shagga
Firstly, i tried all fixes in stutter issues to no avail and i'm running a 6800GT with a 2.8 P4, DMX 6fire 24/96 and 1 gig and it was PANTS! So.....Its proberly your hard drive and fact PIO is active on one of the IDE channels.... Firstly - uninstall Daemon tools or Alchol 120% or whatever (XP defaults to PIO when the proggies are installed!) ENSURE your DMA is active. Go to control panel/system/device manager and check your primary/secondary channels ok? ENSURE they're not set for PIO - else your buggered and the stutter is the hard drive not being able to send data fast enough (PIO mode is just pants) Now to change it...... You have to go to registry thus.... Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} It has subkeys like 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Normally 0001 is the primary IDE channel, 0002 the secondary, but other numbers can occur under certain circumstances. You have to go through these subkeys and check the DriverDesc value until you find the proper IDE channel. Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected. Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA). Turn off Frame limiter (if you must) and off you go... bye bye....enjoy Shagga @ 3D guru. Daan17
I have in 0001 "secondary ide channel" and in 0002 "primary ide channel". If it's wrong?

shagga
Sorry guys, i should have come back sooner - this message seem to die! Anyway - the IDE channel is the harddrive (either primary or secondary) that contains the game. Once you know that.... Go to control panel/system/device manager and check your primary/secondary channels to see if DMA is active in both (it'll be greyed out). IF any the two greyed out boxes contain PIO mode, then you need to carry out this instruction, if they are already running in DMA (ultra mode 2 or 5 normally) then this is fine and your stutter problem lies elsewhere. This registry edit just ensures your drives are supply data to the graphics buss fast enough (you'll know if they're not as the system will be a little slower).
