ivo__
Hi all! I have a hardware question because I have troubles running that game on my PC at home. I got yesterday an MSI 865PE Socket478 motherboard and a PNY GeForce 6600 128MB AGP graphics card. I have a DDR333 1GB RAM but the problem is my old Celeron 2,4 GHz processor. Yes, the game runs, but even at 640x480 it doesn't run smoothly (playable but still annoying). Now, I wanna be able to play the game at 800x600 with decent detail and draw distance(is that too much to ask?) and my question is if spending another 189 ˆ and getting a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz Prescott is worth it? Or is the game running slow because of the graphic card (still, GF 6600 ought to be enough for normal 800x600 playing)... Ivo, Austria
Antropophagus
You should be able to play with better settings. Your problem lies somewhere else, even You have Celeron. Is your computer in good condition, defragmented etc? What is the amount of Your Virtual memory? Is Your registry clean? What drivers You have? Here are some good drivers -> http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=2 <-. Also GTA SA Fps is set at 25, Disable framerate limiter in display settings and use Fraps to benchmark Your FPS. If You have read posts there are people with worst hardware than You have and they run game at satisfactory level. And GF 6600 is a good card. My system: ASUS A7V8X-X Mobo Geforce 6600 128 MB using NGO Nvidia optimized driver v.1.7772 1 GB DDR 333 Ram AMD 3000XP running at 2,2 Ghz GameSettings AntiAliasing x2-x4 Anisotropic x8 1280X1024X32 FrameLimiter usually on Draw Distance 10x distanceMod Fraps 5 minute gaming bencmark average 42 FPS Edited August 3, 2005 by Antropophagus
GTA3Freak-2001
Nah that should be fine to get good performance, you may just be one of the people like me who get bad performance even though I half surpass/ meet the requirements. I upgraded my 512MB RAM to 1024 MB which you'd think would warrante at least some huge frame-rate boost but no all I've got is a slightly more playable game. At fist I blamed my FX5700 but other games have given me decent enhancement. A 6600 even though not a GT is still a very good card so I put blame to the game more then anything. I've seen much higher spec PC's lag in certain parts of the game so its known that the game is either a hog or just badly programmed and coded.
