ErR_MaCrO
Have you tried clean booting your PC with MSCONFIG? 1. Start -> Run 2. Type MSCONFIG and click OK 3. Go to the services tab; at the bottom click on 'Hide all microsoft services' then click disable all. 4. Go to the startup tab, click on Disable all. 5. Click on Apply then OK and choose yes to the prompt to restart your PC. 6. When the PC reboots and youre windows user account has loaded; put a check in the box that reads 'don't show this again' then click OK - then try to install the game. If your not familliar with this; you've just disabled all 3rd party services and startup items on your computer - that is to say anything that didn't ship with windows. To restore your PC, just do the reverse. Go back to MSCONFIG, go to the services tab click on 'Enable all' then go to the startup tab and click on 'Enable All' - click on Apply, then OK and choose yes to the prompt to restart your PC. Good luck.
Frosthunter-K
i did all you said, twice and still can't instal the game
Googlesta
Try running the setup file instead of install file. The install file is just a launcher. The setup file actually installs the game.

ErR_MaCrO
Okay; another thought would be to reinstall the Windows Installer/Install Shield.. It may be corrupted. You can download the latest version resleased May 15th from Microsoft here: MIcrosoft Knowledge Base Article 893803 Windows Installer 3.1 (v2) is available Direct link to the download: Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) Remember to renable your services from when you clean booted your system before. However, Microsoft does recommend clean booting your system whenever any game is played (for best results; that is that you certainly don't want a virus scanner running in the background scanning folders when your trying to acheive steady game play - at the same time you don't want to forget to reenable it after your done playing)

ErR_MaCrO
No; mine isn't empty. Both the setup.ini and the install.ini are populated with variables. However, if yours are blank I would recommend checking your DVD for marring or scratches - if thier still empty I would return the DVD to the vendor as defective and get a replacement. The other thing that may work is by creating a flat folder on your C drive by copying the entire contents of the DVD to a folder on your C drive. Example, copy the contents to C:\GTA_SAN_ANDREAS I'm experiencing the freezing problems that most people are reporting. Although, I've just updated the firmware of my DVD drive and that corrected problems with autorun feature of InstallShield from launching when I put the DVD in the drive to play. Frosthunter-K
man, i just asked for the ini file variables btw, i bought the game for ps2 when it came out, i refuse to pay again for the same game. and i imagine that half of the ppl on this boards pc's also "scream pirate", and u dont got anything to do with my desktop in my opinion, rockstar got enought money, even without me paying for the same game twice, so who cares..... and i'm not selecting my disc drive because i got 2 and the other one is behind the window Edited June 18, 2005 by Frosthunter-K

Buy the game and you won't have these problems, it doens't matter if you bought it for PS2 you still don't have a right to get the PC version for free.
