Tech has some questions...

1 - What is homebrew?

2 - How do you access the internet through your PSP?

3 - Where can I download firmware versions?

I haven't really payed much attention to my PSP.

OMG PSP abuse tounge.gif

Homebrew is by definition is games and software that are homemade, in regards to PSP its the ability to run homemade software things like emulators to play old console classics, iso loaders(for the naughty people), other misc apps that let you do cool stuff with your PSP.

PSP accesses the internet through wireless hotspots so you'd need a wireless setup in your home or whereever you are using your PSP to connect up. That's all I know as I haven't dealt with wireless much to know the exact details.

For firmware Sony's PSP website only has the latest update and atm you don't want that one, most of the trustworthy unofficial PSP websties that will have previous versions to download. PSPupdates.com is one of them that alot of people here recommend for anything PSP related.

A few of my mates have the PSP and its wonderful. One of them installed the fastloader thing and managed to fit a few good games on a 1 gig ms duo pro. Not bad at all imo.

Well, in that case all you need to do is configure your PSP's network settings according to your home network parameters (such as IP address, DNS, WEP key, etc.). It only took me a couple of minutes when I did it! colgate.gif

Now I have a problem. I thought it was because I wasn't using Sony USB cables last night but just now I've gone through 2 USB Cables, both Sony. I plug them into both my computer and PSP, but in My Computer, then Removable Disk folder doesn't come up. What the f*ck is wrong?

Edit - Okay, I haven't hooked my PSP up to the computer since I got it, kinda forgot you had to go to "USB Connection" on the PSP itself for it to work. f*ck me.

Edit Edit - There's only the SAVEDATA folder when I go under PSP, nothing else.

Well, of those three I've only got LCS and it rocks! But I've heard Burnout and SOCOM are great too (I might get the latter). smile.gif

all tre smile.gif

GTA is...well..GTA. its pretty sweet, although once you have gone through it once, its like, meh.

Burnout is pretty awesome, but if you have burnout 3, there will be nothing new here

i don't have socom, but from what i have heard it is a good game.

i, personally would go for GTA or burnout(as i did), but that is just where my gaming prefrences lean towards

I am going to get a PSP soon, but I need to ask a question. Why do you need to update it?

I don't have a PSP but I'm pretty sure it's to add new features (and it's also Sony's way of stopping homebrew applications from running on the PSP because they can potentially allow piracy).

Add new features to the game itself or to add things to do with the PSP?

The PSP itself, I should've worded that better sorry.

I've set the Network Settings, but I don't know where I can find the place where you start up the web browser. Also, last night I downloaded the firmware version 2.0 and there was no theme settings for the wallpaper. I'm starting to think that I didn't install it correctly, but I extracted it to my "UPDATE" folder. I dunno.

I wondering if I bought one of the Giga packs (original PSP package + 1 GB memory stick) from Amazon if it'd be 2.0 or 2.5 (or maybe even 1.5). Looking into getting one for around Christmas time but I don't want something I'm stuck with not being able to play my SNES games on (as I doubt I'll buy many PSP games except LCS).

I just checked that giga pack and I'm so pissed cuz i already ordered the normal value pack for $250 us from amazon. If i had known they had this then I would have bought it instead.I have a few questions:

1. Where can i get a 1gb memory stick for a really good price on the net?

2. I heard about the release of the san disk 2gb version of the memory stick.Does any1 know if it has been released yet?

3. I dont think my psp is coming with a usb cable so i will use my friend's own for now but i want to kno if the psp can connect to a pc wirelessly?(through bluetooth, infrared etc.)

Good, now all that's left is to actually install it tounge.gif

Go to Game -> Memory Stick, then select the update and the installation will start.

PSP's rock!

I got mine the other day, been playing LCS - the graphics are amazing for a handheld wow.gif

It came with 3 "stuck" pixels, running a video now that flashes red, green and blue repeatedly to try and fix them.. unsure if it'll work or not.. worth a try I guess. smile.gif

The pixels are barely noticeable anyway, I can only see them against a black background although it would be nice to have them removed.

for anyone thats interested mczonk says he'll release quake 2 on dec 27th.

its only for versions 1.5 or below btw,

for the lads smart enough not to have upgraded. wink.gif

@XcR, yeah i noticed a dead pixel on mine in the lower right corner.

im not sure if it was always there but i didnt notice for months after i bought it.

and like you said i only see it on a black background.

it doesnt bother me much, three is a different story though.

There's nothing there. You mean Network Update?

In Game>Memory Stick it justs says "There are no games" I'm a n00b.

No, If you network update, it'll automatically go to the newest version.

If I were you, i'd get a Datel 4GB HDD instead of a memory stick. Much cheaper.

What the f*ck is that?

A 4GB Hard Drive tounge.gif Its different to a memory stick and it comes with a higher capacity battery to support it its made by Datel Maxdrive.

at the same time it pretty much ruins the sleek portability of the psp by adding two huge lumps to the backend of the psp on either side.

Yeah, i've seen the hard-drive before. It sounds good, 4GB of space to fill with whatever. But the size ruins it, the PSP isn't thin anymore. It's too blocky. I'm going to stick with a SD card, constantly deleting old things i dont need anymore

I'm not too sure if this is what you're talking about, but I think it is. Go to this page and the MPH downgrader is there. I used this myself and it worked perfectly.

Hope it helps.
