"Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is an entirely new game in the Grand Theft Auto series and brings an unprecedented mobile dimension to this epic experience. The original storyline and all new missions take place in Liberty City; featuring the interactive, open environment, superb voice talent and diverse music that have become pioneering trademarks of the series.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will present PSP system gamers with an intense, visceral experience previously impossible on a handheld.

Cities

Portland

Dominated by heavy industry, Portland is home to some of the less fortunate Liberty City residents. Look out for the docks, markets, garages and the unforgettable Red Light District. Crime is a real problem in Portland - the Mafia, Triads and Diablos will be sure to give you a warm welcome upon your arrival. Look out for the St. Mark's Bistro, 8-Ball's bomb shop, Mr. Wong's Launderette and street traders with more noodles than they know what to do with. The infamous monorail will make a return for Liberty City Stories!

Staunton Island

A bustling business district populated by rich, powerful business owners and city traders. Skyscrapers are the norm, overlooking the modern Liberty City airport and bay. The streets are packed by day, desolate and dangerous by night. Be sure to check out the city's sporting hub - the Liberty Memorial Coliseum. Look for the offices of your favourite brands - Love Media, Liberty Tree and of course, Kenji's Casino. Gang activity is provided by the Yakuza.

Shoreside Vale

Liberty City's main residential area. Home to the high flyers from the commercial districts in Staunton, streets are awash with expensive sports cars, all heading in the one direction. On the other hand, there's the affluent gangsters, living high in the hills in lavish mansions whose swimming pools give the cliffs an almost gleaming quality. Looking elsewhere, the Cochrane Dam is the main attraction, along with Liberty City International Airport. Not to be outdone by the other two areas, Shoreside Vale has its fair share of gangs - The Columbian Cartel and the Jamaican Yardies.

Vehicles

The selection of vehicles in Liberty City Stories will be more varied than GTAIII. We'll have access to an array of cars, vans and trucks along with motorbikes from Vice City. Below is the currently confirmed list of vehicles. This page will update to reflect the vehicles that are revealed in media articles.

Bobcat

The Bobcat was first seen in GTAIII as one of the larger vehicles in the game. It returned in Vice City with some impressive rear branding (big black BOBCAT lettering).

Cabbie

The first of Liberty City Stories' taxis will have a retro feel, and it's been in GTAIII, Vice and San Andreas!

Esperanto

Personally I hate this car. Why would anyone want to drive a tangerine low rider in New York? I guess it fits in well with the Italian-styled Mafia in the city.

Moonbeam

One of the only MPV's ever to find its way into Grand Theft Auto finds its way back to Liberty City. Quite realistic, too!

Patriot

One of GTAIII's biggest road vehicles is typical of the American Hummer generation, filling up the roads and polluting the atmosphere!

Sentinel

Official PS2 Magazine UK's mission descriptions mentioned this car. Will we get a special Mafia or XS edition?

Stallion

Sounds like it means business, doesn't it? Available in topless and roofed versions, prepare to stun the Shoreside Vale people with this!

Taxi

From the tiny glimpses we've had of this, we can divulge that the Taxi in LCS will be the old style from Vice City.

PCJ 600

Vice City's only super bike is back! Prepare to tear up the streets super-quick on this!

Freeway

First seen propped against a wall in Vice Point, the Freeway also made an impact on the winding country roads of San Andreas. Just how it will cope with the squared streets of Liberty is puzzling!

Sanchez

In OPS2UK they mention taking a dirt bike, which is probably the Sanchez, to go and retrieve money from the docks at Atlantic Quays. Well if it is in the game, it will most defiantly put a smile on everyone’s face, just like it did back in Vice City.

Triad fish van

OPS2 UK mentioned avoiding a Triad Fish van in one of the missions they played. This could also mean that we will once again see Triad gang members on the streets of Liberty City.

Bike

It is not certain if we will see any Bicycles in Liberty City Stories. German Magazine "Play" mentioned that Rockstargames are trying to bring most of the stuff from other GTA's to the game and said: "for instance bicycles driving through Liberty City".

