gtaspeeder
Hi was having major problems with system reboot etc SO updated all the drivers eg NFORCE audio/unified and ATI 5.6 drivers from their websites game works fine now no sound or graphic problems BUT still have random freezing sometimes after an hour / 20 minutes / etc freezing time is random tried both VPU recover on/off etc every time I load up the game I get in admin tools / event viewer / system game is retail original copy Event Type: Warning Event Source: ati2mtag ------ "THIS MUST BE ATI RELATED ?!" Event Category: DVD_OV Event ID: 62470 Date: 18/06/2005 Time: 16:04:38 User: N/A Computer: JONNY1 Description: Invalid pixel format Data: 0000: 00 00 00 00 01 00 5a 00 ......Z. 0008: 3d 00 00 00 06 f4 00 80 =....ô.€ 0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ 0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ 0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ does this help any pc techs out there with a solution . I have tried all methods on this forum and am convinced it is a memory leak from the game or ATI need to upgrade their drivers. Other than this the game runs flawlessly except for the random freeze when driving around or entering my house it's plain weirdo specs RADEON SAPPHIRE 128MB 9800 PRO ATHLON XP 2600 nforce2 onboard sound a7n8x deluxe 1 GB CORSAIR DDR XMS TWINAX MEMORY XP PROFESSIONAL SP1 Edited June 18, 2005 by gtaspeeder
CarWreck
I am running same computer and video card as you and have no problems. Only difference I wonder about is I am using the Omega drivers. Maybe you should give them a try.
AuronX
I have the same error-message and tried omega drivers, I even re-installed XP! Nothing worked! And I get this message always!
Mike0
Try Catalyst 4,9. Some dude sent an email about the Radeon 9200 graphics peds glitch and they told him to try 4,9 CATs until they solve the prob. Give them a try, or the Omega ones.
DarkLoki
I have exactly the same message in my logs. I will try catalyst 4.9.
AuronX
Well, I just trayed 4.9 Catalyst Drivers, but no changings! The game freezes when I step into cars and when I enter any shop, too! I forget to mention that I have a 9600XT, but it seems that we have similar problems! And it sucks!
Rage18
changing drivers will do nothing. I beleive ati2mtag is the miniport driver that handles hardware functions. You should mail ATI about this one. Try turning fast writes off Edit: I have heard that this can be heat related Edited July 3, 2005 by Rage18
AuronX
Will try so, thx. But heat related? Are you sure? I don't know what a normal temparature is for GPU, but mine is currently 35°C and I guess that is not too hot. And besides, it only crashes when I enter cars or buildings, so the problem is situation related!
AuronX
I send an E-Mail to Sapphire because my gfx-card is from sapphire. Besides the ATI-Support service is s**t! When I get an answer I tell ya!

And besides, it only crashes when I enter cars or buildings, so the problem is situation related! Not just GPU heat but CPU/board heat can effect it aswell. I want to say its some sort of hardware conflict based on the file but it could be software. Disabling fast writes is your best bet for that unless you have some fairly old board. I had to get rid of my old MSI board because the 9500 pro wasnt compatible with it. Fast writes do nothing for moderen video cards/boards and in most cases just cause problems EDIT: Make sure you disable fast writes in the BIOS or it may get turned back on by the drivers. Ive had that happen before. Edited July 3, 2005 by Rage18
westsidebud
I noticed that exact same message in my event viewer a while a ago.. the message *seems to be at the same time as when gta sa locks up on me and vpu recover resets my card. And i think i remember the error message with a previous game before, cant remember what one though. I always use the newest drivers asap. and have gone through the official 4.9 and am now using the omega 4.9. I never OC my card and always have fast writes off. I googled this error message about a week a ago and could see other people complaining about this message. What i would like to know is if anyone running the same hardware as those of us with the error message have had NO crashes/event viewer messages ? I'm Using the following, (my hardware is all fairly new and clean) Runnin a 80mm cpu fan and heatsink both made of metal. + two 80mm Case fans. 500 watt Powertek "Dual 80mm Fans" PSU Gigabyte GA-7VAXP Motherboard (Via KT400A Chipset w/Fan) Amd Athlon XP Barton 2800+ (Cpu @ 333 sync with ram @ 333) 256mb PC3200 Samsund DDR (x2) Ati Radeon 9600 Pro (w/DX9c & Omega's Cat. 4.9) 21 inch Sony Trinitron Monitor (default generic ms driver) Creative Soundblaster Audigy LS (official up to date drv's) 120 gig WD1200JB Drive edited my post a bit and added software below. AuronX
I receivded an answer from Sapphire and they told me that this ati2mtag or whatever it is called is a program that controlles the low-level graphics, such as 2D stuff. They solutions they gave is to check, whether it is a virus or to reinstall the entire ati-sh*t! So no progress at all, I'd say!

Gazmaz
Hi came across this forum as I am also getting the ati error at log in.. And various games are freezing at various stages of game play, have tried lots of fixes but this is the only one left to illiminate. My spec not fantastic but different so similar error across formats CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1900+ MOBO: A7V600-X Mem: MICRON 3200 SDRAM 2gb Vid: ATI Radeon 9600XT Have tried the 4Xagp but this only works on the simpler games that my kids play, and even then the games stutter! Have tried to contact ATI but their response was less than useless. Any other ideas appreciated...
