*** What Are Your Display Settings? ***

I was hyped up for this game and all until I actually played it, and noticed how poor the FPS was.

Lets see... I have a:

Dell Inspiron XPS

3.4 GHZ H/T P4

512 DDR RAM

80 GB HD

128 ATI RADEON 9700 MOBILITY GFX CARD

And the game runs like crap. I tried it at the high settings, and it definitely is bad.

The only time it runs good is when I set the Visual FX to Low, but then everything looks crappy. I have Anti Aliasing only to 1, Draw Distance to 3/4, res to 1024x800x32, Frame Limiter off, Details to Low. Yet it's still not very smooth and the FPS is very jumpy.

WTF? I even did a complete defrag on my comp, did spyware checks, etc.

Got a solution?

Yeah unfortunately the game seems to have problems with certain hardware combinations, it may have some memory leak or something. Hopefully its something that will be fixed in a patch which is certainly needed for so many different problems.

3.0 Ghz P4, 2x 512 Mb PC-3200 In Dual Channel, 9800 XT, WDC Raptor 2x RAID 0, SB Audigy 4 Pro and Logitech Z-5500 Digital. I get 85 constant (no lower or higher than that) because I have VSync turned on. GFX settings I play with are up to the max including Level 3 Antialiasing in the game and 16x Anisotrophic Filtering

what the fux?

How did you do that, how many MB is your graphics card?

Is it because you have VSync turned on or your high memory that's letting you get such good FPS?

Where can I turn on VSync? I WANT FPS LIKE THAT!! sad.gif My computer should be able to handle it sad.gif

Even on the lowest possible settings, I still get FPS around 20 (and down to 10 in the city, etc.) confused.gif

i had troubles with the fps on the video setting 800x600x32 , medium graphics setting . i dropped the color depth and raised the resolution to 1024x768x16 and pushed the graphics up to very high and i doesnt tick anymore . if anyone is having fps issues try dropping the color depth to 16 insted of 32 , this might help some .

" (pc specs)

Pentium 4 3Ghz , 256 DDR running at 133 , geforce 5200 8x agp

hard drive running at ATA 100 ." onboard sound " no audio glitch"

i've seen the AI on the game commit suicide from the parking garages , is that normal ? they lay on the ground and ppl flock to look at them .

I've also noticed the game locks up after some missions too , and i have to reset my computer , but thats only when using a trainer .

Wowsers that's an impressive framerate u lucky bugger wow.gif

Well I've said it b4 and I'll say it again - I'd be happy if I could vsync @ 60hz.. P4 3.2, x800xt 256, 1G corsair 3200xl at low latency.

Even with the resolution and detail settings at low, it still regularly drops below 60..

So my system squats on yours but yet performs far worse..

Waiting for patch,

Like waiting for chickens to hatch,

If only it was a bad batch,

may aswell smoke some hash..

My specs are:

P4 with HT at 3.2 Ghz

Ati Radeon x800pro 256 mb

1 GB of DDR2 dual channel RAM

Maxtor 250gb Hard Drive

Audigy 2 Platinum

And I run the game at 1204x1240(or the one close to that) at AA on full settings (with detail on high) and it runs at a constant 60 FPS. Its strange that other people run the gsme so slowly even when their comp is better!

i had to respond because i have pretty much the same rig as system overload, however, im running an AMD processor.

are there specific settings either in-game or on the video config tool that you set up to run it.

im getting lag no matter what settings i seem to put in.

im thinking i just have to wait for a patch and hope for the best...but who knows.

I'm just responding to let yu guys in on some .set files you can try out to see if your machines perform better. links in my sig.

no sir, gta3freak, im not tryin to milk that praise happy.gif

i appreciate the help but it didnt seem to fix the trouble.

i dont have any problem changing settings from within the game, i seriously do not think it is as simple (although i wish it were) as in-game graphics settings. i can run things like splinter cell 3, doom 3, UT all at highest settings with no trouble. this game, all settings to lowest, i cant even walk without lag.

very odd.

im willing to accept that it is a hardware specific bug...i just wish there was some way to correct this problem other than waiting for a patch (last game that i bought requiring a patch was kotor2, which was at least playable while i waited)

For my system, the main performance hit I notice is from the Visual FX. I can run everything on high and 1280x1024x32, and generally frames stay above 35. But in some areas where there are plently of overhanging wires that cast dynamic shadows, the frames get killed to about 20. There are only a few of these localised areas throughout the game, but still it's very off putting when going through them. I've noticed when dropping to 1024x768x32, with the same settings, these exact same areas don't have any effect what so ever (on performance). It's funny, my frames don't change when having draw distance low or high, and resolution makes no difference, unless I have high vis fx.

try this

go to start>run>enter regedit

go to edit>find>enter "device presence" search for every instance of it

there should be 3 files

(default)

emulated

VxD

WDM

if they're all set to 1 change VxD and WDM to 0,if emulated is set to 1 and VxD and WDM to 0 set emulated to 0

and VxD and WDM to 1

Hope this works

I have also R9700. It's very strange but on 800x600x32, details set to medium and 1/4 draw distance game was running slow. When I changed to 1024x768x32, very high, full draw distance and AA x 3 game runs fine!

Only thing that game crash after doing missions. For example I've done a mission, now I'm riding to the "safe" and game crashes to desktop!!! I hate this devil.gif

After reading a lot of posts on FPS complaints (since I too have them) its pretty clear. Only way for people with high-end systems to get decent (60+) fps is to own an Audigy card! You are the only one I've seen carrying an Audigy 4 and your fps is the best. Would be interesting to test this theory. Does anyone with good computer WITH an Audigy card get bad FPS?

And apparently many issues are related to sound. I myself get 30 more fps just by doing the above fix posted by UserPlay. Unfortunately that makes the cutscenes sync badly but the framerate is fine. It's obvious the graphics or the processing power aren't the issue here. I could bet a lot on that I get 100+ fps if I bought a brand new audigy card.
