Display problems or somethin' else?

I'm on a Dell using Win XP (pro version)-

*Intel P4 2.40 GHz

*2.39 Ghz, 1.00 GB Ram

 

I"m using Direct X (loaded from the install at beginning of game).

 

I think my system meets the running requirements, don't I? So why is my display having problems? I played around and reset the pixels both up and down, which didn't make a difference in the problem I"m encountering.

 

I have video corruption anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes into the game (I can play it fine 'til it crashes!) Sometimes the display is clean, and sometimes it looks as if my character is standing three feet underground. There are also times when I am driving down the road and suddenly the game gets all chunky and the graphics give way to these huge geometrical shapes. While this is happening, I still can read the map and weapon status. The rest of the screen is not affected. To fix the problem I go into the game settings and toggle on/off the frame limiter. This is getting tiring, though, as I have to stop all the action to toggle that switch. I also adjusted the draw distance but the screen is kinda wavy- looks like I'm underwater, so I try to leave that alone.

 

I'm no good with computers, can any of you whizkids help me? Sorry if this is a commonly discussed problem, but I didn't have time to read all those postings! Also sorry if I'm just completely ignorant and my system is simply not compatible with this game. I've played all the GTA'S with no problems 'til now on this very system.

Do you have any idea what video card you have? Regardless have you made sure you've got the latest drivers for whatever video card you have?

I have Dell 3.06GHz 512MB RAM

with 128MB NVIDIA Gforce FX card

 

and give me a the same problem but I can't even start the game before it start having this problem just the intro does that

It's ghosting effects. Your video card is overheating from the game... My friend had the same problem, and when he set the color settings from 32-bit to 16-bit, he never saw it again. Unfortunately, he has to deal with crappy coloring...
