I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card and in the game the problem is some sounds are cut off and some do not play at all. I remember reading about people having the same problem as you have, with surround sound or what not. You need to change some settings on the sound card. Just look around in that thread to see if you can find the correct solution.
