teh roxxors
You probably need God's own computer to play this thing maxed out. I can't go over 1024x768, and don't use anti-aliasing: • Intel P4 3.06GHz 533MHz FSB @ 3.4GHz • ASUS P4PE (using onboard sound) • 1Gb DDR333 PC2700 RAM @ 370MHz • ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128Mb (364/341) • Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 • DirectX 9.0c • Catalyst 5.6 Now, I'm picky about frame rates. Sure, I could play at 1600x1200, but some areas cause slide-show frame rates I can't handle.
bogal
yeah i got a similar system but think my graphics card (GeForce MX 440 128mb) is letting it down... can't get above 800x600x16 without the game becoming jerky and slower - anyone running this with a 256mb/512mb card that can say how much difference it makes? GTA3Freak-2001
In a perfect game I could probably tell you what would run the game perfectly at max settings, as shown people who have PC's that you'd expect to be able to max everything out and play well at the same time simply don't. Some get good results while others don't, it seems to be the game coupled with certain hardware.
Rogue
I run it at all max settings except for the res is 1280*1024 because that is the max for my monitor. Vercetti04/05
I run at max on 1280xwateva specs are as follows: Abit max3 mobo 1GB Corsair 3200LL 120 WD hard drive Powercolor X800Pro 2.8 P4 with ht all anistropic and AA settings set to max in control panel and in game runs smooth as, although it does get choppy on 1600x1200
doogle
I've got everything maxed at 1600*1200 and it runs smooth as silk on my PC, except when I went into the burning building to rescure Denise, then it chugged a little due to all the particle effects. I play at 1600x1200 and I have the game settings at 'Very High' My gfx card settings are: 4xAA, 16xAF, High Quality, and I average 50-80fps. (At 8xAA, my framerate is 30~40 average, but can drop to 10~15 with explosions etc, so I leave it at 4xAA) To play at max settings, I'd say you'll need a 3Ghz+ cpu, 1Gb ram, 6800/X800, and an Audigy 2 (or equivalent). Are you using the latest Catalyst Control Center to run those specs? I am currently using an X800 XL 256MB PCI-E and 1 Gig of Kingston RAM, and my aliasing settings will not go above "3x" in-game. I am guessing that you are, because that is the only way to turn on "AF" for San Andreas.

maelstrom
I ran fraps with all options max, 1152x864 (monitor limited) & frame limiter on - was a solid 25 fps with explosions and all. sounds low but it is very smooth gameplay. specs are 3400 / 1gb / BFG6800GT
Mike0
I'm running pretty well at 1280x1024:P4 3.4 ghz 1gb ram Radeon X800XL Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Omega Drivers 2.6.53 It drops to about 20 at the lowest here or there, hopefully I'll remedy that when I overclock it but right now it's too hot in DC to overclock my card safely. so this like high end machine!!,and u reach 20fps!!!OMG man if i were u i would have killed my self...after killing the people who ported the game to the pc To the man who was laughing at 20 FPS. You just don't get it. The game is meant to be played at 25 FPS with the frame limiter on. It ewen says in the readme that you should put the frame limiter on. If you turn it of, you get higher than 25 FPS, but it slows down when exploding stuff and so on. So it is adwised that you put the frame limiter ON. This game is not made to play at high frame rates, but at 25. So deal with it. Some people just don't get it. So, ultimately: I think even if you had the strongest PC in the world, with dual 7800 GTX, if you turned the frame limiter on, it would be as high as 25, and would even drop to 20 from time to time. And if you turned it OFF, it would sometimes drop to wery low. That's the way this game is made. And what's teh fuss with the framerates. 20 is fine with me. If 25 FPS is fine with Rockstar Games, it can't be wrong. So if you want "high framerates", turn the FPS limiter OFF, but don't cry when it drops below 25. If someone doesnt like the FPS sistem, then go play something else.
Lagoon Bug
To me avoiding slow-down and lag is more important than a high frame rate. I'll type my computer specs and you can tell me what you think since I'm still new to this. I have GTA: SA for the PC. Dell, Dimension 4700 series, P4 Processor 520 w/ HT Technology (2.8 GHz), 16V3871 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM at 400 MHz 128MB PCI Express x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X300 SE 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2 Intel Pro 100M Integrated PCI NIC Card(not sure what this is) 16X DVD ROM and 48X CDRW For me GTA SA does have some slow down but I've managed to avoid some. I started out with the advanced display settings maxed on the resolution. Didn't work out well. I'm not sure what it's on now, but I'm adjusting it now and then. I guess it looks alright, but the frame rate gets choppy. Some slowdown and delay, as when a sound effect happens right before the action.(I hear CJ's punch to the driver before seeing it when carjacking) I may upgrade the RAM if it will make the game work better. Should that do it? Is there anything else I should upgrade? I'm looking for affordability but I'm not broke. If this computer has anything that "sucks" I don't mind anyone saying so. GTA3Freak-2001
Its not that bad, sure doubling that RAM would be good for gaming in general although for me SA still runs pretty odinary even when I doubled my ram 512 to 1024 still made my other games run better. Smellton
Ok, n00b question here but what does anti-alising actually do? Does it improve graphics? I thought it helped smooth transitions of textures, but I'm not sure.

I thought it helped smooth transitions of textures, but I'm not sure. It removes jaggies on all 3D surfaces giving the game a smooother look, only problem is it cuts your performance down quite a bit depending on your specs.
