Girish
What's the mod to make it solid? The bump was really unnecessary. Any modding related question should go in the modding section.
Ilovevicecity324
Alright, I just got a question. I did this mission for Salvatore Leone where I had to fly to Liberty City to kill the "Forellis"- so I was completely off the San Andreas Map. so my question is- Can you access Liberty City in this game? Are there like "extra missions" you can do in Liberty City?
manofpeace
Actually the "Liberty City" in the game is just an interior in the game, which are usually located very high above San Andreas, above the height limit for planes. And no, there is only that one mission that takes place in Liberty City.

Only the SaintMark's Bistro Area is solid though and since it is above the hight limit you cannot use a jetpack. I use the San Andreas Crazy Trainer's jetpack to fly around Liberty City though. It gets boring after a while.

JustRob
In the mission "Farewell, My Love...", Catalina says Claude needs the car to drive to Liberty City. So, this means Liberty City is connected to San Andreas by road, right? To be quite honest, I did not expect that, seeing as we see CJ flying from and to Liberty City by air plane twice. And that also leaves me wondering where Liberty City could be. It can't be too far away. In Vice City, it was said that Liberty City is "up north" and Vice City is "down south". Could San Andreas be somewhere in the middle?
IvoryX
Look at USA map and search for New York (Liberty City), Miami (Vice City), California + Nevada (San Andreas) and you get answer Just GTA cities are island - simple conclusion due limitations. lil weasel
It's a Joke. In the United States of America there is an Island Group called the Hawaiian Islands. Years ago the US Military built (or had built) a series of Three Interstate Highways on the island of Oahu. The Joke is that they don't connect to the mainland, which is leagues away. (Alaska doesn't have any.) Link
UbK_families
yea san andreas is connected to liberty city by road just like all the other 48 states are lol except alaska and hawaii.
xgtamontariox
yea san andreas is connected to liberty city by road just like all the other 48 states are lol except alaska and hawaii. Exactly, any area/state in the same country will be connected by roads. You will reach Liberty City eventually, just like real life geography. Unless your question is if Liberty City is a good driving distance from San Andreas, if it is, the answer is pretty self explanetory. WhistleBlower
Okay, two things: Due to technical limitations, you can't actually render the whole journey that is traveling across the country via the use of a car on the road. Especially when you plan on doing it outside of the mission. That's why Liberty City, in the game anyway, was set in a separate map (universal plane). The reason San Andreas is surrounded by water is also due to technical limitations. It makes the work easier for the developer in the long run. Another reason is that it's much faster to travel across the country via the use of a plane as opposed to using a vehicle on the road. CJ took a plane because it was urgent that he get to San Andreas as soon as possible following the death of his mother. Same thing for the hit he was doing in Liberty City afterwards; he couldn't waste any time. Edited June 17, 2011 by WhistleBlower
radioman
Also, based on the Real life couter parts, look how far they are from each other-SA is based on California and Nevada(more specifically Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Long Beach, Anaheim, LAX(Los Angeles Intenational airport), Santa Cruz, East LA, San Francisco, Reno, Las Vegas, etc. and Liberty City is based on New York and New Jersey(depending on the era-III's is Portland and Stauntan=New York and Shoreside Vale=New Jersey/IV's Era=Broker and Dukes and Algoquin=New York and Alderney=New Jersey) and Vice city is based on Miami(Dade County), Florida. So, SA is West coast and LC and VC are East coast. It takes about 3-5 days to get from Miami(VC) to SA(California/Nevada) by car alone...and about 4-5 days to get to LC(NewYork) by car...to sum it up, it is a LONG drive. Also, there are many states between these areas, so that is one long(and i mean LONG bridge) between them-lol Even the I-10 bridge that goes through the Mobile tunnel(where by the way not even a Mobile radiostation can be picked up-tried the 100,000 watt ones-Kicks 104.1(Now 104.1 Jack FM) and 95KSJ(94.9)- ) is pretty much the longest bridge I have seen-at like 10 miles long minimum-wouldn't cover that situation-don't think they make bridges longer than that...the longest one we have in this area is the Mid-Bay Bridge at 3.5miles long...So, in conclusion that would not be possible, nor feasible.... Just a bit of info/examples... Edited June 17, 2011 by radioman
lil weasel
[...]Another reason is that it's much faster to travel across the country via the use of a plane [...] I've made note before in another topic that there also doesn't appear to be any Passenger Liner Port faciilities on any of the San Andreas Islands, except in San Fierro, (which appears to be a Ferry depot) but another odditiy is that San Fierro has two Container ships anchored off shore and there are no Container facilities on the warehouse docks there. I guess the mayor of San Fierro ran out of money or he just said "we all ready aren't connected to the other states so having no warehouse dock makes no difference" oh don't tell anyone u can get to japan if u swim or fly out of the bay of SF it might take a long time

In one of the container ships, there is a world map laying on a table showing how similar the United States of America is to its real-world counterpart despite the fact that, due to technical limitations, the state of San Andreas is essentially its own island. Skyf
Fact of the matter is that they arn't connected by road because there is no road leding to LC on the map. Duh!! P.S. I think he is talking about the game and not real life.

Carbonox
Well, to say it simply, San Andreas isn't actually surrounded by water, but due to technical limitations, something had to end the playable area, and like with all other GTA's, it ended up being water. In reality, I would believe that at least Las Venturas would be connected to the mainland, with the Nevada-style desert continuing past the cliffs in the north and south. A bit hard to explain, but basically water is there just because of the limitations.