Police Car

They wouldn't be able to catch you on foot, so they got a whole bunch of these. They'll probably be frustratingly locked on Portland again, though!

Enforcer

For times when two officers just isn't enough! Excellent on those Vigilante missions whom we know will be coming back for LCS!

Facts

The following details are confirmed:

· Main character: Toni Cipriani, one of the job-offering bosses from GTA III (voiced, once more, by Michael Madsen)

· There are clothing changes supported, but whether this is in the Vice City icon style or the San Andreas shopping style is as yet unknown; according to PlayThePlaystation it is more akin to the clothing selection style, but just how similar is still unknown

· The vehicles: familiar GTAIII vehicle makes will make a comeback updated for the time period, as well as motorcycles

· All of the GTA III cars will return in this game, as well as the bikes seen in Vice City.

· There will be vehicle missions (Taxi Driver, Vigilante, etc.)

· Flying vehicles such as planes and helicopters have not been confirmed and will likely be excluded due to apparent technical concerns

· Hidden Packages, Unique Jumps and Rampages will be hidden in all new locations.

· Ammu-Nation will return, along with all of the GTA III weapons

· According to the Australian magazine, the game is "80% finished"

Music

· The radio stations feature licenced music although the track listings are unknown as of yet

· According to PlayThePlaystation, MP3 playback from a memory stick will be supported

Changes to Liberty City

· The city itself has changed, there will be new landmarks

· The area around Shoreside Vale is twice as big and now stretches out above Stanton Island

o Because they run under this new area, the Shoreside Vale tunnels may have been opened up as well

Story

· The setting: the game is set around 1998, roughly three years before GTA III

· The story: Toni is fresh back in the city after a while laying low, having offered a fellow mobster as a favour for Don Salvatore Leone. The grateful Salvatore puts him straight back to work.

· The main story missions will be "as long as Vice City's"

· at this earlier time in the GTA lineage, Luigi's Club is called Paulie's Revue Pad and is instead owned by J.D. O'Toole, a Triad working for the Sindacco family (from San Andreas)

· There is a casino in St Marks owned by the Leones

· Several old faces can be seen including Salvatore and a girl who appears to be Misty, Joey's girlfriend from GTA III

Graphics

· The draw distance and graphics are much improved from GTA III, with minimal pop-up and nearly no fog

· Cars will now have even better reflection modelling than they did in San Andreas.

· The onscreen HUD will be semi-transparent, giving a better view of the action on PSP's small screen.

· Rockstar says that the particle effects will look better than those in GTA III

Controls

· Character movement is controlled by the analog stick, and the Select button changes the camera

· To target an enemy the player holds the right trigger and can then cycle through targets using left and right on the D-Pad

o Apparently, all enemies on the radar are indicated by red dots; this may however only apply to missions rather than continual detection of all dangerous pedestrians

Multiplayer?

The word from Rockstar is that they are "obsessed" with working on the single-player storyline, making it sound as if multiplayer will only be included if there is sufficient time. As the game is now apparently "80% finished" and the release date September 1 is still a long way off, fans believe that there will be time to include multiplayer after all.

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories will have many features. Some of it that weren't possible in the original Grand Theft Auto 3. Below we outline some of the features that we already know. This page will be updated in the coming days as we receive more info about this game.

► The game takes place in the year 1998 in Liberty City.

► You will be able to drive bikes in the game!

► Rockstar are unsure if they will be able to keep flight in the in game, due to technical limitations.

► You may be able to run your own MP3s off the PSP's MemoryStick Duo.

► Salvatore will be returning in the game and you will be working for him.

► JD O’Toole now runs Luigi’s club, a triad perverts.

► Hidden Packages, Stunt Jumps and Rampages will be hidden in all new locations.

► Some buildings have been altered from 2001's GTA III to better represent the era.

► It looks like Luigi's Club has been renamed to "Paulie's Revue Pad" for the new era.

