FreeFall! Help!

suicidal.gif I swear this mission is impossible on the PC - i've tried it like a bazillion times and there is no way to catch up with the jet and fly into the corona and you must go through the corona from the rear. I think Rockstar need to patch this mission bad! its just impossibly hard. dontgetit.gif

Does anyone have a savegame just after this mission or have any hints or tips for beating the PC version of this mission.

Thanks

Yeah it sucks ass, trick is to already to half turning when you are going past the plane, so you can quickly turn around and catch it. You cannot catch it once it is far away from you, i fluked it after 10millionth go.

dont lose hope on that mission mate. it can be done. u can catch the plane if youre a skilled enough pilot. not that im saying anyones not but my point is this mission is bloody frustrating but with practice it can be done.

i had the same trouble with cesar vialpando mission and since i 1st passed it i havent failed since

try flying in the 1st person view. It's easier to get through the corona this way.

1st person view for me too, and what i did was fly slightly left or right so when the jet comes past im already half turning towards it, you can only catch it in the first few moments it passes, once it passes you for a bit then you wont catch up. so its a matter of catching it and turning and getting in that first few seconds.

Which mission is freefall? I beat SA so long ago on PS2 that I don't remember all the mission names? Details?

God I hate these web forums. All that fluff just to load up a send form. Can't they keep this forum simple and just junk all the smileys??

Anyway, the key here is timing. When the target's radar blip starts moving towards the centre of your radar, you need to be ABOVE and slightly to the side of him, say 30%.

Wait until he is just shy of hte centre of the radar - say, half a centimetre - then bank sharply towards him. Once you're level and pointing towards his rear, accelerate and head towards him.

Because you're above him right now, you'll be diving towards him, which will gain you crucial speed and also help with the aiming.

BTW, this sounds difficult but it isn't. Accuracy isn't critical, I haven't got gold in most of my flying school tests.

Heh.. I did the same thing for the same reason. I just increased the thrust a touch (I think from .5 to .8), and after that, it was easy to catch up to the jet naturally.

I wouldn't mind redoing missions over and over again (it's kind of fun), but it's just all the boring leg work you have to do to get back to it: reload game, transition out your hotel, run down plank walkway, run across street, run into casino, run through casino, and finally, drive to the airport. suicidal.gif

Please use the Gameplay forum when asking for this kind of help with the game smile.gif

Hm... i needed exactly two tries to finish the mission.

The first time, of course, i had absolutely no clue what was about to happen, so i were too low and began turning when the plane was already past me. Failed the mission.

The second time i knew it was a jet agains a Dodo, so i flew accordingly: once i was in the air i began a constant ascend until i was way above the target (watch the triangle/square that indicates the target on the little map). When the the target icon began to move more, indicating that the plane was pretty close, i began to turn and finished my turn at the very moment the jet flew past me. All i had to do now was to aim for the corona and gain speed by initiating a dive. Boarded. Shot 'em all. Mission complete.

"When you reach the location, the plane is actually stopped in mid-air. Do a 180 degree turn and fly through the red corona to trigger the cutscene"

that is from a PS2 walkthrough

Did they forget to add the stop part of the PC version? confused.gif

Guys, the stowaway mission is really easy, once i figured out the controls.

You gotta use the arrow keys to press forward onto the bike, and the guy launches at the plane,. Before that full acceleration using w didnt work, you keep pressing the forward key in the arrows and it pushes the bike down to go faster. That is the trick. You should get on the plane after the first 2 lots of the barrels or so

how do you increased the thrust a touch?

yeah, when i got fed up with redoing that shizzle over and over again i actually tried looking for help at some forums, but when no one answered (as always tounge.gif ) i tried it one more time...and i did it..apparently the key is that you should turn FAST and after you are just behind the plane dont press any left right ,a,d,,s whatever, just press w...you'll have just enough speed to reach the corona

PS:However i actually re-did "grove4life" even more times than i re-did that crap smile.gif I still dont know why smile.gif

sh*t man, please some dear moderator could pin my answer: PREDICT and do a 180 just before the plane flies pass you that you sync your positions then you should have no problem catching him from that distance.

im not sure about "no trouble", repetative climbing and diving to get enough speed seems the only way

What?

That is one of the easiest missions. You fly towards the jet, when you see it you make a fast 180 and you slow down a little bit and the jet gets past you and you fly through the corona. Easy as that.

found a guide on how to do it.

Can you post the url to the guide, or just tell us how to do that?

Thanks!

:EDIT:

Nevermind, I figured it out on my own: the file one needs to tweak is named, "handling.cfg" and resides in the game dir under ./data

Just edit it with your fav. text editor and it's pretty self explanatory.

wat do i change

In your .\data folder (located in the directory where you installed SA) there's a handling.cfg file.

- * make a backup of this file before you edit it *

- Open the file in a text editor (notepad)

- Find the entry for the Dodo (it starts with 'DODO')

- I changed the value in de 'Drag' column from 12.5 (if I remember correctly) to 0.1 , but as others pointed out above you can also change the 'Thrust' value to speed up your plane.

You should now be able to catch up to the jet.

- Replace the modified file with the original after you passed the mission (optional)

Hope this helps.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just found out why this mission is easy for some, and undoable for others...The only way I got through this one was to max out my flying skill! When you're an ace pilot, your little dodo is suddenly just that little bit faster than the jet!

To add to this, I also found an easy way to fill out your flying skill...Just get a Shamal jet from the Los Santos airport, and fly around the map for a while (over the water is safest/easiest). The plane is fast, and you'll be an ace pilot in a couple of laps! I was totally stuck at this mission, until I filled out my flying skill.

Good luck, and have fun! tounge.gif

This mission is not that hard. I've done it for lots of guys in Save n' Play.

Use your head!

If you are too far behind the jet, then surely you realise that you need to turn a bit earlier next time?

I turn as soon as I see the jet coming, so I'm actually in front of it. Then I let the jet pass under me, and dive to meet it.

This is an incredibly easy mission for me. Just keep on trying! I had trouble with this mission in the PS2 first as well, but after awhile it was easy as hell.
