cparts
Hi all My system specs: Windows 2000 Pro SP4 P4 2.6 GHz 1024MB PC 2700 RAM NVidia GeForce 5200 128MB AGP The main problem I am finding is that the game occasionally slows right down. It doesn't become "glitchy", just runs in a very frustrating "slow-mo mode" for a period of time, then comes back up to normal speed again. This happens regardless of the video or audio settings, whether I'm in a vehicle or not, whether there are a lot of other things going on around me or not etc. etc. Does anybody else experience this (or have any ideas for a work-around perhaps)? TIA, Royston Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/199199-game-speed-problem/ Share on other sites
maf
intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz 512MB DDR333 (PC2700) WinFast A340 T GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR [Forceware 71.89] Pioneer 16x DVD-106S Creative Sound Blaster Live! TDK MP100 Headphones/Creative PC Works Speakers Windows XP SP1 === You've got almost the same specs as me. Yeah, a couple of times the game has done what you described - a slowdown to like 1-2 frames a second, then back to normal again. Guess it could be a background process, or the system trying to get more memory for the game. Or it could be our 5200 video cards... Not really sure. Studbeefpile
I get this problem in certain parts of the map. When i ride through said areas, I get extremely bad frames, and when coming out of them, frames go back to normal. I've narrowed my problem down to visual fx. Medium, High and Very High yield the same fps, but when put to low, I don't get these slowdowns. Don't know if it's the same for you. I'm glad that option was there, because on the day I installed it the frame rate was unplayable. On 'Low' the dynamic shadows are gone, and possibly some other small terrain detail, but the frame rate is much better at around 20-25fps. This is at 1024x768 32bit, Frame Limiter ON, Anti-Aliasing OFF, Mip Maps ON. Polarize
If you guys turn off frame limiter, it will look better in places that arent graphic intensive, but will stay looking bad in laggy areas. Might as well have some areas look good rather than all places looking 'average.' MtL Neo
Ya I am gettin the same problem. I tryed doing the registry idea but that didnt do anything and i have all of the settings like you all have them. I do have the Nvidia Geforce FX5200 card as well. Maybe eventually rockstar will come out with a patch. But as of now I will be getting another graphics card. I am going to get a Radeon. maf
I think it's just a glitch in the game with certain system configurations that a patch will hopefully fix. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/199199-game-speed-problem/#findComment-2941743 Share on other sites

I'm glad that option was there, because on the day I installed it the frame rate was unplayable. I get pretty good frames even with Visual Effects on. It's only small parts of the map that do it. Still can't figure out what it is exactly. First I thought it was the overhanging wires casting dynamic shadows, but then there are plenty of other places that have more wires and don't have these slow downs. And for visual effects, I can't see anything it does other than dynamic shadows and grass...
