trip
Just bumping this thread to see if others suffer seasonal riding. October is usually the last month to stretch out any riding around these parts. I say 'waaaaaa' to that. The only thing it is good for is making the beginning of every riding season just a bit more special. I have been riding the streets since i was legal and I still get a smiley good thing going when I smell that first whiff of burning oil in the spring. And don't come bitching at me calling me a pussy for not riding in the cold. I did my time as a younger rider in the cold. peace folks - shiny side up even if it's dirty My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens
Oddsock
My family bought a used Aprilia Scarabeo 200 a few months ago for my dad's work commute -- only 150 miles on it because the owner bought it but then had back surgery. Here she is: I nicknamed her the Doña Herrera after these two Mexican sisters I know. The thing is a real blast and I love riding on two wheels, but I want to upgrade gradually. My ultimate goal is either a Triumph Thruxton 900 or Bonneville.

trip
Tsar_Smirnoff, great bikes. I have a deep love for the classics. Always have. My last classic was a '81 yamaha xv920. This image is not of the one I had, but the same color and everything. It was the first year of their v-twin, and I can confirm that this bike had/has major balls. The dude I sold it too called me months later to thank me for making his summer. I'm limited to only being able to keep 2 bikes thanks to living in a city and not having a garage or anything, or I would have a ton of little straight seaters. 1 harley fx low for me, and 1 honda rebel for my 4'11'' wife. Tsar_Smirnoff
Thanks tripmills, I've just always been more fascinated with vintage and antique bikes more than modern ones. I love inline-four motorcycle engines.....I've had that 650 for five years, and it's never given me a problem once. The KZ 1000 screams down the road...it purrs right along at 95 mph. People say, "well that ain't sh*t! My (insert bike name) goes twice as fast as that!" Then I have to say, "Yeah, but mine is over 30 years older than yours!" The Triumph is kick start only, and all I can say is you better hope that bitch doesn't quit at a redlight! I bet that '81 Yamaha was fast as hell, can't beat the old Japanese bikes....what year's the Harley? My dad's got a 1987 Harley FXRP(police model). My Harley FX Low is '04, but I treat it like a bike. I'm not one of those 'Harley owners' Right now it is dirty as sh*t. I have the worlds cheapest saddle bags and all but one buckle is broken. Open pipes with slip ons - so it isn't one of those new quieter Harleys. If I get around to washing it tomorrow I will take a photo. I hear ya on the love of the classics. Someday I will be in the position where I can return to that passion. For now I need to be particle. At one point I had a '71 LDT450 all decked out with the glory of those years - the freakin backrest must have been 4ft high. That bike was great just on character. Your dad is a lucky man. Police cruisers are not easy to get a hold of around here. By the time they make it to auction in this city they are almost beat to the point of no return. My father is anti-motorcycle even though I have been riding the streets for just under 25yrs now. And yes that Yamaha xv920 was intense when it came to speed. You need strong neck muscles just to keep your head from snapping back when starting from a dead stop. It sucked ass for turns though. A 90degree turn from a dead stop made you feel like a f*cktard because you would have to swing out far. So, it didn't make for the best city bike. Taste Of Chaos
Managed to land myself a nice red AlpineStars Barcelona jacket in Red about a month back. Brand new for £199.99 down from £350.00. It's lovely, perfect fit n all. Opportunity knocks once in a lifetime, temptation will lean on the doorbell. dog_day_sunrise
You need some proper boots I like AlpineStars gear, my track boots are A-Stars and I also got them at a massive discount, because one zip was broken. Fixed that myself, as good as new now.
Taste Of Chaos
Haha yeah the boots are next on the list. sh*tty supermarket wages don't like decent motorbike gear. Though christmas is nearing. Those gloves are wafter-thin summer ones. Freeze your hands with them in winter, so I could do with another thicker pair, but gloves can come pretty cheap. Taste Of Chaos
Haha. Enduro just looks crazy fun to me. I've got my module one UK motorbike test on friday morning. It'd be my first ACTUAL attempt at it considering that I've been up to the test center 2 times already. First time, the DSA f*cked up and thought I was there for my module two. Second time they actually got it right, but it was so foggy that literally couldn't see down the end of the compound, so they had to postpone all the tests. And the only free slot they had was friday morning... Again... Hopefully it'll be third time lucky, But I won't hold my breath Opportunity knocks once in a lifetime, temptation will lean on the doorbell. dog_day_sunrise
I'm going to buy an Enduro bike, something crash-damaged to restore over the winter and spring, as me and a couple of my biker mates are planning on doing a round-Europe enduro ride in the summer. Good luck!
Taste Of Chaos
Thanks man. Had a bit of a smash on my CBR on tuesday. Took a corner at about 30mph, must have leaned in too much (chalk it up to the enormous hangover) and fell flat on my face.. Dislocated thumb, which I managed to re-locate by myself by accident when I pressed down on it because it hurt. Fractured wrist. And two broken toes? :S As if I wasn't mythed enough by the toes. All the damage is on the left hand side of my body. Where I hit the ground with my right hand side. Helmets f*cked n'all. I'd love to go on a ride around Europe. What places would you be visiting? And I've always fancied the idea of restoring a motorbike. Which is what I'll be doing with the CBR, and I'm really tempted towards converting it to the Repsol variant. The first one is always the worst in terms of not knowing what to expect, I found out recently that I fractured my wrists and didn't know about it when I had my first off. Odd to come off from too much lean though. I've been hanging off, properly knee down on the TT600 at 50+mph and it still seems to want to stay off the tarmac. Last time we rode Europe we did France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Home. I got pulled for doing 230kph in Germany a 120 and got a mild ticking off. This time we want to ride from the UK through France, Germany, Poland into Eastern Europe then through to Turkey.

