2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP

I thought I'd give modelling a shot and post a screen of what I have so far. It isn't much but any feed back is appreciated just the same. Since I'm new to this its taking me a while and I have to dig up a lot of tutorials. BTW if anyone has a link to a good texturing tut especially if its for ZMod2 I'd appreciate that a lot.

Anyway the picture is what you guys really want so . . .

More to come later

Cheers.

I'd rather hear what you make of the whole escapade so far, but a picture is also helpful.

You're doing far, far better than most so far. Keep going, and keep observing, and never be afraid to use multiple references, as many angles as possible to hand will make the car far easier to model cleanly and accurately.

Keep going is the key thing right now, maybe check that lower vent rim, probably is just that shape, I dunno either way.

Damn, can't wait for more.

As everyone else said, you're doing better than most. I'm not sure if I'm in the position where I can even talk (I've got a full exterior of an Audi TT, but I'm lost on starting an interior...), but from what I've seen (which is a lot, so far), you're definitely above most of the modelling newbs out there.

Such a horrible car in real life, euch!

Model's looking okay so far, but the poly placement/structure is a bit dodgy around the top of the headlight gap...

clearly you have no taste what soever, I think this car is beautiful, as much as I hate GM most new pontiacs are sexy looking, such as the new bonniville wink.gif the 2k5 model gtp is sick! I think its a GTP or SSR not sure but its just a sweet car smile.gif

so far so good on the model also, looks like a nice clean mesh and good use of polys. great start zeek smile.gif hope to see more progress soon! cuz I do love this car and no ones paid much attention to newer pontiacs in terms of modeling only old muscle pontiacs, i'd like to see a G6 or an older model GRAND AM possibly 2002 gt smile.gif but anyways good luck! hope you get this bad boy finished!

Though Very good start on the model, especially sense your working in Z-mod2

Meh, American cars look flimsy and unfinished...

+pink+

sounds strange knowing your creating an american car for SA

you obviously are only referring to NEW american cars?

your right though id MUCH prefer to see some of the British GM vehicles such as the Vauxhall line up - imagine a Vectra and Astra in GTA SA - mmmmmmm nice - me being sarcastic

I rode in one of these for the first time a couple cays ago, they're pretty nice and the back seats are like buckets-which was kind of weird in such a large car. I can't really give any input on how the model looks because I can't even figure out how to use zmodler or 3DS, so you're already doing a lot better than I would, but it looks like the right car so far turn.gif .

I think this is the type of car that is lacking in the GTA community and I'm glad to see someone making it: a modern American sedan (or for that matter, semi-modern. Chrysler did make cars in the 90s, didn't they?) that isn't a cadillac. We already have BMWs and Mercedes (speaking of British cars, where are all the Jags?) coming out the ear, and in how many ways can someone make a Subaru Impreza WRX. It's great that we have all of these performance, muscle, luxury and import sport cars, but little old ladies and men generally don't drive Supras and it takes away from the game a little of the realism (imho). Granted, it would be nice to see some basic bread-and-butter Japanese cars as well (a non-racer Accord or Camry) but just some cars to blend into the scenery.

So are most Nissans, that's why their interiors are utter crap and filled with too much plastic. And one of out three toyota's or so are based on the Camry platform that dates all the way back to 1989. No wonder why they are so relibable, it is because they've been using the same platforms for ever! I mean, even the Crown Vic has been updated more than that Camry! Atleast it got an all new frame in 2003!

Thougth the Bonneville is old, outdated, and using a FWD configuration with a V8 which isn't that terribly brilliant. I'm still glad you are making it, we can use some Grand Prixs too just because there are soo many of them in real life and maybe a 94 Taurus just for sake of it. Then again, the Nissan Altima is FWD with a 3.5 V6 but that car does have lots of torque steer too. FWD and lots of power = a bad combination.

I've redone the fenders so that the polys are a little cleaner this time around. I'm making progress on it, but its kinda slow since I'm still digging through old, out-dated tutorials meant for ZMod Ver. 1. I'm having a blast though, this is the kind of work that I love doing. Right now I have no plans to model the engine. I'd probably just use too many polys on it anyway tounge.gif Also does anyone know of a tut for adding the head/tail lights? I know modellers each have their own way of doing em. GreenGiant's 300C has dimmer tail lights but they're brighter at night while depressing the brake. Ruslev has figured out how to work the lights in SA perfectly and has even got the running lights on his Rolls Royce lighting up at night . . . and I haven't the first clue on how to do it. confused.gif

Anyway I should be able to add to some of what was said here wink.gif

1. Why a Bonneville?

Its my personal car, a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SE.

