LasDollas
Hi there. I had this annoying 'random-crash' problem with SA on my PC. It first occured one week ago after 2 days of playing perfectly fine and then it occured every single time when I started to play the game - sometimes after one minute, sometimes after 5 or 10 minutes - the game just RANDOMLY freezed and send me back to my desktop after some seconds. I tried all the tips that I found in this forum and in 3 or 4 other forums ... but nothing helped. Today I had a new idea: Maybe it's the file-system on my hard-disk... SA is installed on my C-partition: FAT32-filesystem (because I'm running Win98 and Win2k on this drive - but I'm only using Win2k to play). I thought something like "an up-to-date game needs an up-to-date filesystem". Well ... I know ... it ran perfectly on the FAT32-filesystem (and all other games do) until it suddenly started to crash randomly ... maybe it doesn't make that much sense ... but ... yeah ... why don't give it a try. Now SA is installed on my second partition - a NTFS-partition - and runs perfectly. Maybe it's the solution - Maybe it's the same damn thing like my C-Partition and it will start to crash again after some days of perfect playing. All I know at this moment is: I've played SA a whole day without crashing. (If it'll really start to crash again I'll gonne split my keyboard with my nose... I think ) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/199524-possible-help-for-random-crashes/ Share on other sites
LasDollas
Okay ... it crashed again after working more than one day (more than 6 hours of playing) ... I think the only thing I can do now is ... wait for the patch. Corn is Pure
My 180-gig or so drive is partitioned into a C: and D: drive, and since the C: partition was pretty much just to hold the OS, almost everything is on my D: partition. They're both NTFS and I get crashes quite frequently, although their number lessened greatly when I turned hardware acceleration on my sound down to nothing. So now I can't watch cutscenes (way out of sync) but the game is playable now. drownage
Your PC is overheating. This game for some reason makes PC's run real hot. I bet if you opened your system and had a fan blowing right into it you wont ever have that problem anymore. RogerWilco
LasDollars i think i might be having the same problem as your and it's not overheating. I had NTFS from the start. The ctds started after i finished the mission where the gym is unlocked Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/199524-possible-help-for-random-crashes/#findComment-2936144 Share on other sites
Daan17
I have also this problem. Game randomly crashes! I was playing fine 5 days after installation and in 6 day it started to crash. Only thing that "fixed" it was turning down sound acceleration in dxdiag. I mean "fixed" because game is crashing still! But now after about 1 hour of playing:( I have nVidia nForce2 motherboard and I have installed it on FAT32 disk. LasDollas
@ drownage: I'm running games like doom3 or half life2 without crashes for hours - I don't think it's a temperature-problem. @ Roger Wilco: With my first installation of SA, the game started to crash after I've finished the mission 'home invasion'. Yesterday, with my second installation, it started to crash after the mission 'catalyst', so I unlocked the gym only 2 or 3 missions ago. It seems like it depends on the progress in game. But it will crash again, if I start a new game. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/199524-possible-help-for-random-crashes/#findComment-2936326 Share on other sites
