wijiwang
I am a member of another forums that uses phpBB and they give users the option to lock 'their' posts. I don't seem to notice this option on this board. Just thought it might help and clean up the boards a bit.

Luke
It's not needed and it's not going to happen, I don't see any reason why normal users would need to lock topics. If you don't want to invite discussion then it shouldn't be on gtaforums. adam broke it.
GTA3Freak-2001
If a topic needs locking all the user has to do is report it for locking, that way a staff member can asses the validation of the request and lock it if nesasary.
wijiwang
I never said lock other people's topics.. Just their own. What is the harm of allowing users to close 'their' topics that have been solved?
Yuck Fou
I never said lock other people's topics.. Just their own. What is the harm of allowing users to close 'their' topics that have been solved? Yeah, we get that... but it's not needed. It could be abused... whenever things didn't go the way the topic started wanted. We'd have more locked than open topics. Chalkstar
It is the moderators job to lock topics. Don't spoil their fun. There is usually at least one mod on at any time so just report it.

My point still stands, its the staff's job to deal with these sort of things so we won't be implementing this anytime soon.
Flashback666
Agreed. If users have the ability to lock their own topics, then it kind of makes staff redundant. And they might need to then venture out into the real world and stuff, and meet ladies......

San andreas master
All this would accomplish would be that members could undermind the moderators and admins. - ѕ.а.м
ThaddeusMcKlown
That wouldn't necessrily be undermining them, it would be releiving some of their workload. They could spend more time modreating and less time topic locking. Like if someone needed a simply answer to a short question, they ask it, then lock their own topic. I think it's a good idea. -TMcK- Against the grain, against the odds, against the world Forever the underdogs We are the bastard sonsWe are the ones that refuse to grow coldWe are the thorn in your sideWe are the thieves in the nightAnd we're coming to take what's ours
51L3N7 4554551N
I just think it would get out of control. Firstly prats will begin spamming the board, secondly I reckon the moderators do a fine job, and taking away what they do %95 of the time would be silly I think -
Svip
I guess, but shouldn't we lock this topic? Sorry, wijiwang, but you can't do it yourself.
Jevon
Unfortunately this will never be an option. It's nothing to do with staff being redundant, but merely because it would cause more issues than it's worth. Yes, if Joe Bloggs asks a question, gets his answer, then closes the topic, that's a good use. However, this is just one example of a number of bad uses: A) Joe starts a thread "My house Rawks!?!?one!11??!" B) The thread progresses. C) Just William disagrees, and starts arguing with Joe. D) Argument gets bigger, involving more people, so Joe gets in the last word and shuts the topic. E) Just William (or anyone else in the argument) starts up new topic(s) to continue the argument as they disagree with the closing post or whatever. F) Repeat from D. Now, obviously this won't happen in all instances, but it would still happen. Besides, how often does a topic need locking? According to the database, for 42527 open topics, there are only 5425 closed ones. I'm surprised it's even that high. Most of the time, once a topic has been completed, it will drop off into the depths of obscurity of its own accord. Believe me, I'm all for "Power to the PEOPLE!" but in this instance it really isn't the best idea. "Face Your Fears, Live Your Dreams" - No Fear"God was a dream of good government." - Deus Ex Machina "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. Is that as of your post? In the San An > Mission Help forum we lock completed Save n Play topics when they're finished. If that's a current number then I'd say the number of locked topics for actual reasons (i.e. pointless topics, spam filled, etc) is far less. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Jevon
Yes, it was. So yeah, the ones closed for real reasons probably are a lot less.
