Jerk85 Posted June 19, 2005 Share Posted June 19, 2005 HAS ANYONE RECEIVED GOLD FOR BASIC SEAMANSHIP ON THE PC VERSION??? I think this must be a glitch. It was reported in the schools thread, but it's driving me crazy. I know at least one other person has encountered this. All ps2 threads and FAQ's say better than 10s gets gold. I 've beaten 10s many times, and my record is 9.72s. I don't think it's possible to do it much faster. Is there any way to beat this? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Zach Posted June 20, 2005 Share Posted June 20, 2005 I had the same problem. I got Silver my first try (who didn't, right?), so I then tried about 30 more times to get Gold but couldn't. I finished the other tests (all Gold) and then continued on with my game, but now I'm wondering if maybe leaning forward or leaning back might have helped increase the boat's speed. Basic SeamanshipGold Criteria Finish Time: Less Than 9.6 Seconds (Roughly) Damage Penalty: 0:00 Overall Time: Less Than 9.6 Seconds (Roughly) I also took a look at a School FAQ @ GameFAQs written by ThaShoka89 and he/she writes that if you get under 10 seconds you get a gold medal which is clearly wrong. It's cheating, yes, but this was clearly an unbalanced mission and I lost patience (I figure I would have gotten it eventually). Nice idea with bumping the buoy, though! I tried bumping the buoys (long before this thread even existed), and I always got a minor damage penalty. And with a damage penalty, forget about getting gold. I'm not saying he's making that up. I tried duplicating your manuevers, and I was able to do it this time without inflicting any damage to the boat, but for the life of me swerving like you did only end up adding time to my total--I couldn't do under 10 seconds whereas if I went straight and stopped, I would generally be at 9.8 seconds or so.
