rappo11
Sure, you may think it's simple, but so many people ask questions that invlove installing vehicles, that I think it's necessary. So, here's my tutorial: Let's install the 'Tumbler' Batmobile together, shall we? So, first off, download that mod, extract it, and continue. Tools You'll Need: For this, all you need is the IMG Tool by Spooky and a simple text editor like Notepad. The first thing you'll notice are two files that you have downloaded- phoenix.dff and phoenix.txd. The .dff file is a model. That is where the actual car is. The .txd file contains all of the textures, or images, that are seen on/inside the car in the actual game. Now for the installation. First, open up IMG Tool, and within that, open the gta3.img file in your San Andreas\models\ directory. Now go to Edit--->Find (or just hit F2) and type in "phoenix". This will take you straight to the phoenix.dff file. Now, right click the phoenix.dff file and select "Replace". Browse to the downloaded phoenix.dff and select it to replace the original. Repeat this step for the phoenix.txd file. NOTE: If you get errors while replacing saying that the file is too big, what you need to do is right click and delete the files, then go to Commands--->Add and add the new files. It's the same thing, but it works 100% of the time, unlike replacing. Also note that if you want to back up files that you are going to mod (and you don't have a complete copy of the entire gta3.img file), what you may want to do is rename the old .dff and .txd, rather than replacing or deleting them. Then, just add the new ones with the correct name, and the game will recognize those and the old ones will remane in the .img file, untouched by the game. It's your choice. That's it for the .img file. Close IMG Tool, it saves automatically. Now, browse to your San Andreas\data folder. There, you will see a lot of the games data. First off, you'll edit the carcols.dat file, which defines the colors of every vehicle in the game. In any text editor, open the carcols.dat file. Find the line that begins with "phoenix" and replace it with the line found in the ReadMe, "phoenix, 0,0". This line means that the Batmobile will only show up in game with a black color. Save and close the file, and proceed to the next step. Next, open up the handling.cfg file in the same folder as carcols.dat. This is where all of the technical vehicle information is defined. Again, find the line that begins with "PHOENIX" and replace it with the one from the ReadMe, "PHOENIX 5000.0 20000.0 2.2 0.0 0.1 -0.15 85 0.7 0.9 0.52 5 200.0 26.0 5.0 R P 6.0 0.55 0 30.0 0.8 0.08 0.0 0.28 -0.24 0.59 0.4 0.25 0.1 350000 20286000 00708403 1 1 0". Save and close the file, and move on to the last step. Last is the vehicles.ide file. If you remember modding in Vice City or GTAIII, this file was known as default.ide. It's changed now, but it's basically the same file. This is where models, textures, and other vehicle information is assigned to the vehicle IDs. Search for the line that begins with "603" and replace it with the one from the ReadMe, "603, phoenix, phoenix, car, PHOENIX, PHOENIX, null, normal, 7, 0, 0, -1, 1.25, 1.764, 0". Save and close this file. NOW GO PLAY! Phosgene
Good advice on replacing the files. I tried several different cars using the "delete old files, then add new ones, then rebuild the archive", and got MANY errors and crashes. I reinstalled the game to start fresh, then tried the "replace files and NOT rebuild archive" method and it's worked like a charm... Well, except for the ped who had a car engine stuck to his head (can't figure that one out for the life of me).
rappo11
Hahaha yeah... I remember for Vice City, replacing files haven't always worked (you would get the "File too large" error), but I haven't got that with San Andreas yet, even when replacing a car with that 5+ MB .dff BMW e60 So, it should be alright. I've tried manually, and I have tried with the GMM. Either way, it locks up... grrrr

Well, except for the ped who had a car engine stuck to his head (can't figure that one out for the life of me). REALLY!? Oh, it's an extremely GREAT news to me! Is it the same in Vice City? That we should "replace the file and leave" but not "delete the file then rebuild archive"? I mean vehicle mods only. If so, then I think you should tell everyone cuz' it is very important! Ton of thanks there buddy!
