San Andreas Gangs, Based on real gangs?

Grove Street is Pirus(blood).

They're based on the Republican Space Rangers.

Both gangs have elements of each RL gang (e.g.: Ballas are the oldest gang like Crips, but the Crip infighting thing went to the Families).

Thats because R* doesn't want to take sides. not everything real life related is going to be used exactly the same, LC is a parody of NY, and doesn't share everything.

Copying everything is not Rockstar's style.

I agree about the Grove being blood. The whole rl gang pantheon is all mixed up in game 'cause it's a parody. I am looking forward to seeing the Hispanic gangs. They should be prolific and powerful. I think they are being kept under wraps for us to discover on our own!

Piru St, Compton, California.

Grove St, Ganton, San Andreas.

Plus they were originally going to wear orange to differentiate form the other Families gangs just like the Pirus in real life wear burgundy sometimes but they decided against it so as not to cause confusion.

They are just parodys for street gangs in general.

OFF Topic: I wonder if they will have Cartels.

The first 2 don't necessarily relate.

Plus, Orange is a Hoover color (Crip).

I never really made a connection between SA's gangs and actual gangs. Then again, I knew jack sh*t about gangs in the first place. tounge.gif

I'm wondering if GSF will be avoiding hard drugs like their 3D counterpart.

Also, to the folks who want Cartels, thank you, now you've got GTA III's Cartel member quotes stuck in my head. All I keep hearing now is "YOU GONNA BE SORRY!" and "YOU WANT THE CHAINSAW, GRINGO?". lol.gif

In San Andreas only the Grove Street set were against Selling Drugs. In Trailer 2 Franklin confirms that Lamar Slings Dope and in Franklin's Trailer it confirms that Lamar is a families member. It Depends there might be a families set that's against the sales of drugs but as of right now Franklin and Lamar's set isn't.

Since everything is a parody of something real life in GTA, the Grove Street and the Balla gangs are obviously imitations of the two most notorious gangs in LA, the Bloods and the Crips. But which is which?

What do they gotta do with this? lol they're mostly in NY & Connecticut.

OT I think Families is supposed to be bloods & Ballas are crips due to a couple sets IRL that share similar names with the sets in-game. Also because of where the SA sets are set up, they're also similar to some real life ones.

Here's what I want to know: who're the Rifas based off? A gang wearing suspenders seems outlandish to me.

The Mexican gangs should wear purple and green also to add realism. My things is I think that famz are bloods and ballas are crip, but sumtimes I do realize that grove st. had much older members e.g big smoke, emmet ect. maybe like the pirus grove was once apart of the ballas!

I'm pretty sure Groves are obviously based on Crips due to the fact alone that Ryder's character's based on Eazy-E

Surely, Rifas aren't based of any real gangs; surely, they were derived entirely from the imagination. Hispanic gangs (or any gang, for that matter) don't wear suspenders, do they?

I know absolutely nothing about this category of real-life gangs, so it would be nice if some basic information was included. For example, if you mention a subdivision of a gang then please mention its parent gang. (I know about KKK, Hells Angels and a few other MC gangs, but that's a different category I think.)

But I remember a gang called MS13 (or M13?) from a documentary on National Geographic, it was said to be a major gang. I don't remember if it was a black, hispanic, or mixed gang. But no one here mention MS13, are they not as good a candidate as any other?

And what real-life gangs could Vagos and Aztecas be based on?

Vagos & Latin Kings have the color yellow in common; that concludes that debate for me.

Although I don't know the trademark color of MS-13 (if they have one), they are a candidate for the Aztecas. MS-13 stemmed from Latin America (either Honduras or El Salvador, not sure which) with many members fleeing to California as refugees to escape economic turmoil. 18th Street is another candidate, but they only have roots in El Salvador (unless they expanded), nor do I know their trademark color (if they have one).

As for Da Nang & Triads, I have no idea.

