Even though I bought it SEP2015, I am going to show you guys my 2006 Honda SH 125i

I live in a city that quite "small" (1.6 million pop.) and that's basically because my city can't grow and spread out since it's surrounded by Mountains and sea (as you can see in the second picture). If you add that temperature is Very hot on summers and OK on winters (minimum is 9ºC) that makes it a city where people buy a lot of 125cc scooters to go to work or move around the city.

Slowly turning the bike into more of a scrambler. New motocross handlebars and knobby tires.

Very similar situation here in the SF Bay area. Hot summers, warm winters, surrounded by mountains. (Don't get me started on housing prices.) Although, US reliance on the highway system pushes a lot of people into the 175-200cc range. Speaking of which, my wife just picked up a 2005 Vespa with a 198cc engine. I'm still sticking with motorcycles, but I was very pleased with how these things ride.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

Had the pleasure to visit San Francisco in 2008 or so, and it's a very nice city.

In my city the most popular bikes:

Honda SH 125 ( 5/10 bikes are this model)

Suzuki Burgman 125cc

Honda Scoopy 50cc/ 75cc (Before the SH came out, everybody had this scooter mainly beacuse it was cheap and reliable)

Yamaha T max (Not a single Tmax has the stock exhaust most have Akrapovic installed)

Yamaha X max

Kwasaki Naked bikes.

Most people who are bikers and live in barcelona have two bikes. The one they drive for fun on weekends (naked / sportbikes 650-1000cc) and then a more "confortable" bike to go to work (125cc scooter or something not bigger than 400cc like a x max)

I rode my buddy's R6 the other day, and holy sh*t I was terrified. That thing is a beast. Just thinking about touching the throttle makes the thing take off. It doesn't help that the riding position is so craned forward compared to my 250. It was a completely different feeling trying to shift my weight when I wasn't sitting upright. I think I'll be ok with my 250 for now, I'm not too keen on rushing into anything bigger yet lol. And when I do, I'll be a lot more comfortable with something more upright.

Update on my Ninja:

I've procured a new headlight, but being the idiot I am, ordered one with fork clamps that are too big (my forks are 36mm). I bought a Trail Tech computer, and some stick on LED turn signals in case I want to put something more permanent on in the future (which I probably will). Until I get the headlight attached, I can't really do anything with the computer or signals. However, I have gotten rid of the ugly ass bunny ears it had before. They didn't look bad when I had the fairings on, but they stick out really bad without it. Replaced with a pair of decent bar end mirrors.

When you replace standard turn signals with incandescent bulbs to LED ones there is problem with the flasher unit. They will either flash too fast or not at all. To fix this you need to add a resistor to trick the flasher so it thinks it is getting the normal voltage. You can buy resistors from online electronics stores or Radio Shack if there is one still near you or there are ready made ones for motorcycles.

Bike is looking better. A headlight surround from a Suzuki DR650 or DRZ400 might look good and fit your rectangle headlight.

I'm replacing it with an over/under projector light. I've already taken this one off and tested the new one and it works, I'm just waiting on the fork clamps to attach it, because the clamps that came with it were too big for my forks.

You definitely sit more "on" an R6 than you do "in" it. The aggressive riding position makes it perfect for track riding.

I suggest you get some seat time on an '07-current cbr600rr. The riding position is far more comfortable for street riding. Like all 600 supersports, has a twitchy throttle compared to your 250. If/when you jump to a 1000, you'll have another jump on a throttle learning curve. That part you honestly shouldn't sweat. In a couple weeks or so, you'll associate the throttle with your intimidation less, and your smile more. ;)

I was talking about my experience with one of my coworkers and she was like "It can't be that bad." I asked her what car she drove, and she said she drove a Honda Fit. I told her that bike weighs less than 300 lbs and made more horsepower than her car when it was stock (it has had a lot of custom work done to it) and that definitely put it in perspective lol.

I'm strongly looking toward either the Ninja 650 or Z800 as my next bike. Or a decently priced Grom.

I went to the Brickyard 400 last weekend, and there were all kinds of scooters around the infield used by track workers to get around. Amongst those scooters were two Groms (which I'd never seen in person) and I immediately ran over and sat on one and I fell in love lol. They look like SO MUCH FUN I wannit I wannit I wannit.

Lmao!!! Yeah, that Grom looks like massive fun. If I were an inner city dweller, that'd be on the short list. And a lot of the moto trackday junkies use them for runs to the trailer and trackside, like you saw at at the Brick. :)

That analogy you made to your coworker is so true!