2. American cars suck.

Yeah, some do, some are actually quite nice. Not everyone can afford expensive imports, so we are forced to settle for domestic autos. I would however like to see Holden come over here . . . with their own name. [/blatant attack on GTO]

3. Bonnevilles are ugly in real life.

2000-2004 SE/SSE/SSEi yeah, but in 2005, Bonneville's last year of production, Pontiac finally removed the God aweful plastic side panels from the doors and fenders as well as ditched the horrid front bumper/grille combo for SLE and GXP.

4. Granny car.

Yup. But you'd be suprised what they do when you drive 'em to their full ability. The 3800 series engine was used not only in Bonneville but also in Grand Prix, Impala, Monte Carlo, and anything else GM could stuff it into. GXP is the first Bonnevile since 1991 NOT to use the 3800 series engine.

5. Front wheel drive isn't the best decision for a V8.

GM is cheap and didn't want to rework the whole Bonneville platform for the N* since it was the first V8 used in the Bonneville. Need proof GM is cheap? '05 GTO. What more can I say?

How's the 05' GTO cheap? Inexpensive yes, cheaply done, hell no. And there are plenty of horrible Japanese cars too like Suzukis, older Nissans, the 95-01 FWD V6 automatic Hondas, Isuzus, and Mazdas aren't terribley reilable. Yeah GM has made a lot of poorer cars in the eariler 90s and in the 80's but you can't walk up to a new Cobalt or a G6 and honselty say they suck. They are equal to if not better than their Asian competitors. The Taurus for the most part was a pretty good car too during its life time. Don't believe everything you read in Consumer Reports, they are a bunch of Hondaphites. Anyway, post some more work on the model, it is looking good.

Looks good but the overall design is terrible. The interior looks like cheap sh*t and I can barele look outside if I sit in the backseats. Yes, the new G6 and Cobalt is an exception but ive found alot of american cars to be unreliable and not very passanger friendly. I would choose the old bonneville over the new one any day. Anyways, any more progress?

They add some SA taillight/headlight textures from the SA textures, and it works somehow. Yes, Holden was doing something about going global you know tounge.gif

Forelli_Boy

Not many people making plain ordinary cars around here. smile.gif Keep up the good work.

If I remember correctly though, the Sunrise is based off a Bonneville. Far as I know it's the only car with the cab so horrifically close to the rear wheels. XD

confused.gif You sure about that one? The Sunrise looks more like a '94 Honda Accord to me.

Edit: I found this link, Car Names list, they list the sunrise as based off a late '80s Honda. He has a lot of errors though, the Intruder listed as '91 Chevy Lumina. I'd believe a late 80s Mercury Sable/Ford Taurus more. Hes got Stratum listed as Holden Commodore wagon, I'm thinking Accord wagon, and Solair as '92 Honda Accord, I'm gonna call it a Caprice wagon. Tahoma could be a Bonneville Brougham, but thats all that really resembles it to me.

Wow, you sure do know your cars, they're German...

Nissan = win. It's very simple, they have put a lot of effort into engineering... American cars are still using the same engines they were in the 70s, it's shocking really...

And yeah, I'd much prefer an Astra to a sh*tty modern American car, especially the Astra VXR, which puts out just as much horsepower and a Ferrari 308... Also European companies (as well as Japanese really) can make a car which doesn't weigh 2 or 3 tonnes... (Obviously the bigger cars like Bentley's are, but they do 208mph, so they win too...)

Model's looking good, just don't get lost with the normals...

Um, if you're referring to the Lincoln Continental you're making it's an American car...watch a couple episodes of "Green Acres" if you need proof, or refer to the Kennedy Assassination. They very well may have sold them in Germany as well as other countries but it is an American design and a nameplate that dates back to 1940.

I think he was referring to Vauxhalls as being German, which they aren't. Germany's division of GM is Opel, not Vauxhall. That's my knowledge of it anyway.

JJHW - Vauxhall being German - what you on about mate?

Digitally insane is correct Opel is the euro counterpart. Anywya whether im right or wrong - im sure your sad ass will google any answer to satiate your morbid curiosity, i was actually referring to Vauxhall cars due to the fact they exist in the UK where your from, i was not referring to their origin or ownership, dont assume it makes an ass out of u and i - as the saying goes. Also whats the use of having a astra with all that horsepower? where are you going to use it? On some Crawley roundabout? Staines perhaps? To pre-empt your response, by the same token whats the point of a Ferrari with all that power - none, but hell it sure looks nicer than an astra !! Im sorry i may be insulting a professional racing driver like yourself but on the streets of the UK, where radars and cameras line every road and street id go for style over power.

Lastly - why make that American car only to go and slate american cars and not even put it in the game - a sad waste of time mate - havent you got anything better to do?

peace out

WTF are you talking about? The only engine that's currently in use that dates that far back is the 3800 series V6 and that's it. Moron. The Northstar V8, the newer LS series V8s, the Vortech series, the Ford Modular V8 series, the Duratech motors, all thoose engines's routes start in the 90's. Talk about missinformed.