Grove Street is Piru, Temple Drive Families and Seville Boulevard Families is Blood. Families is the alliance, we call each other "relatives" for a reason, because Families is like blood. "Families don't die we multiple", that's what us Jamas (Swahili for Families) say right? Relatives wear a green Rimmers jersey with the RED number 7 on the back for a reason. Since 1994 in my game, only two hoods in LS are Grove Street that's us Neighborhood Grove Street from Ganton and Westside Grove Street from Verona Beach, everybody else is just"Families" TDF, SBF, BGSF, and GPF. Front Yard Ballas is Neighborhood Rollin 60's, Kilo Trays is Eight Tray Gangster Crips, Temple Drive Ballas is Grape Street Crips, and Rollin Heights Ballas is Rollin 30's Crips. Front Yards don't get along with Rollin Heights and Kilo Trays in my game because they had a turf war in 1994 that started in East LS, then when Rollin Heights killed OG Big Rich's brother from Front Yard Ballas it "was on like Donkey Kong". KTB and RHB banded together against FYB in my game with the except of Willowfield.

When it comes to Vagos, Vagos are Eses, the state initials for San Andreas is "SA" that's some subliminal history for you. That's why Southern San Andreas Mexicanos are Eses. In my game they [Vagos] run with some Mexican prison sh*t called La Ese Mafia (LEM) or Mexican Familia. Since 1994 it's been Vagos 19 on the streets, Mexican Familia/LEM in prison who make em use the number "19" to rep the "S". The "S" stand for three things, the "S" in Los Santos, the "S" for Southern San Andreas, and the initials for San Andreas which is "SA". Rifas in the Bay never call themselves "Ese", they rep the R, Ere, number 18, Raza Familia in prison because they hate Vagos/Mexican Familia. It's all about SoSan VS NorSan with Mexicans in my game.

Yeah apparently Grove Street Families is based on Lime Street Pirus, a set of the Bloods gang that wear green for gang colors.

The Ballas are allegedly based on the Grape Street Crips, whose gang colors are purple.

that's it

Really, guys? I'm baffled that many are obsessed with whether Grove & Ballas are based off which of the generic Blood & Crips, as opposed to who the Triads, Da Nang & Rifas are based off.

Triads are based on, well, Triads. There are many different gangs with no centralized leadership. Rockstar did a really good job representing this. Notice the differences with the Liberty City Triads from III, and the Triads from San Andreas, the LC Triads were all about the drug trade (at least if memory serves me, that's what they were cooking up at their fish factory), the Mountain Cloud Boys were very anti-drug, Wu Zi assists CJ throughout the game with his efforts to eradicate the (hard) drug problem in San Andreas. As for the Rifa I don't know. Mexican Mafia? Sonrenos? Nortenos? I'm thinking the Aztecas were the Nortenos in the game, as they've allied themselves with the Bloods, but Norte, is northern Cali, and San Fierro is Northern Cali. So it's anybody's call. As for the Da Nang Boys I don't really know. Maybe ABZ? or the Tiny Rascals?

Grove is Blood, the Ballas are Crips. The Groves, as a number of members have stated, are based on the Lime Street Pirus (not sure if that name is right), they wear green and are located in Compton. The Ballas are based on the Grape Street Crips. Hence one of their sets is located near the projects that strongly resembles Jordan Downs Projects, where Grape Street is based.

I think the Groves also say "relative" when addressing each other, whereas Crips would always say "cuz".

Also that would explain why the Ballas were so much more powerful in the beginning of the game, as there (at least were) more Crips in LA than Bloods. Idk, maybe I'm wrong.

Where's all the internet bangers when you need them?

Blood, Crips, the others... are they pretty much the same in the way they operate and how they behave?

I'm still struggling to grasp what is so intriguing about Grove & Ballas being based off which of the uninteresting Bloods & Crips, and why there's 3 pages of this hype.

By chattering about them, you're not bringing forth anything that isn't already known. Also, Vagos being based off the Latin Kings isn't news either.

Considering Unused Gang 9 & 10 look identical to the Aztecas, I wonder who they're based off.
