Big Guy With Stick Posted June 2, 2002 Share Posted June 2, 2002 Hey there, i got a problem with running GTA3 without lags. my computer is: inter pentium 3 667 Mhz, 256 RAM, Nvidia Geforce 2 mx/mx 400 and a SB LIVE! sound card. when i run the game in 800X600 its not running realy fast... can i do something to optimize the speed? sam4felicitys Posted June 2, 2002 Share Posted June 2, 2002 Hello there, I have just baught GTA 3 this morning and when i try to play it, the R* screen comes up, then it just waits and eventually a error message pops up which u can send to microsoft. it says error running gta3.exe I have just installed the patch from microsoft for xp users but i still doesnt work. My specs are - amd athalon 1.4 nvidia geforce 2 MX & i also have a voodoo accelerator win xp pro Iam now downloading the latest nvidia drivers but dont think it will work Can someone please help?? I upgraded to 29.11 detenator drivers (beta, search for them on the net), and installed cpuidle, and run it during play. slowdown no longer exists. still hoping for a gf4 4400 sometime soon, but this will have to do for now Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

vdeath Posted June 5, 2002 Share Posted June 5, 2002 Can't load a saved game Try buying the game... lol.. this is funny cuz it's true. the illegal copies have problems saving and loading games cuz Deviance(Warez Group) screwed up when coding the crack.. that they had to repack it. Those of you doing this the warez way.. there is a fix somewhere on the net for this. just gotta look Buy the game, the Deviance/Myth copy does not work....of course you can run the game but whats the use if you can't load it...... Hey Sam, I WAS and AM getting that same message now. I have updated all drives that I know of and installed the xp patch. Nothing was working then I had done my normal Norton 2k2 Win Doc and it told me that I had about 42 problem. (No Prob, missing shortcut, ect.) But it did find a lot of ActiveX issues that it needed to repair and it said that this could affect how some programs and games may run. After I had done this the game ran fine for the first time. I was able to play for hours with no lag, save and close the game and come back to it. BUT, once I restarted the game and tried to play the next day I got that error message all over again. I did the Norton 2002 again but it said my system was clean and there where no errors. since then it has not worked and that was Sunday 6/2. I have not installed anything new and I had crap running in the backgound when the game did work. I have tried to duplecate everything I had done on Sun in all kinds of ways with no success. I believe it is something to do with the ActiveX but I don't know anything about the X to see. What ever Norton fixed it came back and Norton is not recognizing it now. It says thast if u have it it should run fine if not it will run choppy. It says something about reinstalling the drivers or sumin just go read it. Mine is blank to but i got it runnin ok now i just need a svae game file cos i corrupted my files editing the car while it wasin my garage ..word to the wise.. dont do it. noVa Posted June 8, 2002 Share Posted June 8, 2002 Found it Also we have found thatsome video cards that have what is called an Intergrated ramdac are seeing some choppy or delayed framerate during gameplay. (Which shows what kind of ramdac you have in your Dxdiag.) To check what ramdac you have, Click Start -> Run. Erase whatever is in the box and type in 'DXDIAG'. Click on the Display tab and on the upper left hand side it should show you either Internal Ramdac or Intergrated Ramdac. If nothing is showing for your Dac Type then the gameplay will be choppy. starkey Posted June 10, 2002 Share Posted June 10, 2002 those of you saying you HAVE to play in 32bit color, You are telling me (and everyone else here) that you can notice the differentce between 16 MILLION and 32 MILLION colours??... I find this very funny, and i reckon you would have great difficulty in distinguishing ONE SHADE difference on the 16bit color spectrum, let alone 32bit spectrum... in my experience, 16bit is as good as 32bit and does take a load off system resources (it requires 1/2 the bandwidth on your graphics cards for starters) If you think your screen looks washed out in 16bit color mode try upping the GAMMA or SATURATION on your monitor or in your video cards settings. Please help here's a fix: RTFM!! - READ THE FARKIN MANUAL The readme file specifically addresses the problem you are having and provides a fix for it. I applied the fix before i even ran the game as i knew if i didnt then i would be getting the exact rpoblem you are talking about. there is a reason why they call the README file "README" Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Doz Posted June 10, 2002 Share Posted June 10, 2002 For all you guys with a Geforce 4, a mate of mine works for Take 2 here in NSW, Australia. He's got a Geforce 4 and he's had no luck and said he's just sitting around waiting for a patch, not much else he can do. Also, for people like myself who run a Geforce Pro DDR (runs the 256 chipset), DON'T USE THE LATEST DETONATOR DRIVERS!! I spent a week screaming at my PC when 21.83 crashed Windows. This was on Windows ME by the way. I switched back to 12.41 and everything's sweet again. Lastly: when I ran GTA3 for the first time, even on 640x480x16 the framerate was all chopped up and completely unplayable. I unticked the TRAILS checkbox in the Video Options and everything's sweet. I run it on 800x600x16 and only get the odd little jump in framerate. Haven't tried on 1024x768 yet..... Oh, one more thing. Anyone know a quick way to switch the radio off?
