The_Dancing_Cat Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 I just made this topic because I'd like to hear some tales of really bad mistakes made in missions/side missions that ended in failure, perhaps at a very crucial part. Mine would have to be today, actually... I was zipping around San Fierro on a Police Bike, doing some Vigilante missions which I have been dreading. I found I was doing quite well, despite the helicopters coming after me (you would think the SFPD would be grateful for the assistance!). I was currently completing Level 10, and I hadn't got that far before on any of the GTAs ( ). When I turn the corners, I tend to move the camera as well so I can see what is ahead of me. I moved the camera; and pressed down on R3. The mission ended, I was sooooo pissed off. It was even worse because it was my fault So, come and share your tales... Happened way more in Vice City though, on the beach, that always sucked. On a storyline missions...uhh, I don't know. Officer Pulaski Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 dumbest mistake i made was Breaking the bank at Caligula's at the very end of the mission I tried to get the parachute but nothing happened so im standing there not knowing, so i kill all the S.W.A.T. guys and i still cant get it, so I jump off the building and die try it again, same thing, except this time I thought mayebe I have the same type weapon as the parachute so I pressed L1 and it worked I didnt know that the Goggles and the Parachute were the same category Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

pixelrage Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 I forgot which mission it was, but it was a really annoying one that I never wanted to do again. I finally finished it, then drove back to the save point, but I was a lazy idiot and drove offroad. My car eventually hit a hill, toppled over and fell in a valley, I kept hitting the button to get out of the car, but I couldnt...so it blew up and I died, and had to do everything all over again. I didn't realize they were on my side since they *were* shooting at me. The second time I did Pier 69, I made the mistake of driving the boat right into Easter Basin next to that aircraft carrier. oops..... During the C.R.A.S.H. mission to the desert to grab a dossier, the guy managed to get to his helicopter before I could stop him. While chasing him, I flew over the no fly zone in the middle of the desert. Didn't notice the surface to air missiles until they'd already flown up my ass During the "rob the liquor store" mission for Catalina, I made the mistake of trying to jump over the broken bridge on the way home. Put us both in the river and it killed Catalina me. During the betting shop robbery, I didn't understand how the satchel charges worked at first, so I ended throwing them all against the door before I realized I had to switch to the detonator button. So, wielding high tech equipment, i sneaked into the high security compound of Area 69 like Sam f*cking Fisher himself, neutralizing highly trained soldiers left and right, fighting my way into the heart of the mysterious complex, disabling SAM sites, and finally escaping with a 50 Million Dollar Jetpack on my back. I made it and managed to land on top of the rock tower that The Truth selected as rendezvous point. All that was left to do was to return to the airstrip. So i grabbed a cross motorcycle that conveniently parked on the peak of that rock tower and began driving home... just a little too fast... On the road downhill my bike hit a wooden fence and i was catapulted off it... right into a 100 feet deep crevice... *splat* Wasted... Mission Failed! Fortunately I found a nice little small town South of Las Venturas to do the ambulance missions, but I think I was doing the firetruck ones in Los Santos awhile ago. I got up to level 11 I think, and it had started raining. You'd think this would make my job easier, however rain doesn't affect them. Anyways, I was chasing some guy down, he stopped or turned or something, I braked and was sliding in slow motion...you'd think the guy would dive out of the way or something, however he didn't and I ran him over. I used to try and do those in Vice City, and I would never brake fast enough and the invalids would get squished under the ambulance. I got so frustrated. I used to just shout, "Well, there's your ambulance!" It'd be dead good if the rain put out fires...It would certainly be more logical! It's worse when you fail when you're really close to finishing something @pixelrage: Yeppers, there's a room off the side as you going through the complex...stand in the red marker to switch 'em off And it means it won't shoot at you when you try to leave Area 69 in that particular mission. It'll still shoot at you after that if you fly overhead. I always thought it was a Hydra on my ass, shooting me with missiles, but nope, was the blasted SAM gun thingy. jools1980 Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 Vertical Bird, 1st Attempt I blow my cover, some technician rings the alarm and I have to kill all the soldiers on the carrier, but can easily get to the Hydra. I take off and just fly it quite fine altho it's my first time on it. Big luck helps me, because I fly the Hydra under the two bridges (those spanning NE of SF), and all the chasing planes just crash themselves into the bridge. I get to the spy boats and manage to sink them after a long time of circling around trying to get a 'red' lock-on... I then fly back to my airstrip, and, trying to land, just screw everything up. I hit some rock just before hitting the strip, the Hydra goes on fire and eventually blows up, after I've landed. I'm wasted, the Hydra is history, mission failed. Tho, the mission was so fun I laughed my arse out, and playing it over again was a true pleasure. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's also speedy on a straight and easily smashes other cars out of the way. The best place to do the side-mission is in Montgomery, most of the patients will spawn right in the little town itself or the other two towns to the east and west. Also, in that one mission where you take back Mad Dogg's mansion, I landed with the Triads, and the first wave of enemies came. The Triads were taking care of them, until I threw a "well-placed" molotov, which killed all the Triads, took half my health, and didn't even touch the enemy. They promptly killed me. oli_86 Posted June 24, 2005 Share Posted June 24, 2005 I was doing the 2nd woozie street race (the one with fast cars) and it was all right, at first it was a bit tough but i eventually got the lead, after a couple of minutes of racing i was very far ahead of the others, but the car had been smoking for a long, so i took it easy, and right before the finish line, at the last building, i spin and ram the wall, car on fire, boom! "Just don't make any big mistakes and you can cruise to victory." I say to myself. The next guy to pick up is away from the roads so I'm cutting through that park just south of the hospital, you know, the one with that goofy "sculpture" that looks sort of like a curved ramp. Yeah, you know what's coming. I was looking at the map in the corner trying to figure out where the patient was and I rolled two wheels up the sculpture and tipped the ambulance over on it's side. So I jump out thinking "I'll push it back onto it's wheels." Mission over. I guess they don't give you 20 seconds to get back in the vehicle the way they do on the vigilante missions. Bernard Jazz Posted June 24, 2005 Share Posted June 24, 2005 In grove 4 life (i think) i took sweet to the ballas hood and parked on the pavement, sweet then got out of the car and got himself ran over.. Mission failed.. Also in cop wheels i had one more police bike to get, i got the combat shotgun out and shot the police biker, and a stray bullet hit the bikes gas tank.. Mission Failed as well.. eos666 Posted June 24, 2005 Share Posted June 24, 2005 ok the most funny screw-up so far was during the mission where u go to that army depot and steal crates with the forklift my buddy was shooting the soldiers while iwas driving the forklift with a crate on it...i was in a hurry and tryed a backward-turn maneuver, and since the camera is kinda sluggish i couldnt see what was behind me...so there i was, going full speed backward and about to do a brake/spin around, when -splat- i hit my mission buddy in full speed....mission failed lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
