theonegreatprogrammer
Will this game run on Geforce 2 GTS??? Here is my system info: WinXP PRO, AMD Atlon 64 2.0 GHZ, 512 MB RAM, 16x DVD, 32 MB NVIDIA Geforce 2 GTS graphics card
dj4aces
Nope. Minimum specs state you need a 64mb DirectX 9-compatible card or better. This means anything GeForce 3 and better. Also, if I remember correctly, this also means that GeForce MX cards will not work, unless the recent MX 4000 card has changed all that. Also, just to throw this out there, this card is a fantastic deal for the price. It's likely going to be my next card, which will replace my Ti4200. It's not top-of-the-line, but it's also not break-the-bank expensive, and that's what I really like about this card.

Official take two (the game publisher) support FAQ says it works. Apparently rockstar was a bit ambiguious when they stated you needed dx 9 drivers minimum requirments. I guess they didn't mean you needed a dx9 generation card. Anyway, I know ppl with gf4mx (btw you probably meant mx440, there is no mx 4000 card) work and thats just an overclocked gf2. And I've heard from ppl with a gf3 that it works. So it might work, try it. Odds are you will have to run on low detail 16bit color low res though. I have info and links to take two answer in my FAQ: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=195505 Edited June 19, 2005 by Googlesta

theonegreatprogrammer
My Geforce 2 GTS dont have pixle shader support. is pixel shading essential???? or it will run without pixle shader support?
GTA3Freak-2001
It will work but it isn't supported meaning you'll get sub-par performance.
dj4aces
Anyway, I know ppl with gf4mx (btw you probably meant mx440, there is no mx 4000 card) Well, according to this search of hardware on Newegg, there is such a thing as the MX 4000. I knew I wasn't crazy. Regardless if they work or not, I'll bet the game doesn't look or play very well with one. My Ti4200 is more powerful than most (if not all) of those MX 4000s. It will work but it isn't supported meaning you'll get sub-par performance. His post also said his GF2 is only a 32MB card. I have sincere doubts that the game will run. And if it does, it won't run very smoothly, even with all the settings turned all the way down. That's just my take, though. Actually there is a MX 4000 its just some name that some companies have given the latest incarnation of the GeForce 4 MX 400 Series. As for it being 32MB, well my reason stands even more then so much so that you may want to not bother trying.
Rannicus
you can run the game just disable all the visual enhancements but don't expect too much
dj4aces
I think part of what makes the game so great is the visual enhancements. Hell, if I can find my spare Ti4200, I'll give that card away to whoever desprately needs it. All I ask for is the cost of shipping and shipping materials (the box to ship it in, basically.) More info to come if I can ever find the damn thing.

theonegreatprogrammer
my system: AMD Athlon 64-bit 2.0 GHZ, Win Xp Professional SP2, 16x DVD-ROM, 512 MB RAM and everything above the minimum specification (except the video card which is 32 MB GeForce2 GTS ) Hey guys i bought the game, it ran successfully but it slows down if there r too many pedestarians or cars around. and at night the headlights also slow the game down. i thought i might reduce the graphic quality. then the problem is that whenever i click on "Advanced" in "Graphic settings" menu the game simply crashes! so if anyone knows any other way to reduce graphics quality down, then please reply Edited June 22, 2005 by theonegreatprogrammer
GTA3Freak-2001
Oh yes the dreaded, "crash when in advanced graphics". Many people have had this and just looking at topics you'll find what people have tried. Most people seem to never fix it and turn to requesting .set files from others which have the needed settings you want but can't change yourself. There should be a topic in here called just that ".Set file Request Topic" Looking at your specs again, I would highly siggest you upgrade that GFX card as you have a fairly good quality CPU there that is being bottlenecked by your gfx card. And just so you know GTA3Freak means business, there is a totally hardcore link to the .set in my signature. Offered there is a zip of 4 custom .set files and a single file that is generally the lowest possible settings, both were shared by members here.
