weirdal Posted July 21, 2005 Share Posted July 21, 2005 I think its safe to say this will hurt sales for a bit untill the new version is out. many people who play gta have their parents buy it for them. sure this is only one year difference, but trust me, an Adults only rating sounds a hell lot worse than a Mature rating to the average mother. its the same with movies, most parents let their kids watch R rated movies but they wouldn't let them watch an adults only movie. (note, I'm not sure on movie ratings, I think they rate "adults only" movies NC17, but on tv [cinemax, hbo, etc], they call them "Adults only") Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It won't hurt so much globally, and you can still buy it online, but they're going to lose sales from the stores. IMO re-rating a game because of a mod is complete bullsh*t. The GTA series is probably the most popular series around and with high popularity brings trouble. I hope Rockstar makes a game 10 times as gruesome and worse than SA. Make it as real as possible. You know, bring Manhunt gruesomeness but keep the GTA aspect. I'm sure that is going to be really fun to see. Yeah even bring the executions into the play. WEAPON : SHOVEL. Said mother was so horrified that she immediately called her dear friend Hilary (who should really be working on her unified health care for NY plan she pitched while running for Senator - when I lived in NY, I did NOT vote for her) who immediately contacted Thompson to start a campagn...Of course, this is all conjecture...it was probably Billy-boy who got caught whanking it to the hot coffee mod that started all of this... ROFLMAO One thing that kept irritating me as I read Take2's article was the word "unauthorized" in reference to the mod and they used it an awful lot. After all, "Player Modification support" is still listed as a feature on R*'s GTASA-PC website. And yet, now they claim it is "a violation of Take-Two and Rockstar's end user license agreement (EULA) and intellectual property rights". So tell us Take2, what is your definition of "player modification"? Another bit that bugs me is that they think the publicity "has detracted from the creative merits of this award winning product". I disagree, I believe the the terrible bugs that players have asked for a patch for since the game's release is what really prevents the game from being considered "award winning". @Patrick: I hope your not kicking yourself over this. None of the blame should be put on you. I hope this hasn't changed your feeling on gta modding. You are still a great asset to the gta modding community. And I thank you for all your hard work. Only the current release will be affected because rockstar is gonna re release the game with to fit the M17+ rating again. Funny thing is this happened before with GTA3 in Australia. I remember when i still had a PS2 that i bought GTA3 on release and a few months later the game was banned because of the shagability of the hookers. Rockstar then re released it minus the hookers. I made a killing selling my now R rated copy to a friend of a friend. Funnier still is that shaggable hookers came right back in GTA SA and no ones said boo about it this time. It ticks me off to no end that parents are not more involved in ther kids lives. Then blames everything else for their kids behaviour. Now I'm not trying to turn this into a left vs right thing, but all I see is the Liberals going after video games over the years. Anyone remember the "hitlist" of games that senator Joseph Leiberman wanted off store shelves? If you're at least 20+ years of age, you'll recall that the music industry had a huge battle going with politicians over explicit lyrics. People like Tipper Gore are the reason why we have a parental advisory on music CD's. But did it change anything? No. But politics aside, I'm afriad this might hurt modding in gerenal, not just the GTA games. Besides playing GTA games, I'm also an avid sim racer and anyone in the sim racing crowd should by now be aware of the whole "FIRST/iRacing vs the mod community" thing.
