Blinking Textures & AA Glitches

Recommended Posts

The Player.

Well, this is rather annoying so I really do need your help.

The first glitch happens sometimes, but not always. It can be spotted on some small surfaces (little table etc.), rocks and roads. It seems like the object has 2 textures and they are instantly flashing and blinking trying to replace each other. The second part often happens when you look on the road from a top view. The texture doesn't appear (or maybe it's just TOO blurry). Reloading game or just getting out of this place helps, but can it be fixed in a more regular way?

Also when I turn on antialiasing (even 2x) some edges have contours, especially on the characters' faces, for example, if you look from a rather far distance on somebody face, you'll notice it. It can be seen in the first cutscene when policemen ask CJ to get out of the car. I suppose this is caused by incorrect mirroring the textures (as we know, some of the characters' textures are stored only for a half of a face, the second half is mirrored from the first), so on the place where texture merge you can spot this artifact.

My videocard is Radeon X800XL and I figured out that SA runs only on Catalyst 5.2 and older versions. But the glitches do not seem to get fixed. Please, help me, I'm really stuck because of these things.

The Player.

I shot some screens to explain you my problem.

The first situation.

I started new game and just in the beginning started hopping, jumping and climbing the fences and houses. Look here:

And the second situation can be seen in the very first cutscene with AA:

Well, the second problem might be unavoidable without rahkstar2.gif intervention since it's a texture-join issue, but the first one?

Well, changing textures can be a problem with close-camera action, that I can tell, but texture changes are usually more related to mip-mapping and bi/tri linear filtering.

Mip-mapping being the partial use of multiple texture qualities on the one surface to simulate fading detail over distance and reduce rendering Maybe disable mip-maps?

Either way, sounds more like an engine issue. It's not exactly an eye-candy sort of game.

The only glitch that got in the way for me so far was during a mission where you have to dress as a valet and do stuff with the car. The car I was waiting for never showed up. I assume some stupid crazy cab driver got pissed at it and rammed it till it got jammed next to an invincible sign or something.

:-)

(The car came second-time around, so it's all good. Suspend your disbelief)