► Several old faces can be seen including Misty, Joey's girlfriend from GTA3 and Salvatore.

► The game will be played in a fully 3-dimensional enviremont.

► In most of the screenshots Tony wears casual clothes, but in one mission he is seen wearing a black suit with a open white shirt.

► Some of the weapons include a shotgun, handgun and a Uzi.

► It is confirmed that multiplayer will not be availible in this game.

Information on the Grand Theft Auto game for the PSP is still scarce; the title of the game we now know will be Liberty City Stories.

Liberty City Stories will be set in a thriving Liberty City, the city used in GTA3 and more recently GTA Advance. Based on New York, there are several islands encapsulated within the city itself. The include Portland - the poor, industrial part of Liberty City, you'll see mostly workmen in old cars. Gangs roaming around here consist of The Mafia, Triads and Diablos.

Next we have Staunton Island - The business area. Home to the more affluent people of Liberty City, alongside their flashy cars. The resident gangs include The Yakuza, Yardies and Colombian Cartel.

Finally there's Shoreside Vale - This is the suburban area of Liberty City. The wealthy live here, along with the middle class residents and gangs. The Francis International Airport is also located here. As are the Southside Hoods, the most predominant gang in this area.

You will play as Tony Cipriani in the year 1998 in Liberty City. The game kicks of where Tony returns to the city after he laid low for a while, having offered a job by a fellow mobster Don Salvatore Leone. The grateful Salvatore puts you straight back to work. Tony owned a restaurant in GTA3.

Weapons

Yes its weapons, what are GTA without them? Whether on a mission, a car chase or being pursued by 9 members of the FBI, any GTA game and player needs them, in a gaming environment of course. Liberty City Stories is most certain not an exception, you will yet again enjoy a set of guns at your disposal to rock about Liberty City. It is probably known that most of the guns seen in GTA3 and other Grand Theft Auto's will be available in GTA LCS. However, not all of them are confirmed yet and the weapons listed below were mentioned in several gaming magazine previews from around the world. As more is revealed from other media sources and from the great folks over at r*, this page will most certainly be updated as they emerge.

The typical 9MM handgun is not one of the most powerful weapons around and is used by most police forces throughout the city. However, if you only got a few bucks to spend and are in danger, this pistol will be better than your average fist.

Coming at a nice price and great accuracy, this baby is a great choice by many. This gun is all about speed... not only does it fire fast, but also it is lightweight that allows you to run and shoot at the same time.

Want to shoot of a few heads without being noticed? The Sniper Rifle is not a weapon you would use in a fight against large amounts of police officers and could fun to shoot people from a far distance away without them know what hit them.

We’re not sure if this is the official title of the upcoming Sony PSP GTA game, but Clutch wrote:

I was able to check out a few of the booths being built at E3 this afternoon, one of which was that of Rockstar Games. It was pretty simple—basically just a bunch of buses parked inside a chainlike fence—but the important part was what was painted on the buses. You see, each one was dedicated to a different Rockstar project, and, nestled between a Midnight Club bus and a Bully bus (delightful alliteration, might I add), was a bus that was painted totally black but for a bit of text that read, “Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories” directly beneath the PSP logo. Could this be the official title of GTA PSP?

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is set to release across North America and Europe sometime after September 1 of this year, perhaps coinciding or coming shortly after the European launch of PSP. The game was officially announced at SCE Europe's press conference, giving credit where due to the team in Europe who started this franchise and who have worked with Rockstar to make GTA a household name.

According to officially released materials, Rockstar Leeds is developing Liberty City Stories in conjunction with the franchise creators at Rockstar North. And, it will be a PSP exclusive title.

Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games, says, "Returning to Liberty City and bringing it to life on a handheld system has been both nostalgic and extremely inspiring for us. The incredible PSP system technology allows for fans of the previous Grand Theft Auto titles to revisit Liberty City and see it from an amazing new perspective with an entirely original storyline. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will be a bold new experience that has never before been possible on a portable platform."

