Freddie
Hello, I hope someone here has experienced a similar problem to me and can help me solve this annoying issue. I can install the game fine, it loads fine, sounds all there and correct. I start to play the game then once I have completed the first mission (party) the game freezes and then my computer reboots. It happens at more or less the same point every time. I did manage to get through this part and got back to hotel (the game would have normally rebooted by now) and save it. This happened when I updated my graphics drivers so I thought problem solved, but that bug reared its ugly again when I was doing to second mission, whilst I was talking to Kent Paul. My specs are as follow 1) PC 2) Version 1.1 3) P4 2.4C Hyper threading enabled 4) 1024 DDR 500 Crucial Ballistix ram 5) Leadtech GeForce 6600 GT TDH, latest drivers (released 22nd June 2005) 6) Windows XP SP1 7) Direct X 9.0c 8) VIA onboard sound 9) No mods, no, no cd cracks 10) Haven't tried deleting settings file, although by the time someone gets around to posting I probably tired this 11) This is my second install and getting the same problem. I have tried running the game at different resolutions, different settings. Nothing in my computer is overclocked, all my components are running at normal temperature and are not over heating. I haven't experienced any similar problems with other and more demanding games (i.e. Rome Total War). I've run ad-ware to delete any spy software on my computer. I have had Vice city running fine on my computer in the past (I eventually sold the game on e-bay but brought it again yesterday and I have a reformat of my hard drive in that time). The only thing that I know is different is I have Microsoft active sync installed on my computer. I’m going try uninstalling again and removing all traces of the original game and disabled active sync and see if that makes a difference. In the mean time if anyone has any suggestions or knows what might cause the game to reboot my computer I would be most grateful for there insight. Thank you. Justin
Make sure to update your sound drivers as well as your video ones - they are just as likely to be causing the problem. Apart from that, I've got nothing. You've tried all the usual fixes. Freddie
Ok I unistalled and deleted the settings folder. I reinstalled and when I went to run the game it would't work (I didn't even get the title screen, the screen wpuld just reamin black) and I had to hard reset the computer. I've unistalled the game again and will try reinstalling it this time with the patch. Justin
Just a quick tip, there's an 'edit' button in the top-right of your post. People 'round here like you to use that instead of posting again. As to your problem, I suggest attempting to run the executable in 'Windows 98 mode'. Do so by right-clicking the .exe and selecting it from the available options. Also, have a look at the pinned bug list, as well as Take2 Games. They have a comprehensive technical help section - probably the best source of help you can get. Being a Brit I thought I would never say that about someone who lives in Australia. The game is working fine and so far no reboots. I wonder what it is about my current XP installation Vice City doesn’t like? I’m not to bothered just so long as I get that nostalgic feeling when playing the game, if you know what I mean. I’m going to stick around here and help others with their problems. By the way I could have used the edit button but the if I post new posts Its easier to follow what I have tried as its in a chronological order.
