Ministry
Hi. Here is the problem I haven’t noticed anyone else has. I bought the game, installed, started. It’s ok for a wonder. Except for one bug. It was night in the game and I noticed that the sky is striped. Then I had a close look at the objects and realized what was wrong. It’s 16 bit color depth. Though in advanced settings 32 bit is set. But when I change it to 16, the picture becomes so ugly – it’s 8 bit, I can tell it with the naked eye. So it should be – 16bit, 32bit But actually it’s – 8bit, 16bit Does anybody have the same bug and maybe even know how to solve it? And don’t tell about my hardware or drivers. I know my PC too well, besides a bundle of other games works fine. Thank you.
Overture
What are your specs? You might know your hardware, but we dont. Given that this problem hasn't been raised before, it seems fairly specific to your rig. Although, the GTA engine isn't exactly about eye-candy, but it seems more than that. Can you post a screenshot please? Cheers
Ministry
Sorry, I should have done it at once. I just know it’s not my hardware or drivers because I never experienced such a problem before. Right now I have on my computer HL2, Far Cry, Riddick, GTA3 GTA3-VC - no problems I have 2 operating systems Win-2000 Sp4 with DirecrX8 and video driver 45.23 WinXP SP1 with directX9c and video driver 71.84 San Andreas has the same bug on both. Athlon XP 2000 on mother NForce2 Ultra 512Mb PC2700 Audio – integ. ALC650 realtek GeForce 4200Ti 128Mb Asus I don't know how to attach screenshot. I'll try now... No, help. How to attach? Overture
If the bug happens on both PC's it sounds very much like an actual bug in the game against your card, considering the diversity of the two installs. re screenshot, You might have to store it somewhere, i.e. open an account at photobucket.com, then link it in here. You could also try a) delete the gta_sa.set from the my documents/gta san andreas user files/ directory, then b) make sure the display is set to 32 bit color, and finally c) change the shortcut so that the game runs in win98/me compatibility mode. As an afterthought you could try dropping the level of video accelleration in DXDIAG (just to try it, you never know) Considering your video card, it might boot the game up the arse and get it going. Rage18
you shouldent notice a big difference between 16 and 32.
Overture
IS very odd, because it means your video card is lying to the software. Usually, If it can't find 32 bit mode truly, it won't even boot the game. Strange.
Ministry
Ok I'll try it tonight but have a hunch that I might as well tear the bills I paid for the game apart. Alas. Now the screenshot. Have a look at the sky.
GTA3Freak-2001
I believe that's part of the game engine, I too noticed this and went straight to my settings to make sure it was set on 32bit which it was. It only happens when the sky is clear and at a certain time.
Ministry
Ok. If it’s really the part of the engine so everyone must have it on his machine. But why hasn’t anyone still reported it here? It’s really conspicuous and extremely annoying. I remember with admiration magnificent sunsets in original GTA3. How can the same people who created GTA3 do what they have done in SA. Or maybe they were not the same???

stupornaut
I get this too -- it's really bad not just in the sky but the character models and vehicles, too. Really obvious during in-game cutscenes where it looks like Tenpenny et. al. are wearing camo fatigues in 5 shades of blue-black and the cars have obvious lines where there should be gradients. I have: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.1 ghz 1 GB RAM ASUS GeForce 6600; 256 MB DDR whatever onboard sound card came with my computer (a Compaq Presario) Forceware version 77.72 My framerate is playable but not all that smooth, either, with the 4x draw distance and most settings at slightly better than average (1x AA; High details; 1024x768x32; frame limiter off). But that's probably for another thread.
Rage18
the sky sucks because its some kinda bug in the game. it looks the same 16 or
stupornaut
So the sky sucks, the vehicle textures suck and the player character textures suck, and there's nothing that can be done about that? Eh, at least I can still do cop chases up Chiliad.