That Z800 looks sick!! I like the aesthetics more than the FZ07 or the newly redesigned SV650. Very cool bike. :)

Here's some from a camping trip a week ago in Vermont.

IMG_1070-L.jpg

IMG_1048-XL.jpg

Sheared the skid plate off on rocks so it finished the trip like this. Since it has no frame rails that go under the engine the skid plate bolts directly to the bottom of the engine. It uses rubber isolation studs to mount because if it was a hard mount the impacts would be transferred right into the case, not good! The rubber studs shear if the impact id hard enough and I carry a few spares but not 4. This skid plate has always done the job but I will be upgrading to a better one soon.

I've never been a fan of GSXRs, but this new 1000 has a lot more seriousness in it to me.

Found a V65 Sabre near me for sale.

$3000, 6510 miles

It had a lot of dirt on it from puddle splashes on the side of the road, but from what wasn't splashed, it looked very clean. The only thing wrong was that the rear tire was a little cracked. Assuming the only thing that needs work is the tire and maybe fluids, would $3000 be a good deal? It's 30 years old, but it's a pretty high end bike nonetheless.

That's the winningest thing in this entire thread! :)

Love the black with grey stripe on the gas tank. Very cool.

Yes, too much. Right now $3,000 will get you wayyyyy more bike being that winter is about to roll around. Check out cycletrader and you'll see how much further you can go. $3,000 is substantial right now.

That said, if you love the bike more than anything else, what I'm saying is moot. ;)

First of all - I dont know sh*t about bikes. However i really do like bikes, always did. I almost love bikes as much as i love cars. Im getting my motorcycle driver license soon, but what is a good starters bike? Im into bikes like the Ducati Hypermotard and Streetfighter, KTM Superduke R, pretty much that type of bikes with exposed frames and engine block (not sure what they are called). What about getting one of these for a first bike? Something like a supermoto maybe.

I pretty much want something thats lightweight yet has decent amount of power (obviously not as fast as a R1 or so).

Any answers/suggestions etc are welcome.

If you like nakeds and street fighters, and already drive, then I'd recommend something like a Suzuki SV650 or Gladius. Really docile, but nice torquey v-twin engine. They feel faster than they are, but you're much less likely to come unstuck than with high revving, torquless, frantic 600 inlines.

No, i dont drive yet. Soon im signing up for driving lessons though (waiting for better weather). I do want something that has torque in lower revs and gears, i should look for a two stroke, i guess. The ones you described do fall under what im looking for, i sure am gonna do more research about them.

But what about a Ducati Hypermotard? I really like the looks of it. Is there a version of that bike you would recommend for a first bike, since there are many with different CC' and HP. I have seen 1100CC 90HP ones, im not sure if thats "too much" for a first bike or just perfect.

Like i said - doesnt have to be the fastest bike out there. I just want to have fun when driving, something thats not heavy in corners etc. Something that i can use in city traffic with ease. I know you already recommended such a bike, but i would love to see other bikes too with the same specs.

Sorry for the many (dumb) questions, but i really want to learn more about bikes before buying one myself. Maybe i should first take driving lessons and see from there what i really want...

For a starter bike that is light and torquey, any street legal dual-sport is a good choice. Honda CRF250L, Kawasaki KLX250, Yamaha WR250R, Suzuki DRZ400. If you want something more like a starter Hypermotard have a look at a supermoto like the Yamaha WR250X or Suzuki DRZ400SM. The Japanese brands are more reliable, parts cheaper and dealers more plentiful tha exotics like Ducati, KTM and Husqvarna. Ducati really is the Ferrari do motorcycles in many more ways than just being red. Pick up a used Japanese bike and you'll save not just on purchase price but also cost of ownership and insurance. Plus you need money for helmet, jacket, pants, boots and gloves. Motorcycle gear can turn even a small accident from a trip to the hospital to just minor bruises.

Not to mention, the above light 250s, 400s and the 650 I suggested are all much, much cheaper. Everyone drops their first bike, usually several times, and I'd be much less upset doing that with a couple of grand's worth of second hand mainstream bike rather than £10k of Ducatti.

Am I the only one that thinks that the old Suzuki livery is better than the new one?

I mean, if i ever buy myself a new GSX-R 750cc Suzuki, i am definitely going to make it look like this color wise:

Yeah, if this is your first time riding a bike, I too suggest going for a cheap japanese used bike; and later down the road, when you have more confidence and practice riding, upgrade to an higher CC and more expensive bike. That's what I plan to do at least.
