Sir Random
Different problem: How do you guys climb to the first corona? I have tried holding W and tapping the climb key, but I can't seem to get high enough without stalling the plane. Any tips? I have no problem doing all the coronas, but I have to do a climbing circle at the start, to get enough height to reach the first corona, so my time is always around 150s
pixelrage
you have to climb slowly, level off, climb slowly, level off, etc. If you just go at a 45 degree angle, it will stall immediately.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing, I guess I just need to be more patient. Thanks.
silentalarm
if you don't hold the throttle, you can go slower and still stay in the air i thought it helped significanty
Sir Random
I wasn't satisfied with the video on the website due to both quality and size. So I made my own of circle the airstrip and land. Enjoy. Incase you don't have the xvid codec(most people do) here is the link Xvid Codec Homepage Anyhow, here is a video of a gold medal for circle the airstrip and land(clockwise) Circle Airstrip and land (Clockwise) Gold Mirror Nice video! I finally figured out why I found it so hard to reach the first corona, I forgot about raising the undercarriage!! I noticed the wheels going up in TheGuy20's video and that was it (after dozens of futile attempts). If you want to really test your flying skills, try reaching the first corona without raising the wheels! I only managed to clip it once, just as I stalled. TheGuy20, I'm wondering how you got that far into the game without increasing your maximum health? I'm at the flying school now, and my health bar is maxed out (about twice the size of yours). Did you use cheats or just drive everywhere? You should sprint around more, the extra health makes some missions a lot easier. Mikazuki
I had a hell of a time with this part of the mission and then I realized that you don't need to press the forward button once you've achieved the right height to pass through the corneas. I went counterclockwise and sped up to the first one. Turned slightly right for the first turn and held the nose up by tapping the nose up button (I mapped the button as my right ctrl). You'll have to press the forward button and nose up button a few times but the circling the corneas is done in a lazy fashion. If you try to go fast you'll miss and crash so lay off the vehicle forward button as much as possible unless you need it. pixelrage
waht the hell is a "corona" anyway? Couldnt they just say "fly through the rings"?
Pyrrus
The two biggest tips I learned from this thead are.. 1) It really is way easier to fly the pc version with a gamepad. I got a Logitech dual action and was able to easily make it though the circle the field missions. I just used the default bindings without changing the keyboard/mouse setup. 2) When flying the helocopter, the camera views are whacked, making it really hard to do the one with the 3 trucks and 2 moving cars. Tap v a couple of times to get the in cockpit view so you are always looking forward and you even get the target reticle. It makes that mission a lot easier. Thanks for the help! oli_86
like i mentioned in the PM and like pyrrus said, i find it much easier to do it in 1st person view because you know exactly where the plane is headed. in 3rd person i only managed to pass, hm, every 3rd-4th time, but with 1st person i havnt failed yet. i dont use the rudders either, they are too slow for this type of maneuvers, just banking is enough. you CAN actually look around with the mouse when flying, I changed it to have it that way because you need the looking way more than the steering with the mouse. just go to controls and there should be something called "Steer with mouse" somewhere, turn it off. belanduku
the PC version does support gamepads (but DON'T select gamepad in config, keep "keyboard & mouse" selected)...try it out! I'm playing the (PC) game with a Microsoft Sidewinder; for walking/shooting I use keys but I did all driving and flying this far with the Sidewinder. Currently I'm doing the airschool missions, I haven't been able to complete the circling airstrip-mission yet, but I do know steering with this gamepad is much more precise and organic-feeling than with keyboard. Unfortunately the delay when steering in flight is the same
maws
I use keyboard, helicopters are easy to fly for me, just practice with it i hold down forward and laucnh it forward, much easier than that dreaded plane. Only thing i hate about the game is the view, i cant bloody move my mouse to look around view like i do in my car, and cant figure out how, same thing with flying, when i fly my mouse automatically starts controlling the plane when i never set it to. this is very annoying when im trying to land the hydra or hellicopter without damaging it. Go into mouse settings under control configuration, and switch 'fly with mouse' off. Then it'll work exactly like the camera on a car.
Llyarra
I have honestly tried this mission 100+ times and been at it for 5 or 6 days and haven't gotten past the third ring yet. My joystick is too responsive and delayed, I have tried switching to mouse flyng and even just keyboard flying to no avail - hurting bad on this one. Just release acceselartion button once hit 1st corona, worked for me very good. Plane got to normal speed and was more stable
