San Fiero shoot down chopper mission

Hi guys,

 

Wonder if anyone can give me a few pointers. I am currently stuck on one of the San Fiero missions from Carl's garage. It's the one where you have to go to the helipad at the police station in the downtown district to catch a guy before he escapes. I think his name is Toreno, tho I don't want to both checking this out unless I have to.

 

Anyway, it's scripted that the heli takes off when you get halfway up the stairs. Then you have to grab the rocket launcher off the top of the helipad and follow the helicopter to shoot him down. The problem is that I find it virtually impossible even to keep up with him, let alone pass him by enough to have the time to stop, get off / out of my vehicle and aim before he flies past me again.

 

Also, it seems that when he reaches the end of the SF freeway he takes allsorts of shortcuts that a car or a bike simply can't follow him up (what with hills / cliffs. etc). Once I made it to some farm where he unleashes an ambush on you, and then it failed me the mission just for fighting back, because in the time it took me to fire two shots he had supposedly got out of range.

 

Do I have to go this far and beyond to finally get the guy? or is it possible to take him out before this stage? I have tried blowing up the chopper on the helipad from a distance, and that doesn't seem to work either...

Well you know what needs to be done .. .so the problem is in the execution.

 

Here's what I do, jump on the Bike and get on the highway there's an on-ramp close by. Speed to about half way and wait for the Heli to approach Fire the Rocket-Launcher ... get back on the bike and race to the end of the highway. The Heli will arrive and hover there for a while just keep shooting. Next the heli will stop near the bridge so you can take the shortcut over the meadow to get there.

 

So in short the Heli keeps stopping and hovers for a while, take advantage of that.

Grab the rocket launcher. Jump on the bike. Go down the highway in front of the heli. Stop. Get off. Aim rocket launcher. Fire. Mission passed.

It is much easier if you have Heat Seeking Missile. Just lock and fire! That's it.

 

There is one inside San Fierro Airport. You cannot enter NORMALLY at this point since you don't have pilot license yet. Park a car in front of the gate. Jump on it and then jump on the roof of the guard room and you are now inside the airport!

The heat-seaking rocket launcher idea sounds like a class one. The only problem is that when I get to the helipad, I have to pick up the ordinary RL, before it will show me on the radar where the chopper is and ask me to follow it. This replaces the heat-seaking version. Is there a solution???

Well you can just ignore the RPG and head straight towards the the freeway. The only problem is the position of the heli wont be shown on the hud. But you can follow the freeway towards south for a few seconds and you will see the heli. Drive up a bit ahead of it, take your heat- seeking RPG and blow it out of the sky.

Ok, thanks for all your help guys. Nailed the bastard, and now I've made it to the Las Venturas side of the river / story.

Ahhaaa... Glad you make it! When I went for the mission, I was fast enough to nailed it before the heli made the first corner.

I did it by driving up to the spray n' paint to get rid of the stars - get on the highway and drive to the end (I could never hit the damn thing when it moved) and wait for the heli to catch up. It hovers there for at least 10 seconds, so it's easy to take it out.

You can shoot it down with an M4 if you stop at some of the exits and turn around and shoot. Also, at the end of the highway, Toreno turns aroud to kick some ass, that is when you can hit him with like an RPG. I still has some left over from Are You Going To San Fierro?
