" mission and took it to Transfenders. Door won't open for it. Took it to Loco Low Co. It can be modded there. You don't get any special paint jobs or cool lowrider stuff there; what you get seems to be no different than what you get at Transfenders. This makes me wonder if the Tahoma was tagged a lowrider by mistake in development.

All the same, I confirm that pdescobar's correct, and I stand corrected. smile.gif

And the only vehicle though that has a bug when repainting at Pay n Spray is the Vortex. The game freezes everytime you make CJ get off it ( Triangle for PS2). Luckily, there's a "fix" that can be applied to this bug.
