GTA-3-beta
Hello I'm making motorbike tires in Zmodeler 1.7b. But when I'm going to place the torus to the right in the UV mapper window, it is not the torus I have made. It is lots of other faces that don't look like a torus. What should I do to get the UV mapper read my torus in this texture? Tobias Nilsson
Augh
Use a better modeler program to uvw, one that supports non planar mappings. Alternatively, do it "by hand" and stitch the uv into the shape you want manually (yes I am serious, this is more normal than you might think), or you could use the probably close to optimum auto unwrap you're looking at there in the uv mapper. Look up on uv mapping and read read read is your best bet, experimentation never hurts either. Sounds like you just need a stronger grip on mapping concepts, that's all. Good luck. I don´t think that the reason for this is before my zmodeler educations, I have build cars like Mercedes S600, Mercedes E250, with full textures, and never meet this problem before. But it might be like you say, zmodeler isn´t a good program to UV mapping in. Does anyone know another program like zmodeler, with .DFF importer and exporter? Augh
Based on your screenshot, I refer you to my comment that you need to read about, and learn, how texturing and uvw mapping actually work. You are seeing a raw unwrap, that is completely normal. Cheers. Ed; RE another program to use, anything that can handle geometry and textures is going to be more powerful and effective than zmod, pretty much. .dff is obscure in general 3d terms however and the gta community so far is Zmod and 3DS oriented, so there's not much else you can pipe through to get a .dff, doesn't mean you have to resort to either for mapping necessarily though. Augh
Uh you don't? That is not how texturing works. PLEASE for your own sake look up a tut or two about what uv mapping is, how it works, as I suggested. Trust me, you are about to start confusing yourself more than you can even imagine otherwise. GH0STce11
you could use Gmax and Kam's IO scripts for an alternate modeller/UV Mapper. http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax
Karcus
you can also try zmod 2 although I don't know how to work with the uv editor yet. gmax is your best bet and like Augh say read tutorials.
rebel_36
how your object/faces show up in the uv view depends on in which view you used the "assign uv" tool you want your torus to show up in the uv view just like it shows in the left view? use "assign uv" in the left view, voila
