but surely someone else has the same box I do?

I'd be curious to know if anyone else with the 2 port super-joy from lik-sang (it's also sold on ebay a lot) gets rumble or analog support from the second stick?

Yup, I use the 2 port super joy or whatever its called, its blue with two PS2 inputs, force feedback works well with the lik sang driver and SAAC.

You should be able to just get a PS2 controller, cut the connection off, splice on a USB plug, get the correct custom driver off the net and you are done.

Not everyone can really do that, so the adapters help save time and electric damage. Did you make one of these? Would be cool to see how it came out. wink.gif

Hey there, great guide.

Can someone post BruceDickensons SAAC and Joy to Key config files? They've both expired.

Thanks in advance. wink.gif

Hello All,

I am using SAAC with the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 and it works great!

Quick question, is it possible to somehow set things up so that you can still use the mouse to aim and shoot? I prefer to use that during missions that you are in a car or whatever with a stationary gun and are having to shoot things. Without SAAC, you would normally have to pause the game, switch the settings to mouse+keys and there ya go, but for some reason when I'm using SAAC, that method doesn't work.

Thanks,

-Kevin

I'm afraid you would need the controller configured like SAAC, but rather in-game. Rockstar needs to solve this issue with a patch.

btw, check out ToCA Edit's new camera hack v1.1: http://toca.game-editing.net/index.php

Very nice!

I am having a bit of trouble using my PC controller with that program. The problem is that the right analog stick is set to do the same functions as the squaretriangleX and circle buttons, or something similar to that. For example, pushing right on the right analog stick, does the same thing as the triangle button.

It is a PowerWave PC Controller™. A picture for idenitification process:

Any help? Perhaps you know you of a program that will help me to remap the controller itself, and not just the controls to the game.

The SAAC method. I think it may be an actual problem with the controller being told that the same commands are accessed by the two alternate methods.

Yes, I have a feeling it is. I would suggest a ps2 controller w/ the psx-to-usb adapter, or a cheaper one with similar controls (hopefully analog)

I may have solved it. My controller had a sort of analog/digital button. (similar to that of the PS2). I haven't tested it yet, but it seems to work in calibration testing. Thanks for you help.

supersocialist

A couple people have mentioned using usb joysticks to simulate the ps2 controls. I used a Logitech Thrustmaster Firestorm 2 with Vice City. It has l/r1, 2, and 3 instead of just 2. These replace the start/select position buttons, but for most in-game use they're more convenient to use, especially when you have to get multiple buttons at once. They're available with and without force feedback.

Eventually I wandered into a Best Buy and saw the Nyko Airflo EX. I paid $15 for one online, it has a fan that keeps your hands from getting sweaty, and I've used Joy2Key to enable analog driving without camera glitches. For some reason SAAC runs, stays resident, but doesn't pop up and doesn't affect controls, so I can't comment on how well it works with usb dual analogs.

Assigning the POV hat to keys in Joy2Key is already described above. San Andreas still reads it as movement/steering, but if you just tap the buttons or tap and hold for about half a second, they seem to work fine. I have them change radio stations, gang control, and yes/no. I'm not sure what the ps2 uses them for.

Ok. San Andreas uses the right stick to control camera and for the special vehicle controls, and Rockstar seriously needs to let us disable this in the patch. (You can disable at least the cam control by setting the controls to mouse-keyboard mode but then you lose targetting. I guess SAAC would fix this.)

In order to fix the camera, all I did was assign multiple button presses to the right stick y axis (which in my case, Joy2Key called axis 3). There are three slots and I use two: first it accelerates, then hits special control down to counteract the camera jerk. Down gets brake and special control up. Left and right still look side to side, but you could disable this by using special control left on the right axis (axis 5>0 on mine) and special control right on left (axis<0). You can no longer look up/down while in a vehicle.

The next problem you'll have with this setup is flying the Hydra: depending on how your joystick 2 y axis is set in San Andreas, you might be unable to control the thrusters properly. If up/accel is mapped to special control up, you'll be stuck in hover mode or return to it every time you accelerate. Invert the axis under the options menu to map special control down to up, and you'll be able to fly the Hydra. It will be difficult to hover. If you still have the digital accelerator key mapped, you can hover that way.

So... not perfect, but I can see where I'm going now.

