Can you beat this dl speed?

If you live outside the US then I wouldn't recommend that test. Just look for some big-ass elite host's extra sh*t directories for speed tests (that's what all elite hosts do, they provide you with some DSL package and then without knowing you can acces extra sh*t of ftps irc etc. on the host) like xs4all etc.

It's hard to explain. But for example my host Elisa, has this server kolumbus.fi and the customers can go to ftp. irc. etc.etc. to access extra goodie sh*t. :)

If nobody has bothered to say this about the first screenshot, I'd like to clear something up (seeing as this has turned into an 'lol i download faster than you' topic).

It's obviously an incorrect reading. Shareaza and Kazaa and countless other P2P programs will display "Kb/sec", giving you the impression it's "kilobits" rather than "kilobytes", but I can assure you they're going by KB/sec rather than Kb/sec. I've reached such download speeds on Kazaa and even tricked some online download speed tests by having the contents of the file still in my cache or sitting in the temporary download folder of said P2P program.

Edit: Lobo, mind editing the first picture? It's rather wide.

Well the topic title "Can you beat this dl speed?" kinda implies a "I download faster than you thread"...

And erhm no it's 5mb/s he is downloading with right there.

I can tell you didn't bother reading (or just didn't comprehend) my post.

If you're arguing that he's downloading at 5MB/sec, you're wrong. Reasons listed above.

If you're arguing that the Mb/sec in the screenshot means "megabits", you're also wrong. Programs that use Kb/sec or Mb/sec often mean "bytes", not "bits". It's just something that happens, and since people don't often measure data by bits (there's no real reason to, it's just a bigger number), there's usually no confusion.

I don't think I am tounge.gif

Anyway, in my screenshot I'm right it is 8 megabits.

Reason listed, right here: Because it's during a LAN party were my friends and I were transferring files with a P2P program, just over LAN. smile.gif

So why does it say 256KB done when its going 8.06MB/s? if 256kB was 20% of that file, it would have been done instantly with 8.06MB/s

Wing Attack

932.8 kilobits per second

Communications 932.8 kilobits per second

Storage 113.9 kilobytes per second

1MB file download 9 seconds

Subjective rating Good

Cool.

You're lying, Opius.

GrabIt didn't even work last time I tried, and I'm with TPG. How much do you pay for 1500kb/s? That's my connection times ten sad.gif

Indeed.

Also, if it was a LAN, it would travel much faster than 8mb/sec (even though that screenshot says 8MB/sec, and I know for a fact DC++ uses bytes), depending on how many computers you had hooked up, of course. Even then, Daggdave's point stands.

Funny, you confused me.

0.625Megabytes = 5Megabits = 640Kilobytes = 5,120Kilobits

Safe to say he's using a 5Megabit line.

nice speeds guys. opius what isp do you have?

I get upload speeds up to 400kb/s on torrents, as I've proved in #sysnode from time to time. I'll get a screenie next time.

OMG, you just don't give up. It only did 256 kilobytes because I was downloading a whole album of music from the other pc. So I just took a screenshot while it was doing it and randomly the screenshot was taken while it made 256 kilobytes of one song. And NO, it could not transfer any faster than 8 mb over those two LAN PC's. And I know that for a fact because I tryed doing it with a (legal) movie and it took about 2 minutes to transfer, and during those 2 minutes of transfering 700mb it only went to 8mb/s. That is a f*cking fact believe it or not.

<snip>

Well, it says "Subjective rating: Awesome", did you really need to ask us whether it was good or was it a subtle attempt at showing off your download speed? (which is 10 times faster than mine, FYI)

lol @ the Avant browser picture. Sure is a sucky browser. A bit better than IE though, but who isn't?

Anyways, when I finally get my new connection set up I will show off, but as it is now, I only have 128/56, so yeah... :\

yeah.....Shareaza measures in bits unless otherwise changed to bytes. It's a 5mb connection. And still, that's a wicked fast speed for a p2p program. asshole.
