Zach
I figured that now that I'm done with the game, I'd turn my attention to modding the engine a bit just for kicks. I stumbled across the thread about creating a super car, and thought, "Great! That's exactly what I had in mind. What a lucky find!" (Thanks, Arvin!) The other aspect I wanted to change was the vehicle's weight. My absolute favorite past-time in GTA:VC was to load up Lith Joe's trainer and enable the "solid granet car" cheat and then drive around having everyone bounce off me. (Don't ask me why. It just makes me laugh everytime I do it.) Anyway, thinking logically, it doesn't seem likely that Lith Joe would have implemented customized handling for each and every car in the game, so there probably must be just some common engine parameter he was tweaking to accomplish this feat of making it seem like your car was super heavy. Too late, but long story short, set_car_density_to seems to be used a lot in the game's script, either setting it to 0.0 or 1.0 (and sometimes even to 0.5). This always seems to be used in conjunction with set_pedestrians_density_multiplier_to, i.e., they are both always set as a pair. Does anyone know specifically what these two opcodes do? I mean what effect they have on gameplay? [rant]One day, search will be reenabled, and I won't have to waste people's time with noob questions. Opius
Search IS re-enabled. Anyway, those opcodes control how many cars and peds are spawned at random. 1.0 is normal, with around five cars in traffic, and maybe ten or so peds. 0.0 disables all random spawning. Anything inbetween is a fraction of the normal amount. And, as a note, anything about 1.0 does nothing. They'll just spawn as if it was set to 1.0. Zach
Search IS re-enabled. Awww, now you are just trying to make me look bad. On my honor, I swear to you that I tried the search function immediately before I posted the above (just to make sure), and I still got that now familar "Menu has been disabled" page!! Trying it now, though, it does indeed appear to be working again. Anyway, back on topic.... Okay, that makes sense, particularly since both the car and ped codes are always used together. Darn. I guess I'll just have to figure out some other way of making my car (and my car alone) super heavy. Thanks for the quick reply! And thanks for reenabling the search function!! EDIT: Hmmm... Searching through the OpCode Database, there seems to be an untested opcode named "make_car_heavy". Heh.. how obvious.