Not a fan of the front end. It looks like it should be running a duolever front end but they're just shrouds for standard shocks. Boo. Also, Buell bikes are crap. dog_day_sunrise
Oh. I have no clue about bikes, I just thought it looked cool. So underneath the shiny it isn't sound technically? Depends who you speak to- some people will rant and rave about how Duolever suspension systems are going to be the death of traditional shocks but the fact of the matter is they're much easier to control during braking and hard acceleration and are lighter too. Buell are (or were) a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, and the 1125R was something of a black sheep- not a bad bike per se, but obviously too much cruiser to be a real superbike (146bhp from 1100cc? Please...You can get that from a well-fettled 600 or 750), and too much a superbike to be any use as a cruiser. It's also quite heavy compared to other bikes of the same power output- 207kg wet weight is around the same as the 190 wheel horsepower BMW S1000RR- which is also cheaper here in the UK. The centre of gravity on it is higher than you should have in a superbike- I think you'd struggle to keep up with a half-decent 600cc supersport. To me, Harley Davidson producing a superbike is like, I don't know, Maybach producing a proper sports car. It's just never really going to work properly. jelly
Oh. That's good, I have an excuse not to buy this one then. Having only two wheels scares me.
Pico
The Firebolt's have too short a wheelbase to be a cruiser, and the 1125R is based off of a Firebolt XB12R. If anything, the wheelbase is even longer that THAT. They're right up there in every spot as any other sports bike, minus the hp per liter. They are V-twins off Harley's so their torque is high, but the horsepower is lacking compared to an Asian brand bike with 1100+cc's. I think that Ronin is f*ckin bad ass. I've always loved the naked, street fighter style that Buell's (particularly the Thunderbolt XB's) have. The 1125R is too rice rocket for me in styling, and I dislike the large front fairing that's attached TO the front forks, it looks like it juts out too far and I hate how it turns with the front forks. To me, if you're going to have a fairing, attach it to the body and let the forks move independently. What sucks for me is my gut. I sat on a friends Ninja ZX-6... it was such a pain to reach over the gas tank and grab the low slung handlebars. I don't like Harley or cruiser style bikes, but I might be stuck with that sadly. What I'm hoping is I can get a street fighter style bike and be able to have a low enough gas tank with high enough handle bars (as is the style of street fighters, luckily for me). I posted this picture earlier in the thread (funny to see how little I knew about motorcycles... and I didn't have my license back then!). http://www.aluminum.nu/web/img/XB031107/XB031107_1.jpg ... mmm, I want it! @jelly, not sure how hard it is to get your motorcycle license over there. Here it took me 2 days of riding. So over one weekend I had it done. And that was the first I was ever on a motorcycle.

One of the guys I'm hopefully riding Eastern Europe this year is an organ courier and he rides a matte black Suzuki SV650 with a supercharged GSX1000R motor in it. Mmmm, 283whp naked bike. trip
I ride a 1440 Harley but I wouldn't call it fast. My yamaha xv920 was way faster. Anyway...Hi my bike brothers and sisters(even though I don't think there are any gtaf chick riders). After living through the worst winter on record in these parts, spring is finally here along with riding season. . So, I can participate in this thread again. I don't recall anyone from the east coast US in this thread. I was wondering how everyone's bike made it through this difficult winter. I don't have a garage or even a drive way, so I have to winter my bike on the side of the house. It had to live under 4ft of snow for too long. Bottom line. Today was to be the first day I fired it up for the season. It was so close, It turned over once, but the battery just couldn't hold out long enough. I'll pick up a charger tomorrow. I can't f*cking wait to get rolling this weekend. As much as it sucks to live in a seasonal riding area, it is almost worth it. I get the same excitement this time of year just as if it was my first season. Even the smell of the oil and gas burning through smells freakin great. ahhhhh love it.