Why would anyone use anything but a mouse in this type of game? If you try to play a game like Battlefield2 with a game controller versus a guy with a mouse, you will get pwnzorz cry.gif

supersocialist, I use a PS2 with USB converter and other than using the right analog stick for accel/decel SA runs exactly like the PS2 version, with one caveat. If you use X to accel then you get the camera glitch. I have run the game twice to 100% and I must say using the stick is no big whoop. Flying the hydra also is easy, using the X and Sq. to move thrusters up and down is a breeze. I am not sure wat your config is but Ill be hapy to provide mine if you want it.

skyjack, THEY ONLY THING I use a mouse for in this game is aiming when Im on missions where Im not driving. Mouse aiming make the impossible (with a PS2 controller) into childs play with a mouse, pure and simple.

Can you aim with the mouse manually while riding on a motorcycle?

That mission with smoke chasing the train was a bitch, because cj couldn't even hit the guys on the train and smoke took forever to kill even one.. I passed the mission by driving far ahead out onto the rocky road lift right when your leave the tunnel the train goes through. I used auto aim with the M4 and capped all their asses before they passed by.

first off i wanna say good job on the saac, got my analog workin nicely. however, the presets seemed to be pretty off; fire was x, accelerate o, start was select and stuff like that.. so i hadda reset everything based on these.. http://www.gtagaming.com/sanandreas/ps2controls , which are what they're supposed to be as far as i can remember.. (right?).

however, i dont seem to be gettin any force feedback support, on a dualshock2 w/ radioshack usb adapter plugged inta the main (not thru hub) and with the driver wolf posted.. i was wonderin how i can test out the overall functionality of ff and also the vibration on my controller, and/or how to get it up in SA?..

as far as vibration support, is anyone findin a way to make it work? afterall, its the same game that went up for ps2, just with the textures and stuff redone; so its in there somewhere, just a matter of implementation. although it doesnt surprise me sa doesnt have full ps2 controller support, afterall they did have that deal with Sony to not release sa for pc till a year after the ps2 release (or so they threatened.. ), so im sure they'd rather you just buy a ps2.

you gotta admit tho, it looks so much nicer on pc. too bad it runs so slow. i remember vice city worked just as smooth on my PIII 600 as gta3 when i got it. but san andreas? no. i have to set the draw distance almost all the way down and all fx down to medium, still lags when it rains and stuff tho. kinda disappointing consinderin i have a P4 2.8ghz @ 512mb and ati radeon 128mb... j\w, what am i missing here?

If you complete that Xbox config file for SAAC, I can add it to the main tutorial with your credit. wink.gif

SystemOverload

I am not sure if anyone has posted this but Windows is not capable of having digital button force feedback. Because when you press down on the controller it processes it as either a 1 or 0 and there is not anything in between. I had to figure this out the hard way after fiddling around for a while. Lets just hope Microsoft stops being so lazy and starts to fix this problem!

I purchased a psx to usb from radio shack and it has force feedback drivers and when I go to game controllers in the control panel and test my controller it does provide force feedback.

Yea, but I wouldn't worry about the vibration part.

I ran Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance on my PC with a ps2 controller and it had some good vibration during game play.

I believe that's for the analog sticks..and, if I'm not mistaken, the d-pad as well.

I'm not sure about the actual buttons having force feedback, such as X, O, Triangle, or Square..etc

I just patched the game and now the game crashes every time I load up SA with saac 1.2 running in the background. I haven't done anything different from before. Also the joy to key link seems to be down. When I do the in game replay I get no sound but everything else works fine, no problems with sound effects or music in regular game play just absolutely no sound during replay. Thanks for the help.

I use saac 1.2 with my ps2 controller and everything works fine but I noticed I'm unable to shoot with my mouse while I have saac 1.2 running, does anyone know of a way getting around this because I'd prefer to use my mouse for shooting when I use the sniper rifle, thanks.

edit: Never mind now assholes, I found the answer with no help from you.

Sounds like some major issues with your software and maybe your analog controller hardware. The patch may have changed some code for the controls, but I doubt it.

It's not a problem, because the software is "third-party". Therefore, it is run as a second process.

I see were your going though, and it would be nice to have a "game mod" that implements SAAC 1.2's features.

Will this method(?) work on GTA III as well?

Not with SAAC, but you can use JoyToKey with any game. All you would have to do is reconfigure the "settings" to fit your needs for GTAIII.
