Thoughts On The Police System

Don't get me wrong, the San Andreas police system is very cool, but I find the police system to be less as satisfying as that in Vice City.

Recently playing Vice City I found the police system to be more vicious than that of San Andreas. The police vehicles ram your vehicle harder, have more methods of stopping you and in some cases offer a more "actioness" pursuit. I realize the cops in the Cheetahs were an aspect found in the show Miami Vice but it is still a nice touch which, I think, should have been passed on to San Andreas. When I first played San Andreas I realized there were no spike strips. Now that is a method all police use and I find it to be shocking that it was not passed on to San Andreas.

Road blocks are better in San Andreas. I noticed more police vehicles are at the road block than in Vice City. The spotlight on police helicopters has been improved greatly in San Andreas. The news helicopters and multiple police helicopters also add a nice effect. Also, the police helicopters are not as easy to get rid of in San Andreas by just hiding under a building. I also believe the San Andreas police AI is a little better than that of Vice City

Overall the San Andreas police system is very cool. Though, Vice City's police system had some cooler methods. I believe Rockstar could have worked harder on the police system for San Andreas.

We could only imagine what the next generation GTA game could have, a toggle between the GTA: SA and more realistic (speeding, running red lights, etc) police mode.

I agree that the police system in SA doe's seem more intelligent and is. But there are some aspects from VC that would have been nice.

Spike strips for one. I think r* were planning on putting them into the game but took them out for the disc space.

Also i like the fact that in vc you cannot shoot a helicopter down with a ak but in real life you could and so can you in SA it makes it a bit more realistic.

We can only imagine what the next one is going to be like.

I actually find the police a bit more vicious in SA, simply because in VC you can run away *faster*!! You are right in that in VC they RAM a lot harder. In SA they seem to try to block your path more than anything.

But holy hell do I miss the spike strips angry.gif

Nothing more fun than driving a Taxi full bore in VC with four blown tires and five stars and hitting the old jump at the time of impact!

Also, I have yet to see "Supercop" (I call him Miller) in SA. You know the one from VC that can run double-speed biggrin.gif

I've seen him once, but this time it was quadruple speed, he was on his bike way infront of me, then he just zoomed into my car, didn't know what happened but then there was that busted title in big white letters.

Anyways, what about the one star thing in SA? They shoot you at one star, in VC, they would just chase you on foot, and maybe one squad car.

And if they do go realistic with the crime things, they should avoid all the ways that Driver 2 put it out, I mean, if you when a tad faster then the traffic, they chased you.

I love the fuzz in Vice City. Thgey have a sort of Miami feel to them, which is right enough. San Andreas cops look very simular to those GTA III in terms of outfit and style. I personally like the FBI (5 star) and it's clever methods of ramming me off the road. Overall, San An is better.

My view is that the cops on SA are more determined at some points but alot more realistic because there are times on VC where the cops seem "God-like". They tend to be freakin psycho robo police with only 2 stars. At least on SA you get to 4 stars before its just unbearable.

Thats why Vice City is so much safer.

Liberty City is very dangerous because the cops don't do their job as well.

SA cops are I guess less hardcore because of maybe less crime in San Andreas?

In the other games, you couldn't just lose wanted levels, yo uhad to pay and spray or find a police bribe but it this game, if you stand in the middle of the desert, you can lose all your wanted levels!"BtC"

It would've been cool too if there was an option in the game to set the "sensitivity" of the cops in relation to Cj's behavior. Like arming CJ would be enough for him to earn 1 star and be accosted if he happens to pass by a cop. That would be more realistic in a sense. It's kind of silly really seeing him carrying a heavy weapon and bumping into a cop and all the cop would do is to say some threatening words. sarcasm.gif

Are you guys serious? As it is i find the San Andreas PD must have at least 300,000 employee's...In Los Santos alone.

Every street corner, police. Every road, police.

Vagos shoot at my car, thats cool says officer friendly....I shoot back, the cops are suddenly after me. I find that annoying. I can only imagine the fun with a threeway shootout between two gangs and the Police. Instead, it is a one way street.

With Cops on every street.

As for speeding, don't even go there...it will turn the game into a boring pos. Leave that aspect the way it is i believe. Especially if your the only one the cops will take an interest in. Imagine trying to drive places, all the time, at normal speed? Lets not let reality get in the way of good gaming.

I do agree about the Road spikes though. Strange they were not present.

I love the sniper rifle 1-shot shootdown on the heli's.

I miss the spikestrips. It would be fun to arm the next main cat with them and lay them down on the freeway, watch and lmmfao.

I think it is hilarious when a cop gets scared and runs away.

I hate the narc that will call you in and just keep on walking. He's the first one I brutally murder.

I do miss the cheetah cops. DPS here in the states have Cameros and Mustangs, so it wouldn't be out of the question to have a fast car with red and blues on top. Since it's probably not going to be US based...

Police bikes are also a nice touch and realistic. But I still do think Rockstar could have done more to the police system in San Andreas. What really makes it more "actioness" would be your gang members shooting at the cops in pursuit.

morto the sane

Yeah, I miss the spike strips and Crockett and Tubbs (the Cheetah cops)...

What I don't like is the police AI. Usually it's pretty good, but there was this one time that I was trucking along northbound near the intersection at the Gant Bridge in San Fierro. I was moving along at a fairly slow speed in the right lane (I had Katie in the car at the time - anyone notice how the actress yells for more speed when the game tells you that you're driving her too fast?), and suddenly a cop car in the left lane makes a right hand turn and cuts me off. I clipped the bugger and ended up with a wanted rating. The cop was driving along normally (no sirens, no high-speed pursuit), then made what would be (IRL) an illegal turn. I think it's a problem with the paths file (that's what it's called, right?) - I've seen a couple of other vehicles do that too...

They only shoot at you if you pull out a gun. Gifts, equipment, and melee weapons are ok. Chainsaws don't seem to make them pull out a gun on you... whatsthat.gif

The stingers were in the Puncture Wounds mission which was pretty fun just to set one of them on the freeway and watch cars pop their tires.

If police were to chase you just because you ran through a red light or passed the speed limit, the game would go much slower. You'd have to obey every law. You would have to slowly go from city to city unless you want a cop on you. I sometimes enjoy teasing the cops but if R* made them too strong, it'd be impossible to beat the game.

Good idea. Different levels with different characteristics. Like if you wanna start snooping round with a knife doing Splinter Cell you shouldn't get as much than if you did rampages through Los Santos.
