the almighty
I've read through all the posts and it looks like all the poeple with SiS chipsets have the same problem.... The game plays perfectly, and then... it all fogs out, you can see a few shapes, sometimes, and nothing else, then suddenly it's back to normal, and you play for a minute and it's fogged out again, and the cycle repeats the entire time. i have the SiS 315 128MB card and i am looking all over the net for a way to fix this problem... it sounds alot like the nVidia Fog Table Emulation problem but SiS doesn't give you the option to change these settings... does anyone know of a way to change the Direct 3D settings with a SiS chipset? There is a program that can do that '3d analyze' it's pretty complicated and you have to run it every time you run GTA3 but hey, anything to get it working
the almighty
I am having a Problem. When i go to instal the game A Box pops up and says Install Shield Engine (iKernel.EXE) Could not be launched Error Loading Type Library/DLL And when i go into the Install Disc I find a file that says iKernel.ex_ i try to rename it to iKernel.exe but it says i can't. I have already e-mailed Rockstar Games and posted this on two message boards. Is there a problem with my Machine? or my Game? Thanks for the Help Oh yeah my system is a 450 MHz P3 64MB RAM and a 16MB ATi Xpert 128 I think it would be a problem with your cd drive or with your cd itself. The reason you can't rename it is because it's a CD and you can't write on CD's. Ummmmm, what OS do u have? Do you have any problems with other games or cd's? Hotcakes
Something that wasn't mentioned in the first post, turn trails Off. I could turn off everything in the game, draw distance at minimum, 640x480x16 and my GeForce3Ti200 was still kinda struggling. Turn Trails Off, and everything else on maximum detail, 1600x1200x32 and the game runs beautifully.

EigoKyoukan
Hello, wanted to post here to say that after doing everything here and anything else I saw, I got GTAIII to work! And nothing here did it (at least that I saw). First my computer specs and my problem: Iwill K7S3-N motherboard AMD Athlon 1100 Mhz Socket A 256 MB DDR Ram eVGA.com Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128 MB DDR AGP 40 GB Maxtor HDD Sound Blaster Live! PCI sound card. The problem I was having was the game would crash with an illegal error, or give me a blue screen anywhere between a few seconds and a few minutes of loading the game. I went into my BIOS and turned off AGP Fast Write, changed the speed of my AGP to 4x instead of 8x, and changed the bus speed of my memory to be closer to the bus speed of my MB. Now GTAIII runs great, no crashes, I was playing for a couple of hours last night with no problem. So to all those having crash problem with an Nvidia Geforce FX (and possibly other cards) try this and it may just be your salvation (I had just about given up on this poorly programed port before I did this). Please reply if this works for you also.
Demarest
Does that mean that your DDR was 133MHz FSB or faster and you lowered it to 100MHz to run synchronous with your CPU? Shouldn't be necessary, but can add to system stability. Also, 8x is only a sideband rating. There will be no difference hardware-wise unless you're experiencing heat issues. Not to mention that unless you have anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, resolution, and bit depth pumped up, GTA3 won't need bandwidth above 4x anyways. Blue screens and freezes that are due to hardware are almost always ram, video card, or power supply related. But it always helps to use quality components. While not everybody cannot afford quality components, the motherboard and power supply are the two components you should NEVER skimp on. You'll pay for it every day whether your system's crashing or not.

Demarest
PC2100 was intended to run at a 266MHz system bus. If you're BIOS was to to 333 before, THAT would explain why it was crashing (overclocking is always less stable). 4x and 8x are sideband ratings. It only indicates how open the gate that data can transfer is, so there's really no difference. I believe that I was ripped off when I bought VC. I also believe that enough of the community agrees that the next GTA will be better. So I think they deserve one more chance. But even if I didn't, I don't agree with your theory. It's people like that that make the games more expensive for the rest of us
DamonHunt
Here's a doozy! Intel P4 2gig processor 512mb RAM Intel 82845G 64mb Graphics (Driver v6.14.10.3865) DirectX 8.1 (v4.08.01.0810) XP Home I've downloaded the latest graphics driver from Intel, run the XP patch for the two DirectX files, and the game seems to run okay with trails, frame etc etc set to off and graphics at 800x600x16 BUT When I come to quit the game, it goes blank and no amount of CTRL-ALT-DEL brings anything up. Interestingly, the same thing happened when I ran DXDIAG and clicked "Test Direct3D". The spinny box comes up, then the screen goes blank..... Tried to rollback my Graphics driver to see if that was the problem, but it reverts to a crappy microsoft driver that looks really EVIL and lo-res. It never did this before I updated the graphics driver and ran the XP fix, so it must be something to do with the two. Gonna try DirectX 9.0, but if it still does it, any other suggestions? DamonHunt
DirectX 9.0 made naff all difference. Double checked Intel Graphics driver, correct one and latest version. And looks like I was mistaken about the performance. Even at lowest resolution, and all widgets set to off with draw distance tried at varying levels, still dead slow if anything is in the vicinity. Jeez, I wanna tear my hair out, this is infuriating with my specs......... EDIT - Just downloaded 3d Analyzer.....Stuff that, I'd kill something if I even tried to work out half those options..... Ben
Are you using a downloaded version? If so, go and buy the proper version of the game and it will work. I can't see any other reason why the radio stations wouldn't work.
