If u modded something, that is the problem. Restore your backups. If you downloaded the game, it's worthless. Buy it. If you're system didn't meet requirements it wouldn't open, so try configuring your settings a little. There are other threads for this, I'm sure someone who has started one can point you there. It seems the search function has been disabled here due to the load on the site's bandwidth with the release of SA. But looking at people's sigs often helps. Mine has a link to a tech faq that Googlsta mad as a guide to many of the threads here. It's rather long, but well formatted. Check it out! good luck. Are you running ace mega, nemo, k-lite, etc etc or any other codec packs? And any of the suggestions in the FAQ about crashes are a good thing to try. Like the compat modes. But that' s because I've only experienced that if I tried to change something in vice city and messed it up. Wait a minute, what version of directX 9 do you have installed, gilbarum? Hearing music/sound from intro video and logos but no picture? Yeah that sounds like codec to me. For instance, it happens all the time if you dont have xvid or divx installed, you often hear sound from mp3 encoded soundtracks in movies, but cant see a picture as the video plays. On the other hand if he was able to see the intro video fine, its probably not codec issue. He unfortunately didn't give enough detail to know exactly which point he stops seeing stuff on the screen and only hears music. If it got to the menu before disappearing it could be refresh issue. Overture Posted June 19, 2005 Share Posted June 19, 2005 That is while the game is loading the engine, and you see the few artworks from the game while that repetative music is playing? Never heard of this problem. Virus scanner in the background? Well, if it's the engine, it could be crashing at textures or similar. Have you tried running in 16-bit mode? Try closing some of the programs you're running in the background (MSN, Yahoo, Internet Exploder, et al) and see if this helps. Sometimes there's a conflict between background processes and the foreground process. Hell, yesterday for the first time ever, Cool Edit Pro 2 crashed on me. It's just something that happens. There might be a link or button that says "more info" in your message too. Click that, and also include what's in that message here. ph3n0m Posted June 22, 2005 Share Posted June 22, 2005 I have the same problem only here is what i think caused mine....installed fine and worked first time out, played for about 3 hrs then decided to look for some cheats and these are what i used ( buffmeup = max muscle, hesoyam = money armor health, uzumymw = weapons tier 3) and i had fun with those for awhile...then i saved game and i got a warrning not to so i saved under a new file so i could continue playing normaly and still have my other game when i wanna mess around...next day i jump on to get my bangin on and game starts and gets to the nvidia screen then crashes ( gta_sa.exe has encountered a problem...bla bla bla) since then ive reinstalled 5 times, tried different gta_sa.exe's nocd, crash patch fix.v1.0....with no sucess...ive even completely removed evverything from rockstar in the reg restored my pc back to the day before i installed it and it still gives that error....i have absolutely no idea wtf could cause this...any idea from anyone would be greatly appreciated. xp pro sp2 p4 h/t 3.0 prescott BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 AGP 1gig corsair 3200 Wester digital 120mb Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That is because your C:\PROGRAM FILES\ROCKSTAR GAMES\GTA SAN ANDREAS\MODELS\GTA3.IMG is not working properly. i solved the problem by coping this file from my friend's computer. hope it works for you. Where would one get that file, if none of your friends has the game? Besides it can't be the only solution, cos it sounds so difficult in a way. Oh and I have the exact problem as the original poster, gilbarum. I can see the intro movie and everything is working perfectly within the menu aswell, but when I click the new game button and the bar gets to halfway it stops there. I can hear the music in the background and I can see the loading pictures, but nothing has helped me to get over the halfway point. For clarification, I've done everything that has been mentioned in all the faq files, topics and other helping solution links. Nothing has helped.
