True Crime: New York City

Recommended Posts

So I just went down to get the mail, and on the cover of this month's PSM, is "True Crime: New York City". I like inside and the screens actually look pretty good. I didn't really like "Streets of LA", but this one looks much improved. They did a great job recreating manhattan. Looks to have a good city vibe. What do yall think of this game that's looking to hit shelves this fall?

Sorry if it's already been brought up before I did look.

I'm pretty sure they heard the criticism of the demons/ghosts. I liked the game, although the city seemed too huge with not much to interact with or do. The only thing they did with it was put objectives on opposite ends, making you drive 20 minutes to start missions.

One of the things I hated most about Streets of LA was the lack of diversity, a lot of the building/areas looked a lot a like.. The screens in the mag make New York City look different so that's a plus. There's also landmark buildings and they have a comparison of downtown in real life to down town in the game and they're very similiar.

If they can make Manhattan better than Spiderman 2 I might check it out, the first one was great at it's time, because the features were somewhat surpassed the era of GTA, but now that SA is out, and this True Crime is coming after, I don't have faith in it anymore......

Oh BTW can you list some new features? The only tid-bit I've heard is that you can ride motorcycles and throw people's faces on stoves. IGN article

It'll certainly blow. One would think with the next-gen consoles less than a year away that Luxoflux would've developed the next game for those systems. But it's another current generation release so there's really no room for substantial improvement, except for the plot of course.

However, if they make the wise trade off of increased interactivity and detail for decreased map size and have a genuinely good story and fluent gameplay, then it'll be a winner. But I have no faith in those assholes.

After reading the articles, here's what I've found to be new features (i think):

1. You can arrest and interegate a random street pusher. You can then follow this lead and arrest his supplier, and so on.

2. As you clean up different neighborhoods, they'll change their appearance. (less trash, less grafitii, less boarded up windows)

3. if you do a sh*t job as a cop, you get demoted to regular uniform cop

4. motorcycles (you can also shoot guns while riding like in Gta

5. completely overhauled fighting system

6. shooting has been improved

7. improved driving physics and visual variety

8. you can mod cars

9. if you hit a car head on at high speeds, the driver will fly through the windshield

10. trains and subways

11. new and improved interiors

"From a gameplay standpoint, just about every issue you had with the original game has been mended and/or refined."

"True Crime: NYC is already looking like the game its predecessor strived to be. Its city is far more believable and visually varied, teh core gaming mechanics have been tuned and retuned, and the sheer diversity of almost every aspect of the game from mission objectives to its visual grace is nothing short of astounding."

Cool, you or someone should scan the pages, for the ultimate look at the game.

That sounds awesome! I liked the concept of True Crime: Streets of LA because arresting criminals and being able to do so outside the storyline was really fun. It's good that they are evolving on that especially with the neighborhoods looking better and being able to interrogate the perpetrators/suspects.

Well, this is how im gona gauge this game and the industry as far as how developers listen to the complaints about their games.

The Matrix: Path of Neo. If its a compleat turnaround from EtM (like it looks to be) then my faith in this game and a certian part of the industry will be restored. After Halo 2....too much dissapointment. Its like they dodged every single thing that made Halo 1 great but still managed to pump out another one of my favorite games.

However, like I said, Path of Neo... guess I'm just gona ahve to wait and see.

Philtheonearmedbandit

Is Nick Kang returning in this one? Because I hated that bastard, at least Driv3r had a likeable main character, Nick Kang was moron with really crappy one liners.

Also if I find gun toting zombies in this game... oooh, bad things will occur.

I did like some of the street crimes particularly the "Jacko the pop star" and "VD Debbie" ones.

I'm now scanning the OPS2 mag version, its got the same stuff as the PSM and the quality is pretty good too. Just gotta do the last page and then host them.

It looks good, I like the sound of the way the neirbourhoods change as you get better or worse (on page 4 up in the top right) and finally a night/day cycle instead of just full day or full night depending on the missions. And a new character too.

..I am so f*cking tired of PSM going on the newsstands before I get it.

I'M A SUBSCRIBER DAMN IT! I WANT IT FIRST!

x2

Although I have never played the first this sounds like it could be good, so I'll atleast rent it.

Medallion Man

True Crime...

All I know about True Crime is that the first game was a huge, steaming pile of sh*t. It was terrible. And I bought the c*nt. Which made me some kind of bell end that’s for sure.

I really, really hated the last True crime (as you can probably tell by now), everything about it was sh*te. The city was completely dead and boring, the story was derivative cheeseball drivel (yeah and as you say, what was with all that devil twaddle?!)and that Nick Kang tosser was about as annoying as Barney on speed. f*cking horrible.

Anything with a “bad ass” cop as it’s selling point is going to be cliched crap.

And I actually bought that game..what a tosser.

When I tried to take it back to EB after wasting the 8 or so hours that Nick Kang stole from me do you know what the goggle wearing little Tw*t behind the counter offered me?

3 of my sterling f*cking pounds!

Nick Kang violated my ass and I think I’m going to be scarred for life...

Needless to say Loxofflops or whatever they’re called have got their work cut out if they’re going to get my money this time.

Saying that though it does look good...although I thought the exact same thing last time and look where that got me...broke and with a sore arsehole (Damn Nick Kang and his too cool for school attitude and flashy ways...)

This thing about the transforming neighbourhoods is certainly interesting though, building on the city is one of the core areas I’d personally like to see Rockstar focus on in GTA4 and we’ve been discussing very similar stuff over in the Living City Thread so I’ll keep my eyes on it atleast.

I’ll watch it and I may rent it, generally though me and True Crimes have a bad history, lots of painful memories there.

I really really think they will be making improvements where needed. The neighborhood cleanup sounds fun, and if each neighborhood was different with lots of different side-crimes, this would be awesome.

The main problem with True Crime was it's repetitive gameplay. I liked shooting out of cars, slow motion, solving crimes, upgrading moves and weapons, but it was all so repetitive. It sounds like they're improving a lot.

No doubt I will rent it first as I bought the first TC as well, and was disappointed, but if you guys are calling this game sh*t just because the first was sh*t are being pretty ignorant.

Number 9 is the best feature I've seen so far, nothing but a rental for me...

Prejudiced more than ignorant matey.

It’s only natural that people will presumptively judge True Crime 2 on their (horrible) experience with the first game.

Personally I’d say that Luxxoflox have nobody else to blame for themselves on that score either, True Crime was the result of their (horrendously) shoddy workmanship afterall.

Beyond that only a total idiot would swallow all of the pre-release hoopla, this game may turn out to be a corker.

But I doubt it.

I am, bothered enough about it to post in a thread on it though so I will be watching it develop.

i'm looking forward to it, as it seems promising. but there should be more missions and more collectables, as the 20-30 missions in LA didn't use much of the huge map, and there were only 30 items to collect in the whole game.

i hope there will be no lasers (don't ask) this time; dragon, ghosts, demons, zombies aaarrgh!

Yeah, it looks like I'll have yet another game to add to my rental list.
