As for the sound problems, I don't see how it could exclusively be 'dodgey parts'.

 

I'm using a Soundblaster Live! 5.1 that worked fine with VC and GTA3. Creative's proprietary EAX only works in software mode with this card. I would call it a slight oversight by rockstar since this has been a pretty common pci card the last 3-5 years.

 

If you purchased a computer that uses integrated audio and video, well that's your own fault. Incase you didn't know it before, get a motherboard that let's YOU choose which type of sound and video card YOU want. If you want to feel safe that the game you buy is going to work, get products from the big 3 (ATI, NVIDIA, CREATIVE). Feel free to disagree with me.

 

On the other hand, you have games like 'Area 51' that are completely unplayable (because of visual anomolies on 'just' the npcs) with an ATI 9200 128. On the other hand, Doom3 and HL2 both run perfectly on my card. Any modern PC game should, out of necessity, support any modern ATI or NVIDIA card. ATI makes their own boards and both companies use unified drivers. GTA San Andreas wasn't a completely bugged game. But, I would have forgiven a PC launch that came a month or two after the XBOX launch to fix a few tiny complaints of mine (incomplete missions 'extra territories glitch', PC version doesn't have dualies, D-PAD POV switches cannot be programmed, axis configuration is a little shaky).

 

Since the biggest problem seems to be with the audio, hopefully they give users the option to turn off EAX.