The Benz, President of Rockstar North, continues... "We've been very ambitious with Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. By collaborating extensively with Rockstar Leeds, we've been able to create a massive, uncompromising experience on the PSP system that we believe both long-time Grand Theft Auto fans and newcomers will be excited to get their hands on."

And finally, Gordon Hall, President of Rockstar Leeds, adds his own comments. "We have worked very closely with Rockstar North to bring the same integrity and production value of the previous Grand Theft Auto titles to the PSP system. People's expectation for a Grand Theft Auto title will always be very high, and we're confident that we can deliver a revolutionary experience. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will be the most intense and epic title created for the PSP system, undoubtedly setting the standard for this groundbreaking platform."

Billed as an entirely new kind of GTA, Liberty City Stories will "bring an unprecedented mobile dimension to this epic experience." While no real specifics are being revealed, we know that the game takes place in Liberty City and will feature the "interactive, open environment, superb voice talent and diverse music that have become pioneering trademarks of the series."

Actor, producer and writer Michael Madsen will voice the Main character in the game, Tony Cipriani.

• No planes or helicopters can be found in the game. • You control the player, Toni, using the analog stick. • Camera view can be changed using the analog stick. • Graphics is better than that off GTA3. • New landmarks are found in Liberty City. • R3 missions are included in the game. • Rockstar had a playable version of the game at E3 on the PSP. • Better draw distance. • Cars have great refelections. • The game's storyline is going to be as long as Vice City. • Unique jumps and hidden packages are scattered throughout the city. • Several type's of clothes can be chosen from the in-game wardrobe.

• According to OPS2, the combat system is even better than that of GTA San Andreas. • The game will have its own unique radio stations and a set of new licensed songs, but not as much as in San Andreas. • Liberty City Stories can be fit on the UMD cause R* and Sony got better with the technical stuff. • Cut scenes and missions will be a little shorter in time. (Where a mission in previous GTA's of 5 mins are now reduced to 2 mins. • This time they will be delaying the game to get it 100% done and not like GTA SA where they had to remove alot of features due to the lack of time. • R* thought of every playing habits that PSP users have. (Playing on the bus, home, at the train station etc.)

Toni is controlled using the PSP's analog stick The camera change function is operated by the select button Clothing changes are confirmed All of the cars from GTAIII + Bikes from Vice City will be included Reflection maps will be used on the cars It may take the average player almost as long as Vice City to complete the storyline Unique Jumps, Hidden Packages and Submissions (such as Vigilante and Firefighter) will be included

Here's some more information:

To target an enemy, players must now press =the "R" button and can cycle through targets =using the left and right buttons on the D-Pad

The on screen display (both radar and health =meters etc) will be semi-transparent, giving a =better view of the action on PSP's small screen.

MP3 playback from the memory stick will be =supported!

The clothing changes are said to be more akin =to San Andreas than Vice City

The magazine claims that the game is "80% =finished" Enemies are marked with a red dot, while on pursuit {like in the driver series)

Streets are still the same, but the "image" has changed a bit, due to the new time setting.

Some of the buildings that were seen in GTA3 aint (I just copied this directly from what they said, not my words -Strav-) in Liberty City Stories, cause remember its three years back.

Alot has changed; people wear different clothes and act differently than the pedestrians from GTA3.

R* did try and delete most of the constant pop-ups and fog.

Mirror and particle effects can be seen in the game due to the high-resolution display. (I think they already said this, but it sounded different, so I put it again)

Ammunition stores will make a return (what is GTA without guns?) and the article mentions that you can buy alot of "old" guns. Ranging from a typical 9mm to a MP.

As far as the graphics go, LCS looks a bit better than GTA 3, however in the OPS2 Australia article they mentioned that the PSP only has 90% of the PS2's graphics and processing power, but alot has improved in GTA and game developing over the past 4 years.

