Cactus
Sorry about the double topic, GTAforums had a brainfart while i was trying to post. OK, so i wanted to change the leather biker jacket to look like the punk jacket i have irl (just for kicks really). I exported the TXD from player.img using iRipper (From TocaEdit) Then i used Delfis TXD workshop to export the .bmp, i then altered it in photoshop. The .bmp was then imported back into the TXD file using TXD workshop and then the TXD itself imported into player.img (using "replace" function). The game finishes loading my savegame, but when the screen goes black and gets ready to fade-in the game, i get "Grand theft auto san andreas has encountered a problem etc etc etc..." I also heard copying the image into paint and saving worked, but it didnt. I also tried saving the image as 32bit instead of 24bit because i belive i read TXD workshop sometimes had difficulties supporting 24bit. (not 100% sure if thats correct). I'd just like to be able to change the clothes in the game, and it shouldnt be hard but i cannot fathom it. so again, the tools i used were TXD workshop and iRipper. i DID try ViceTXD and another IMG editor but they both complained about "player.dir" not being found, so i'm guessing they dont fully support san andreas yet? Any help appriciated! thanks in advance. EDIT: still no luck, tools just dont like me TXD workshop - Works great, does everything i want to. iRipper - Works ok. ViceTXD - Opens TXD's but gives me "player.dir" not found error. IMGtool - gives me "player.dir" not found error. IMG (by respawn) - gives me "player.dir" not found error. I'm guessing the ones with the player.dir errors dont support san andreas yet, however i've read people on the boards saying they do... so i dont know why i'm getting problems. I;ve now tried saving the bmp, then opening in paint and pasting into photoshop like suggested elsewhere, didnt work. I also tried using TGA file format instead, and i get the exact same problem. i'm now getting pretty pissed, other people seem to be editing clothes without problems, but i just cant get mine working, the game crashes whenever it tried to load anything modified. EDIT 2: tried it with a couple of other textures, and i get the exact same problem, so its not just an unsupported texture it must be a flaw i'm making somewhere along the line. EDIT 3: Tried using "ultimate san andreas tool" or something along those lines to import the modified txd file back into the .img file, but as always, no cigar. So i'm gonna guess at it being a rpoblem with modifying the texture files rather than it being a problem with one of the tools. I wish some bright spark would come along and point out something obvious that i'm doing wrong Edited June 19, 2005 by Cactus

Cactus
No, but you can change clothing textures, i've seen many up for download.
Meddu
The only thing you have to do is to use ViceTXD 1.5 (the newest)! If there are no alphas in the TXD it should run! Sorry for my bad english Meddu
Cactus
Well i have ViceTXD1.5b installed, but as stated before it gives me an error saying the .dir file for any image i try to open could not be found. Thanks for the help, i guess i'll just have to keep looking though.
Casper
you could use a img tool to extract the txd file you want out. Then use the viceTXD 1.5 to open the txd and then export it to a bmp or tga. When you are done editing the bmp/tga, open the TXD again, use "replace" to replace the old texture with the new edited one. Then close down the program, open the img file find the file you where editing, and point a "replace" to the new TXD you created.
Cactus
Thats what i have been doing I seriously cant fathom it, theres no reason i can see that would give me errors all the time. I cant even think of anything else to try, i'll just keep fiddling i 'spose
changmail
you tried using imgtool 2.0? it opens player.img fine for me. Was there not something in VC where if the files were "read only" you got errors? maybe something like that has happened to your files Ive had the game crash on me to, after editing some .txd maybe we are just unlucky sods
Casper
Yeah, use the img tool. And when you want to replace stuff in the player.img, make it a original player.img, not edited in any way. It works for me, even though when i add more then one texture they seem to overlap on eachother... damn...
satasha
Cactus have you found a solution yet? I am looking to get into texture moding but I don't want to get in too deep if the tools aren't working well yet. changmail
Cactus, when you edited it did you change the alpha? Because im having trouble when ive changed the alpha so that might be whats wrong with yours...
Cactus
Well i've spent most of today fiddling some more, but no joy. IMGtool DOES work however i still end up with the same thing So i am totally stumped, it cant be the tools, as i've used differant tools to do the jobs. Its not the alphas because the textures i'm changing dont have them. It shouldnt be a photoshop problem, as i've pasted from photoshop into a new image in paint and saved as .bmp so photoshop didnt add anything whilst saving (causes problems sometimes) I should be so simple, and other people are having no problems editing! it CAN and HAS been done, i even followed a guide by some guy who has done it, and i still couldnt make it work. And to make things worse, i edited my backup file by accident, so i'm gonna re-install now
[enforcA]
to answer some questions.. the actual version of the txd workshop (TXD Workshop 3.4 BETA 2) works just fine.. also with photoshop images.. the only problem is, if you save a txd with txd workshop, the last lines of the txd code will be missing.. so you'll have to fix the (with txd workshop edited) txd file manually by adding the last missing lines to the txd code.. (the missing lines of code = just empty content that is missing to make the txd work like it should) to do this you have 2 options option number 1: - before you edit a txd file with txd workshop, make sure that you have a copy of the original txd file - after editing the txd file, open it (the edited txd) and the copy (the original txd) with a hex editor like hex workshop - go to the line where the edited txd code ends, now go to exactly the same line in the unedited original txd, you'll see the difference, now select the last lines of the txd code, copy them and insert them into the edited txd file that missed those last lines, save the txd... work done! option number 2: nearly the same as the first option.. the only difference is that you'll fill the missing lines with empty content, until you reach the address where the code of the original txd ends .. option number 2 would be easy as hell to make, with this i mean, Delfi should have no problem with adding a bit of code to the txd workshop that remembers the code length of the unedited original txd file and adds the needed empty content to the edited txd file ---- and to end this.... everything works just fine if you do it in this way... alpha channel, textures, compressed textures, photoshop saved images etc etc etc just everything works with this method but.. i already wrote it here: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=197144 too bad that only one person gave feedback on this
Cactus
got it working! I changed absolutley nothing, just a fresh install. i Think i must have just messed something with the texture up somewhere, because on my first attempt using a fresh install it worked fine! Tis my jacket i own irl Linkage! Just gotta fiddle some more with the stretched parts, shouldnt be a problem! Thanks for everyones help a big thanks to enforcA too, though i had already solved the problem by the time i read you post. Not sure quite how i fixed it, but whatever. and for the record, the 2 tools i ended up using were ViceTXD and iRipper. I'll switch to TXD workshop though once its less easy for me to screw up with it
