sonyack
So I get the military jet and manage to get it off the ship and am trying to cope, in all my klutziness, with learning to fly the dang thing and head for the blips and there are jets I am supposed to down. So I just head for the blips and one of the jets goes down and then another, so I keep it up and another goes down and then after awhile another. Strange, I think, but I'll take it. But I accidentally crash the jet I'm in, and have to repeat the mission, and on this repeat I find out the truth: I was flying around the edge of Area 69, and it shot down all the jets following me and not me because I was at the edge and floundering around, causing the persuers to fly over the restricted area and get shot while I bumbled around LOL. 51L3N7 4554551N
Good tactic. Must try this out next time. Mind you my persuers always crash into the bridge or into the water when i fly too low. So much for the military....
Kremit
I'm not entirely sure if Area 69 will shoot at anyone but yourself. I remember one mission I had to chase a Maverick in another Maverick. He flew over the area first, I followed... I was the only one to be shot at.

***GTA***
I'm not entirely sure if Area 69 will shoot at anyone but yourself. I remember one mission I had to chase a Maverick in another Maverick. He flew over the area first, I followed... I was the only one to be shot at. I was worried about flying over that area in that maverick mission, so I did it quickly and the SAM's didn't touch me. PS: Why do the FBI in that mission have AK47's? That's just stupid. In mission Misappropriation, you don't have to chase maverick at all. I never did, its just waist of time. What I did is get myself a Jet and a rocket launcher or RPG and went to that rock where you have to kill an agent and steal dossier. I found a good place where FBI cannot see me but I can see an agent. Then I simply launche a rocket in to the agent and what a surpise, agent is dead and mission passed. The only thing that left to do is to pick up a dossier. Time saved . I used Jet because its much easier to get to the location I was worried about flying over that area in that maverick mission, so I did it quickly and the SAM's didn't touch me. Great strategy, sure makes this mission much easier. Edited August 3, 2005 by ***GTA***
sonyack
So far I have had to do this mission 4 times, as I am a klutz at getting the jet to move right, and each time I just hung around the bridge area and waited and all the persuers got wiped out. My problem here is clumsiness at getting the dang jet to hover and shoot the ships. It always drifts off or I crash it or I don't switch between hover and and forward fast enough. Maybe I should forget about hovering and shooting, and try driving it, locking on, and firing. For sure, I'll mess that up too, but it might work better for me. There are many missions that You can do so easily without that chasing-hassle and breaking Your keyboard. Another similar mission is the one You kill Tenpenny´s partner (too drunk to remember name!) I always try to find different solutions for missions.
Doctor_hv
In Misappropriation (if that's the one where you get the files from FBI), I simply used Jetpack and came on hill above them, then sneaked to the buildings and started shooting at the marked agent, and after killing them all, I just took files and went... (I think that I couldn't use Maverick, but not sure, twas a lon time ago), now I hear for the first time about chasing... wierd
Airborne
Not play Vertical Bird yet, but I'll take this advice! About Misappropriation, I took a Hunter, hovered around and fired rockets. The FBIs were wiped out just in a minute and the Maverick was wrecked before it could takeoff.

When you get to the ships aim your thrusters back down to hover in the one spot. (if you can't stop your forward momentum just lean back and press thrust - after a while you will stop in one spot) Then hold lock on (space on the PC) and lean forward and fire about two or three missiles. Then lean back up and again and just wait. The missiles will find the boat and it will catch on fire, followed by the explosion. Then just use the rudder to rotate around (don't bank) and repeat for the other boats.