Liberty city Stories has new ideas and improvements from previous GTA's. However Rockstar will be bringing back some of the old features. Like bicycles driving through Liberty City, or Toni that will be able to change clothes, just like CJ could. Not to forget that the player can decide what he wants to wear, he can make make Toni wear a sport t-shirt or a tuxedo.]

· You will play as Tony Cipriani, voiced by Michael Madsen

· Takes place in 1998 in Liberty City

· Will only come out on the PSP and will never be released on anything else

· The map is basically the same as we saw in GTA III, but Shoreside Vale is almost twice as big this time around! It curls up to be above Staunton Island on the map.

· Toni will be able to shoot out tires, change clothes and bail from cars just like in Vice City and San Andreas.

· The storyline will be as long as the one in Vice City.

· There is a casino in St. Marks owned by the Leone's.

· The graphics are better than those in GTA III.

· There will be no planes or helicopters.

· Unique jumps and hidden packages will be in the game.

· Better draw distance than that of GTA III as well as car reflections will be included.

· In screenshots that I saw, I spotted Punk Noodles, the back steps of Luigi's Club, Salvatore's mansion, a bridge in Shoreside Vale, a PCJ-600, the same model of Police cars from GTA III, a sniper rifle, an Esperanto, a Swat Truck and more!

· Luigi's Sex Club 7 has been renamed to Paulie's Revue Pad for the era. Some buildings have been altered from 2001's GTA III to better represent the era.

· Rockstar said, "it's benefited from improvements in Vice City and San Andreas."THANXS to the help of the

First off, I'd like to say that's a lot of info and thanks for putting it all together.

Don't take what I'm going to say the wrong way.

I've read a lot of websites and magazine articles talking about LCS and I guess so have you.

You have obviously copied and pasted from all those different sources. I don't believe that you're pretending that this is all you're work. I know you're not. But I think it would have been better if you had separated each article and credited the source. A lot of crap is printed and it's sometimes hard to know who to trust. It's nice to know where the info comes from.

It would also make it easier to read if they were separated because nearly all the articles say the same info over and over. You've also copied their mistakes of saying "Paulie's Revue PAD" instead of "Paulie's Revue BAR" and "Toni is fresh back in the city after a while laying low, having offered a fellow mobster as a favour for Don Salvatore Leone." The original magazine says "offed a fellow mobster".

You did print some info that I hadn't seen before, but it would be nice to know where it had come from. I also think this should have been posted in the FAQ along with your other post about the release date.

Having said all that, I'll stop whinging, welcome you the forums and say Thanks for the post. It was very informative.

Yeah alot of that I have written on GTAPortable.com and TheGTAPlace, but anyway back to the point. I would like to thank carpetdweller pointing out that its actualy Paulie's Revue BAR and that "offed. I knew that sentence didn't make any sense.

Mostly those info came from

TheGTAPlace

GTA-PSP.net

and

GTAPSP.com

oh and I don't think it needs to be putted in the FAQ forum as I shall write it all into the Liberty City Stories site for GTA Network, with the design hopefully finished soon.

I agree 100% with carpet. It's a lot of great information, but hard to sort through. monocle.gif

I don't mind adding some of it to the FAQ if you'd like, but I won't do so until I see credible sources (not people claiming they heard it from Rockstar or Bigfoot), not just copied and pasted information. The FAQ needs an update, but I don't have any smacking brand new information.

And, I've heard you talk of this GTAnet LCS site. I thought the mods and admins voted against it? And why have any of us not heard anything?

· Takes place in 1998 in Liberty City

· Luigi's Sex Club 7 has been renamed to Paulie's Revue Pad for the era. Some buildings have been altered from 2001's GTA III to better represent the era.

· Rockstar said, "it's benefited from improvements in Vice City and San Andreas."THANXS to the help of the

Oh yes! I want to be able to give Toni a unibrow! dozingoff.gif

8 Ball will not be a main character in GTA:LCS, so it doesn't belong here. Instead, try the GTA4 forum for these sort of posts. smile.gif
